July Photo A Day Challenge: Let’s get this photo-taking party started…

July Photo A Day Challenge List

It’s time. We’re officially into the second half of the year and it’s time to tackle a brand-spanking new list. Are you ready for a bit of a challenge.

All the details you need are below. Happy photo-taking. x

How to play!

Playing along with photo a day is super easy:
Check out the July photo a day list.
Each day look at the daily prompt and take a photo according to whatever the prompt is. For example for day 1 the prompt is ‘Happiness is..’ so share anything that represents happiness to you. It could be a quiet coffee in the morning, doing a job you love, cuddles from someone in your life or something else.
Once you’ve taken the photo it’s time to share it. There are loads of places you can share it. See below for more details.
Check out other people’s photos. You can browse through them on my Facebook page, in the FMS Photo A Day Facebook group. Or on Instagram or Twitter just search for the #FMSphotoaday hashtag to see them all.

Where to play?

There are loads of places to be social and share your photos with the #FMSphotoaday community:

Instagram: Just upload your photo, use a fancy filter, add a caption and the hashtag #FMSphotoaday and then share.
Facebook: There are a few options here. You can simply share on your own personal page, among your own friends. Or you can upload to my page’s wall, or I’ve created a Facebook group for 2013. You can join it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/FMSphotoaday/ Now that Facebook has hashtags, simply add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday when you share your photos and you’ll be able to see which of your friends are playing along too. It’s cool!
Blog: If you have a blog, you could share each day or do a wrap up of all the photos at the end of the month.
Tumblr: Add your daily photos to your Tumblr feed.
Flickr: You can get their app and share your photos there, or upload on their web version. We also have a photo a day group here.
Twitter: You can share on Twitter by uploading the photo and sharing the hashtag #FMSphotoaday. Easy.

How do I remember the prompts?

There are a few ways you can grab the list or remember the prompts:
Come back here each day and click the button on the right-hand side to check out the list.
Right-click on the list above and save it to your desktop. Or if you’re on your phone you could take a screenshot and save it as your wallpaper. {To screenshot click the power button and home button at the same time}.
The lovely Doug has created prompts for us that we can download straight into our calendar, so we won’t forget.

What’s the fab four?

Each day I’ll be picking four photos on each Instagram and Facebook that have caught my attention, and sharing them to my Facebook and Instagram. To have your photos in the running you can just share them to my Facebook page or the FMS Photo A Day group or the #FMSphotoaday Instagram feed, or both. It’s not a competition – just a fun way to put the spotlight on some photos from the community.

Please note: As I’m expecting my baby in August, July will be the last month that I do Fab Four as I’ll be busy with a little bundle. I’ll let you know when it will return.

What do the prompts mean?

There are no rules when playing along with photo a day, you can be creative as you like! Interpret the prompt as you please. For those that need a little help, some more suggested details about each prompt are below:

1. Happiness is…: Share a photo of something that represents happiness to you.
2. Shoes: You know, those things you wear on your feet.
3. Cold: In my part of the world it’s winter, so cold is all around. How can you show the cold in a photo?
4. Red, white or blue: Pick a colour and share it for Independence Day {in the USA}.
5. Love: Take a photo that shows love.
6. Fave smell: What smell do you adore? Coffee? Fresh fruit? Flowers? Show it in a photo.
7. Where you are: Show us where you went today.
8. Path: Snap a photo of a path – which could be any kind of surface.
9. 3 things: Take a photo of any 3 things you like.
10. Smooth: Find a smooth surface and take a photo.
11. I wore this!: What is something you wore today? You could share your whole outfit, or just a small part of it.
12. A bad habit: It can be yours or someone else’s habit. Share it.
13. 4 o’clock: Be it 4am or 4pm, share what you’re doing at 4 o’clock.
14. Edible: Take a photo of some that you eat or want to eat.
15. Outside the window: Look through the window and take a photo of what you see.
16. Bottle: A bottle is such a simple object, how can you show it in a photo and make it a little interesting?
17. Inspirational: What’s inspirational to you?
18. Number: Look around you, do you see numbers? Take a photo. They could be in signs, on your phone… anywhere.
19. Building: It could be your home, or a big sky-scraper if you’re lucky enough to be in the city. Share a building in a photo.
20. Hot: Just like the cold prompt, only hot. Will you take a photo of the weather, food, a flame?
21. Fave food: What food do you love? You can indulge today. I’ll let you!
22. Grey: Share a photo of something coloured grey.
23. I drew this!: Get creative! Draw something, take a photo and share it.
24. D is for…: Show a photo of something starting with the letter D.
25. Ground: Depending on where we live we have different surfaces on the ground; cement, grass, dirt… show us yours.
26. The everyday: The thing that I love about this challenge is that you can see beauty in the ordinary, so look around you, find something that you see most days and capture it in a photo.
27. Black + white: Take a photo in black + white – you could use a filter, or shoot something that actually IS black and white. Up to you!
28. This is new!: What’s something new in your life? Is it something newly created in your town? A new purchase? A new baby? Snap and share it.
29. Perspective: This is a photography technique. I’ll share how to shoot perspective in a blog post soon!
30. Friendship: This is our charity prompt. Share a photo of friendship.
31. Workspace: Show us your workspace!

Charity & reader prompts:

Our charity prompt this month is the International Day of Friendship.
This month we’ll be bringing awareness to the International Day of Friendship. The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. You can read more about the movement here.

The reader prompts this month have been suggested by:
Happiness is… – Danielle D
Outside the window – Bec P

Thank you everyone!

  1. I think I’m going to join in!!! I did one ages ago on my tumblr account, and realize now it might have been from your blog. I found the source! YES! See ya on instagram ^-^

  2. What exactly do you mean with workspace? Where I work (meaning the work that brings in money)? My home office/computer space/desktop?
I planned to join last month but then never did it. I’m in this month since now my photo blog is up and running where I want it.

    • Its up to your interpretation. It might be where you make dinner, where you do out of home work, or your office at home.

I wanted everyone to be able to do it – whether they worked, were at school or were a stay at home mum. 🙂
