Five online courses to better your blogging skills

Five online courses to better your blogging skillsHello Blogger.

I want to always be one of those people that wants to keep learning, and I encourage others to do the same. I love discovering new things and letting them soak into my brain. I’m sure if I ever attended University I’d probably still be there learning things. Actually, strike that. I’m not that into learning.

With blogging I love reading, and asking questions, and doing online and in-person courses. The landscape of blogging will always be changing, and I think it’s important to not get stuck and to keep on being open to learning new things and changing the way you do things.

Today I wanted to put together a list of courses that you can do to keep on learning. These courses are available online, so that you can do them from where ever you are. Some I have done myself, some I haven’t {if you have, please let me know in the comments what you thought of it}.

blog-shopBlogShop At Home // US$297.67

I did this one last month and I can not even begin to say how brilliant it is. But I’ll try… it’s REALLY super, so very brilliant. It’s more about creating graphics, tweaking your photos and making things beautiful. I put off doing this course for a while, and I actually don’t know why. I wish I’d done it sooner. You will need Photoshop to do the course, but you don’t need to even really know how to use it.

The only downfall for me was that once you start watching it you only have 48 hours to finish the course, and I would have LOVED to have gone through it twice to really make it all stick in my brain. To make the most of your investment, I would say you should own a Wacom Tablet to use for your graphics {every blogger should have one anyway! I have this one, and it’s perfect for my needs} and 48 hours of nothing to just immerse yourself in the course. Really, truly worth doing. Read more about it here.

blogger-boss

Blogger Boss // AU$399

A lot of course focus on the blogging side of things: content, social media and everything that goes with writing a blog, but very little focus on the technical side. Doing that stuff yourself, without knowing that you’re doing, can be a dangerous adventure and paying someone to constantly tweak things can be quite an expensive ride. Blogger Boss focuses on the technical side and teaching you how to do those tricky things. I haven’t done this course, but I sure am thinking about it. Read more about it here.

cant-crop-thisCan’t Crop This // US$85

If you are feeling a bit stuck with Instagram and want to know how to build your brand {yep, you’re a brand if you’re a blogger} and grow your audience, this is a course for you. I have purchased the course, but haven’t had time to do it yet… but it looks good. I love everything Studio DIY does, so I’m sure I’m going to love this too. Read more about it here.

bloggers-MBA

Bloggers MBA // AU$497

If you want to know all the juicy secrets to growing blogging into a serious business, then this is the course for you. You’ll be given tools to make blogging happen for you, plus access to a supportive and encouraging community. Read more about it here.

bloghearted

Bright-eyed & Blog-hearted // AU$397

If you like to do things with heart and soul, then this is the blog course for you. Rachel is the most beautiful person, and I haven’t done this course, but I just know that she would put her all into it, and then a bit more. Everyone I know who has done this has loved it. Read more about it here.

  1. Clever Cookie and Secret Bloggers Business were the best investments I ever made for my blog! Thanks for sharing this list, and thanks for putting together such an awesome course with Clever Cookie! I am saving to do Rachel’s course x

  2. I wish I had a never ending money pot so I could do all of these! Clever Cookie was the best thing I ever did for my blog, not just in terms of what I learned, but the awesome people I met. I loved it so much. I haven’t done any other online courses but I can highly recommend Little Blog Big with Carly from Smaggle and Christina from Hair Romance for some face to face learning. I’ve found that the thing about blogging is that there is always something new to learn!

  3. I’ve been seriously eyeing off Elite Bloggers Academy but it’s closed for 2015 so I have to wait until next year. I’ve invested in a ProBlogger ticket this year so not sure if I can stretch the budget to include another course but Secret Bloggers’ Business keeps popping up and I’ve only heard good things about it… I wish I could do them all!!

    • I paid for the Elite Bloggers Academy and didn’t get the time to do it – KICKING MYSELF. A friend tells me it was more so aimed at US bloggers.

I think there’s a fine line between learning and learning too much that it becomes overwhelming. Just an FYI. Forgot to write that in the post. xx

  4. Awesome wrap Chantelle! I’ve been eye-ing off blogger boss and really want to do it because the technical stuff is such a challenge for me, but I’m so time poor just not sure how to squeeze it in. Clever cookie was Ah-mazing. I wouldn’t even have a blog or a facebook page or the awesome bloggy friendships and support network I have if it wasn’t for CC! Life changing! Little blog big workshop with Carly from Smaggle and Christina from Hair Romance was also uber inspiring with lots of practical tips and hints. Xx

  5. Clever Cookie was amazing for me. I feel like it totally gave me the kick up the bum to take it seriously and be committed to my blog. I learnt so much but the community has been really invaluable!

I signed up to Elite Blog Academy and have done the first 2 or 3 modules but then I got pregnant and exhausted so I’ve parked it for the time being. It’s lifetime access which is really nice, so I’ll come back to it when I get to it, but it’s very American centric.

I’m also doing Ready Set Blog by Secret Bloggers Business, which I love. The challenges are great, it’s spaced out in a way to help you tackle one area at a time instead of doing it all at once and the community in the Facebook group are really helpful and collaborative and the community is a great way to get new followers on social media and find some great new blogs.

I thought about doing Blogger Boss but I’ve got a fairly decent grasp of CSS and how to run the backend of things so I’m not sure I’d get my moneys worth.

I love learning and it’s been really helpful to learn more about blogging and how to take it to the next level. It’s also been great to have different teachers who have different backgrounds and different perspectives on things. Blogging is such a diverse field so I’ve loved the diversity of information I’ve gotten through these courses.

  6. I’m currently doing Secret Blogger Business MBA & loving it. So much great info & resources. I’d love to do the upcoming blog to boss course but a bit far out of my price range for now.

  7. I did Blog With Pip, which I really enjoyed, and the private Facebook group which she set up is still a source of inspiration and support! I’m hopeless with the techie side of things, so that is the the next skillset I’m hoping to hone. I had hoped to go to problogger, but sadly it didn’t fit in with hubby’s work commitments. Maybe next time. 🙂

  8. Currently in the Secret Bloggers Business MBA and find the facebook group so helpful. Brings a lot of extra advice/opinion from others in the same position!

  9. I have done the Bright-eyed & Blog-hearted course and it is fantastic. Such a supportive community of women around you.

  10. I would love to do your clever cookie class. I almost signed up last time but my finances were a bit tight. I have put some money aside for it, so I’m waiting now for the next one – which I REALLY hope you do :))
