December Photo A Day: Let’s have some fun! #FMSphotoaday

December photo a day list! #FMSphotoaday

It’s time to end the year with a whole lot of photo-taking fun. Yes, it’s going to be busy with all the craziness that the end of year brings… but think of all the brilliant photo-taking opportunities. Oh yes! So get out your phone/camera and get ready to start snapping photos. Everyone is welcome to play, so check out the details below and if I’ve missed anything, or you have any questions at all – just leave them in the comments below and I’ll get back to you.

How to play!

Playing along with photo a day is super easy:
♥ Check out the December photo a day list.
♥ Each day look at the daily prompt and take a photo according to whatever the prompt is. For example for day 1 the prompt is 8 o’clock. So, take a photo of whatever you’re doing at 8am or 8pm. It’s a great way to see what everyone is doing at that time, where ever they are in the world.
♥ Once you’ve taken the photo it’s time to share it. There are loads of places you can share it: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, Tumblr, Pinterest, Flickr or where ever you like to play online. On Facebook you can share on your personal page and on my Facebook page {just upload it to my wall}. If you’re playing on Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest – add the hashtag #FMSphotoaday.
♥ Check out other people’s photos. You can browse through them on my Facebook page. Or on Instagram or Twitter just search for the #FMSphotoaday hashtag to see them all.

How do I remember the prompts?

There are a few ways you can grab the list or remember the prompts:
♥ Come back here each day and click the button on the right-hand side to check out the list.
♥ Right-click on the list above and save it to your desktop. Or if you’re on your phone you could take a screenshot and save it as your wallpaper. {To screenshot click the power button and home button at the same time}.
♥ The very fabulous Doug has created a calendar for us. You can have the prompts added to your phone’s calendar by clicking here. It will open your calendar program and ask if you want to add the calendar. This works on iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Mac and PC. Alternatively you can view the calendar online in your browser here.

What’s the fab four?

Each day I’ll be picking my favourite four on Instagram and Facebook, and sharing them to my Facebook and Instagram. To have your photos in the running you can just share them to my Facebook page or the #FMSphotoaday Instagram feed, or both.

What do the prompts mean?

There are no rules when playing along with photo a day, you can be creative as you like! Interpret the prompt as you please. For those that need a little help, some more details about each prompt are below:

1. 8 o’clock: Take a photo at whatever you’re doing at 8am or 8pm.
2. Peace: What does peace look like for you? Or take a photo of a peace sign.
3. Something you held: a child, your phone, a gift, a shopping bag – anything!
4. Black + white: Use a black + white filter on a photo of your choice, or take a photo of something black and white.
5. Looking up: Get down on the ground and take a photo from down low, looking up.
6. From where you live/your country: Take a photo of something from your country – a flag, something unique, a traditional dish, or something a little bit more common.
7. Stars: Take a photo of the stars at night, or stars you see around the place during the day.
8. Someone you love: At this time of year we’re often catching up with loved ones. Take a photo of someone you love. If you’re not seeing a loved one today – take a photo of a photo – or get creative.
9. Out + about: Whatever you do today, take a photo while you’re doing it.
10. Under: Take a photo of something {anything!} under something.
11. Sweet: Take a photo of something sweet {food or not!}
12. Hat: Take a photo of a hat. If it’s cold – perhaps a beanie. If it’s hot, perhaps a sun hat.
13. Lights: Take a photo of some lights at night.
14. Something green: Find something green in your travels today and take a photo to share.
15. Outdoors: Get outside and snap something outside.
16. Something you made: Perhaps it’s just some toast, or something more extravagant. Shoot it.
17. On the floor: Look down and shoot something on the ground.
18. Makes you feel merry: What’s making you happy today? Shoot it.
19. Something beginning with ‘s’: Find something beginning with S and shoot it.
20. Weather: In some parts of the world it will be snowing, in others it will be REALLY hot. Share a photo that represents the weather where you are.
21. Tree: Take a photo of a tree {yes, we did this last month – but try and be creative!}
22. Decoration: It could be Christmas related, or a decoration in your home.
23. Joy is______: What makes your filled with joy? Take a photo.
24. Tradition/something you always do: What’s something you always do? A family tradition?
25. Lunchtime: If you celebrate Christmas – take a photo of what you’re doing at lunchtime {traveling, partying, opening gifts, laughing, drinking}. If you don’t celebrate Christmas – share what you did at lunchtime.
26. Mess: Take a photo of a mess. Or a lack of one if you’re that way inclined.
27. How you relax: How do you like to chill out? Read a book, lay on the beach? Take a photo.
28. Cold: Take a photo of something cold.
29. Hot: Take a photo of something hot.
30. Something that made you smile this year: Reflect on the year gone by and find something made you smile.
31. Self-portrait: Take your last selfie for the year. If you’re partying, take a photo with friends. If you’re having a quiet night in, take a photo of what you’re doing. Self-portraits don’t have to be obvious. I like very abstract ones – feet are an easy way to take a photo of yourself.

Thank you to everyone that has joined me in playing this fun game in 2012. I will write a proper post later in the month, but seriously – thank you!

  1. Hello! Hope you won’t mind too terribly, but I’m going to have to subscribe to your RSS and play along because this looks like a lot of fun! • Hey Danya.

Leigh on Facebook said she did this. Are you able to try it too?

I got a blank screen as well on my iPhone bit the clicked on the square with the arrow in it on the bottom right and the clicked the open in safari option. The followed the prompts and all good. It’s in my calendar. Hope this helps.

  2. Thank you for the calendar option! If you have Google Calendar, you can subscribe to the feed you’ve created and it populates on all the calendars that are connected to the Google account. THANK YOU!!!! You just made my December photo taking so much easier.

  3. Looking forward to another month! A friend shared your challenge in April and I finally started in May. Will this be the last list of the year? Thank you so much for all of your work in creating the prompts. I enjoy your blog, as well. Cheers!

  4. Looking forward to another month with you!! I can’t believe I’ve been playing along since June!!!!! I’ll be posting my photos on Flickr at wendy0112. : )

  5. Hi Chantelle – lovely to “meet” you – wish I had found you back in January, but better late than never! Im going to tag along this month, thanks for the inspiration!

  6. Thanks so much for the photo challenges. I am having so much fun doing these. Love the calendar option. Hope you are going to do this in 2013. Thanks again

  7. I have a quick question, so I posted on fb yesterday and today and I don’t see my posts, I reposted yesterdays again today as well because of this. Is there something I should know? I’d like to play along, I also do a blog but this is separate from my P365 on my blog. Thanks.

  8. Are you going to do this photo-a-day-challenge next year, too? It’s really cool, but it’s a pity: today I just found it :/

  9. hi. its a lil more than 6 months that im doing the #fmsphotoaday challenge and i love it, dont get me wrong, BUT is getting very repetitive.. e.g. tree, 8 o clock.. 6 o and i think theres tons of things to explore.. so heres a constructive critique: why in 2013 u dont change things a bit and accept submissions for new themes? otherwise lots of ppl will drop it, cause its same old, same old… xoxo
