13 Books To Put On Your Must-Read List

I feel so completely guilty for saying this, but it’s been so long since I’ve read a book properly. I think it was last year, but I read so much online that I forget about reading proper books. IT’S NOT GOOD. I love books. My girls have beautiful bookcases filled with them, and I love how much they love stories, and having me read to them. And I still think the smell of a new book is one of the best smells ever. Don’t you agree?

I’ve promised myself that I will be grabbing a new book this month and to start reading it. I asked my friends over on my Facebook page which book they loved and would recommend, and the books below kept coming up over and over again.

Not That Kind Of Girl : Lena Dunham
Read it to: read about all the lessons that Lena has learned as a young woman. You know, falling in love, feeling alone, being overweight despite eating only health food, having to prove yourself to a room full of men twice your age, finding true love, and more.

First, We Make The Beast Beautiful : Sarah Wilson
Read it to: feel less alone about your anxiety, but also see how Sarah can brilliantly reframe anxiety and change the way you think about it.

See What I Have Done : Sarah Schmidt
Read it to: get knee deep in the true story about a murder that happened in 1892.

Saving CeeCee Honeycutt : Beth Hoffman
Read it to: get lost in a story that will make you laugh, and want to finish it in one sitting.

The Life-changing Magic Of Not Giving A F**K : Sarah Knight
Read it to: let go of your perfectionist ways, and to stop… caring so much about stuff that shouldn’t be cared about.

The Light Between Oceans : M. L. Stedman
Read it to: get taken on a beautiful love story, with a little twist that might just break you heart a little. {get tissues ready}

The Witness : Nora Roberts
Read it to: get lost in the twists and turns of this #1 New York Times best-selling author.

What I Know For Sure : Oprah Winfrey
Read it to: be inspired and have a few light-bulb moments.

Big Little Lies : Liane Moriarty
Read it to: see what everyone is talking about in the super popular new TV series.

The Signature Of All Things : Elizabeth Gilbert
Read it to: feel enlightened, and be taken on a beautiful journey with the words of the super talented Elizabeth.

The Barefoot Investor : Scott Pape
Read it to: discover practical ways to make your money work better, and change the way you look at your finances.

Lion : Saroo Brierley
Read it to: discover a true story that shows triumph and survival despite not-so-great odds.

The Bronze Horseman : Paullina Simons
Read it to: be transported through tales of love, war and Russia.

  1. What a great list! I’ve got Liane Moriaty’s The Husband’s Secret and Lion to read while I’m away and coincidentally I just ordered The Barefoot Investor yesterday, I’ve heard such great things about it! I’ve always loved reading but in recent years haven’t made enough time for it. The last year or so, hubby and I have had reading time before bed, it’s a great way to make time for books and relax before going to sleep.

  2. I’ve heard Oprah’s book via CD (I like listening in the car). I actually read Big Little Lies to see what everyone was talking about and it was good but about 100 pages too long (she certainly knows primary schools and their communities let me tell you!!!!) and I am now half way through a book I thought I wouldnt find ok but I am and that is Sarah Wilson’s book on anxiety. I am not an IQS fan of hers at all but this book presents her in the most revealing and honest way and so for that reason alone, it is good!!

  3. The Bronze Horseman is my fave ever!!!! And I love Liane Moriaty, I just now bought Mia Freedman’s Work Strife Balance, can not wait to get stuck into this one. I am currently reading The Goldfinch, whilst I am enjoying it it is taking forever to read and I’m only at 37% (I have a kindle). I will push through though I am not one to start a book and never finish. x

  4. I have read quite a lot of those on the list and my suggestion was the Barefoot Investor. I am currently working though Fight Like A Girl by Clementine Ford.

  5. Have read a few of these and highly recommend doing the Oprah one as an audio book as its narrated by Oprah herself and its like she’s talking just to you. Will add the others to my goodreads shelf to read in the future.

  6. I love the look of those books! I read on average a book every 2 days, BUT they are all light fluffy (erotic romance type) easy reading, with very little thought needed to devour. I must put a plug in for Kristen Ashley- her book “Rock Chick” is my bible- overtime I need motivation, to laugh out loud, or feel closer to the sisterhood I read that one- it is a romance, but with drama, action and humour rolled into one awesome package

  7. I read mostly historical novels and one of my favourites is Monuments Men by Robert Edsel. Be careful not to read the movie tie-in version though. I think it’s a must for anyone that enjoys history!!

  8. I recently finished ” She means business” by Carrie Green – non-fiction about getting your business idea started. Absolutely loved it.. at the moment I am reading “5 Second Rule” by Mel Robbins. Doing a bit of self-development at the moment. Best wishes from Mackay!
