Warning: These photos may make your ovaries explode. And if you don’t have ovaries, you might well grow some.
On the night my waters broke I briefly met a midwife named Rana. She was gentle, and loving with a contagious smile that you can’t help but smile in return.
The day after Luella was born I had a message on Facebook {from Rana} asking if I’d like some photos taken. I said yes.
You know what makes sense? A midwife-come-newborn-photographer. I’ve never really thought about how they get babies to sleep, and how they get them into the perfect little positions. I’ve never thought about it all. But if you’ve ever had a newborn, you may well know they’re not always easy. So, when Luella was 6 days old I watched as Rana gently, and so lovingly took photos of Luella. She knew how to hold her, move her, put her to sleep, when she’d had enough and when she could get a little bit more from her. She even knew not to freak out when Luella pooped in the perfect lace pants she’d just made that morning.
If you’re friends with me on Facebook, you’ve probably seen most of these. I’ve been pretty enthusiastic about them! And now I’m sharing here too. Thank you again Rana. You are magic. xx
If you’re on the Gold Coast you should definitely check out Rana. Her website is here.

Rana is an amazing photographer! She has been a friend of mine for a while but over the last 12 months she has captured every special moment for me! She photographed my wedding, my pregnancy, my birth and newborn photos of my long awaited IVF baby! I feel so grateful to have met her and believe her talent makes people truly happy! What a better way to remember special times in your life than to capture them on camera! I love you Rana!
