Tumble.

Last Friday we went to the zoo. It was me, the kids and Hubby. We went early, to avoid the crowds, and it paid off. When we were leaving the line to get in was nothing short of massive.

There is a new little addition to the elephant enclosure, a cute little elephant who I call Tumble. He is so small, and so sweet.

When we arrived he was having a feed (breastfeed) and his parents were very protective of him. After a few moments they let him explore within their reach, as us parents do too. We want our little ones to experience the world, whilst we keep a watchful eye over them.

Tumble clambered up some little rocks, and because he’s not completely confident on his feet he took a tumble. It wasn’t far enough to hurt… but the way his parents ran to be by his side was just so sweet. It’s so like us humans. They then made sure he stayed by their side, in such a protective manner.

I often feel sorry for the animals at the zoo, I know they’re not there purely for our entertainment value. It’s nice to know the zoo is trying to help with conservation and breeding programs too. It’s not just about animals being in confined spaces for us to look at.

  1. Your photo has just got me even more excited for my birthday! I cannot wait. I love zoos and have convinced my boyfriend to take me for my birthday this year. *grins*

    xx

  2. elephants are very very interesting creatures! when they know they are going to die, they retreat by the water to do it apparently. And they mourn the death of other elephants. so human like.

  3. I LOVE baby animals. More than human ones, I'm afraid. I always want to grab them and watch them run on their little legs. The footage on telly of Tumble made me want to buy a plane ticket.
