Top 5: Outfits I hope Santa leaves under the Christmas tree for me

Have you ever heard of that great little gift giving rule? I think it’s for kids, but I think it works for just about anyone:

Give something they want
Give something they need
Give something to wear
And something to read

I think it’s such a great rule. We don’t go overboard at Christmas, but Lacey will have each of the above. Growing up we always had something new to wear on Christmas Day. It was never anything fancy, just something to wear on the day. So it’s something I’ve always done for myself growing up – making sure I have something new {or newish} to wear on the day.

Here are five of my favourite potential Christmas Day dresses:

Starting from far left, going clockwise: ASOS blue dress, City Chic black lace dress, City Chic blue cover-up, Annalisa peacock kaftan and City Chic black beaded dress.

Do you have ‘rules’ when it comes to buying Christmas gifts? And what will you be wearing on Christmas Day?

  1. LOVE that ASOS dress! Looks pretty and comfy too – a difficult combo to find! <3

Santa brings the most gifts and we usually give the kids just a little. My oldest, who is 11, is "in the know" now about Christmas, so she barely asked for anything, as she feels guilty asking us now! Guess that is a good thing though. 🙂 With her now we can take toys, clothes, food, etc to those in need which is a wonderful thing- as she now gets the true meaning of Christmas. Love that each phase in childhood and teenage-hood is wonderful for different reasons.

  2. Love the ASOS dress as well. Yummy. No kids for Christmas this year so depending on the weather, sweatpants and slippers. As far as gift-giving goes…a few clothes, some fun things and books. Always books.

  3. I hadn’t heard of that rule, but luckily it’s something I usually do anyway. The dress on the far left is my favourite. Just gorgeous!

  4. We do those rules for the kids at christmas…makes life easier, and cuts down on the junk!!
Love the asos blue dress as well!

  5. I am so behind this christmas – haven’t even started shopping for family 🙂 Yet I know that the day will perfect…spending it with family. This year we are about experiences rather than gifts. What a great tradition – having something new to wear for the day. Our boys normally get clothes for a gift because they grow so fast!

  6. I was eyeing off that ASOS dress the other day! Perfect for summer with the light sleeves.

I’m in Darwin for Christmas and brought with me a black skirt and peplum top.. With all this humidity I think I’ll have to have my hair up in a top knot!

  7. I just wrapped my little ones gifts for her first Christmas and most of them are clothes and books. Phew! Two rules covered there. And a pool and iPad case so I think it’s covered.
With adults I like to give something they need but also reflects my quirkiness. The the wrapping! That’s a gift in its own right 😀

  8. In Iceland, the tradition says that the kids (and possibly their parents as well) would be eaten by the big, scary Jólakötturin, the Yule Cat, if they didn’t have at least one piece of new garment for Christmas. Apparently this was to make sure people were eager enough to finish the Autumn chores such as finishing the wool etc. So they had to have at least a pair of new socks to avoid becoming cats food. 🙂

  9. I always wear Christmas colours! But I like the idea of opening a gift on Christmas Eve, and on it would be a little treasure and some new PJs. That’s a nice tradition, I think! I always need pajamas and it would make the morning photos a little nicer!

  10. Love using the “Christmas outfit” as justification to buy a new dress. I ummed and ahhed over that asos dress but in the black. I ended up buying a gorgeous black dress from Piper woman with fancy shoulders and a neon yellow belt. Now I think i may need some matching shoes though!!!
i do love that little rhyme although I fear with a little bit here and a little bit there Sadie may have those all crossed off x 10 and I also added something to creative to the must haves.

  11. I love that peacock kakftan! I am like you, I must buy something new to wear on Christmas Day, and as Boxing Day is my birthday, I have also bought something new for this birthday too! I very rarely buy clothes, since shopping with two little ones is a complete and utter nightmare, but I am pretty excited about what I’ve bought for this silly season. Clothes that I wouldn’t normally wear: long tunic type things that I will wear with leggings because I can not find any nice slim leg 3/4 pants anywhere! And I love that gift giving rule, we might start that one next year!
