Meet Carly. She’s one of the very first bloggers I discovered, and straight away I fell in love with her sense of humour and her honesty. Recently we spent a few days together {as part of a group} and I have to say she’s as lovable offline as she is on. She constantly had me in giggles. Carly has kindly put together 5 feel-good movies to help you when you’re having one of those days. You know the ones. You can read more from Carly over on her blog, Smaggle.

  1. Now I want watch Bridget Jones. I’m with you with film 2 and 3. Another movie on my list would be About a Boy, when men are the last creature on earth you’ll ever see again. 🙂

  2. I love, love, love, Ever After. Such a great one. And I have yet to see Love, Actually, but it is on my list!

  3. Down With Love – a hilarious tribute to Rock Hudson and Doris Day. It’s my go to movie when I need to laugh instead of cry.

  4. 4 of these movies are on the top of my all time favorite movies, may just have to watch one of them tonight now 🙂

  5. and add to the list 10 ways to loose a guy in 10 days – but then any movie Matthew McConaughey is in tends to have me 🙂

  6. Just now I like 27 Dresses and 10 Things I hate about You..but Love Actually is a good one. Have to be in the mood for Bridget Jones..not sure what that mood is :/

  7. Great list! I love Princess Bride, Dirty Dancing and Amelie too – although Amelie has subtitles so it’s tough viewing if you get stuck into the red wines too early in the film. Red Like The Sky is my all-time favourite beautiful film for a good old happy cry – in Italian though so the red wine rules apply here too.

  8. As Good as It Gets, Jack Nicholson is fantastic in it, funny but moving movie. Good to watch when you feel like you have ‘issues’, coz no one has issues like Melvin!

  9. What about ‘You’ve Got Mail’ for those technological faux-pas days, and ‘Michael’ for when you want to laugh and cry at the same time too.

  10. My faves for days when I need a cover for secret tears are Dirty Dancing or Ghost!
On a good day I can’t go past Mamma Mia with the hairbrush ( yes I keep one solely for this purpose) and a glass of wine and belt out every tune!

  11. My Faves are – What to expect when your expecting (LOVE THIS MOVIE!), Its Complicated, Bridesmaids and anything Twilight (please dont shoot!)

  12. So here I was taking a 5 minute break from essay writing, “Oh I know I’ll check FMS to see what she has in store! It’s always something nice!”
Here I am 1 hour later, I have been reading post after hilarious post on Carly’s blog and I have no regrets, HAHA!!! Thanks Chantelle and Carly at Smaggle!

  13. What a great list. And, except for Empire Records, I’ve seen the others several times. Time to go and find Empire Records at the DVD shop! I think after all our renovating, I might just vege out next weekend. xx

  14. Empire Records is one of my all time feel-good movies! If I haven’t slipped a quote into daily conversation then my day is not complete (yep, I’m THAT person).

‘There are 24 usable hours in every day’

  15. Absolutely must include You’ve Got Mail, preferably with Sleepless in Seattle. No joke, these must be included! Another gem is Broken English with Parker Posey in in. Fab friday night viewing!

  16. OMG I love Empire Records! Haven’t watched it in years – might be one to crack out tonight 🙂 Also love Love Actually, The Holiday, Because I Said So and The Proposal. Great list!

  17. Love Actually is one of my favorites. I think it’s the gold standard for ensemble movies, and somehow, other movies with the same theme that came after that (ie. Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve, etc) don’t quite get it right. And Zoolander is hilarious! That scene with the male models in the gas station was just funny. Morbid, but funny!

  18. I also totally adore “Love actually” …

Other great films to turn a horrible day into a bearable to good one are:

    – High Fidelity (after the novel of Nick Hornby – but the story has been transferred from London, UK, to Chicago, US) … John Cusack is fantastic as the leading male actor – and it has Jack Black in a very funny role!

    – Garden State … Zach Braff (known as J. D. in “Scrubs”) made his gorgeous debut as a director – and also plays the main character … Natalie Portman is his female big star – and I love her in this film!

    – In Bruges … Never heard the word “f…” so many times in one and a half hours before – and never seen the gorgeous Colin Farrell act SO great … the other main role is played by the fantastic Brendan Gleeson (known as “Mad Eye Moody” in the Harry Potter movies)

There you go with my top 3 movies to get into a better mood … 😀
    Have fun watching!

  19. oh i loved reading these and totally agree with all you perfect when: recommended snacks: quote to remember: oh i love movies

  20. I can’t watch The Hangover without crying with laughter, and I can’t watch Love Actually without crying pretty much the whole way through. Both therapeutic in their own special way. Never seen Empire Records. Sounds like my cup of tea. Thanks for sharing… x

  21. Great list!
I love ‘Love Actually’ – my husband and I always watch it and ‘Elf’ at Christmas time.
My go to fav movies are Pixar’s Up (it’s a talking dog!) and Dirty Dancing – nobody puts Baby in the corner.

  22. See I never grew up on The Princess Bride, so I like it but I don’t have that real attachment to it. We were more of a Never Ending Story family

  23. These are great pics. Now I think I’m going to have to have a girls’ night watching BJ’s Diary with copius amounts of wine and chocolate. One of my very favourites is Crazy Stupid Love because really, Ryan Gossling can make EVERYthing better.
