Things You Never Knew You Didn’t Need To Know.

I planned on being super organised in my new job {and I’ll stop talking about it soon, sorry} but I’m not. There have been days when I’ve only had a chance to shower after lunch. There have been days when I’ve almost forgotten about lunch. There have been days when I neglected my little blog. There have been days {everyday} when I’ve worn the daggiest of clothes, just because I could. And I kinda like it {but will step up next week and make an effort}.

I’m not the only one going through a big career change. All of my siblings are too. Lil Sis took over my job, Big Sis totally changed her career path {and is on fire} and my brother is now working for himself. We’re talking on the world. Kinda. Ok, not really.

As part of her career change Big Sis is now in Event Management. She’s helping running a big charity ball this week, and we’ll be headed there too. One of my favourite singers will be there, as well a big handful of home-grown celebs.

I love me some reality television, especially The Hills and The City. Heidi and Spencer drives me nuts and Olivia too… but I’ll never stop watching.

I’m horrible when flying. I wasn’t always this way. I squirm, flinch and freak out internally with every bump, noise and ounce of turbulence.

Roald Dahl was my favourite author as a child. I remember getting each new book of his from the store, holding it in my hands, smelling it and dreaming about the possibilities. I miss feeling that way about books.
When I read this beautiful quote this morning, it made me want to grab one of his books and re-visit my childhood.

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” ~ Roald Dahl

  1. hope your new job is going well, also hope jen is settling in to her new position….. looking forward to hearing more about it..

I love roald dahl to and seemed to have passed that love onto the kids. Actually my love of reading has definately been passed to miss layla who can't get enough of books, she loves the book shop and her face lights up at the sight of a new book. Like you I miss that, I spent ages in the book shop last night looking for a book for me and nothing took my fancy, I am hard to please these days, lucky I still get to read with the kids and enjoy there stories.

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy wearing your daggy clothes, I haven't taken my ugg boots off all week, the joys of working from home!
    xx

  2. Ooh don't stop talking about your new job, I totally want to hear it! I love Roald Dahl too, with my little boy we're on to about our 6th. We're halfway through reading the BFG now. Was so happy when he got to the stage he didn't need picture books. I still love all RD books, and have almost all of them still from when I was a child. Memories.. Happy weekend to you x

  3. I used to love reading Roald Dahl, still have some of his books on my bookshelf.

I LOVE to HATE Speidi (Spencer and Heidi) and have to say I think Spencer needs professional help, he's off his rocker and I don't think Heidi is that far behind him. As for Olivia – every week when I watch I hope & pray for her demise, that she gets whats coming to her. She's a snake.

  4. Me to, on so many of your habits…..

The working from home thing….sometimes it is gone 8pm before I get into the shower…

And the Roald Dahl…Olivia and Charlie are just entering the realm of “chapter books” for their bedtime stories in comparison to a picture book. I am in heaven at the moment, with Fantastic Mr Fox….

  5. I'm with you on flying. I used to be totally fine. I think it's having kids and that awareness of your mortality that makes sitting in a tube in the sky seem less appealing. Hope your weekend is lovely too!

  6. Here's to PJ's and uggies till lunch time 🙂

I love Roald Dahl, he is still one of my favourites. I have all his books and I'm waiting patiently for the day the boys are old enough. I remember when Mum bought me 'Matilda', I would have been 10,I think. She confessed as she gave it to me, that she couldn't help herself, she had already read it, sneaking pages in after I was tucked up in bed.

  7. First week in the new job working from home – I think that's definitely the time to give the daggy outfits an airing!

I also adored Roald Dahl as a child and I still love him now. His collection of short stories is the one book I could read over and over and never tire of. Magic writing.

  8. Hi Telle!

Completely with you on the Hills/City!!! Spencer is a nutcase, but I cannot stop watching. Car crash TV! And Olivia – most annoying voice in the history of the world!!! 😛

Look forward to hearing about your new job.

    Amelia 🙂

  9. I loved Roald Dahl as a kid as well! What a gorgeous quote. Have a great weekend. Cassie x

  10. I love The Hills as well – Speidi drive me insane! I have no idea what she's still doing with that nutbag! And I also have a soft spot for Roald Dahl… My favourites were Boy, The Witches, The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Matilda… Wait – my favourites were ALL of them!

  11. what a totally lovely random post!

roald dahl is awesome. I still read them to kids at school. timeless. I also have a soft spot for charlie and the chocolate factory, as I played veruca salt in the play when I was in primary school. I wish someone had videoed it so I could see it now.

  12. I adore Roald Dahl as well, and was lucky enough to get to visit his house where he did his writing. His study is still like it was before he died.

Kind of never got into The Hills.

  13. You'll settle in to a routine soon enough. Give yourself a week or two first! 😉

I'm not great at flying either. I'm actually a little better than I used to be when I was younger.

The boys are reading Roald Dahl right now – we're reading Danny Champion Of The World.

I just bought Season 1 of The Hills yesterday! JB HiFi had tv shows marked down, and buy 2 DVDs and get one free! The Hills was my freebie. (If you must know, I also bought Season 5 of Entourage and Season 1 of GLEE.) *happy dance*

    Have a lovely weekend. xx

  14. No don't apologize for talking about work!! I love reading your posts no matter what it's about. I hope you get settled in with your job soon. 🙂

  15. Roald Dahl is awesome…He was one of my favourites too and still is…

Thank you for that quote – I think it sums up what was so appealing about his books….Magic, hidden secrets and the power of believing!Oh, I love it
