Things I’m loving right now

♥ Let’s go on a date: Giving a gift to the one you love of 12 preplanned and prepaid dates. The organised person {somewhere} inside says: “I love it!” I’m already dreaming of ideas.

♥ I’ve got two weddings, one hen’s night, one work party and a handful of other functions coming up over the next 6 months and I think this dress is a winner for getting me through some of them. I’ve heard it’s bad manners to wear black to weddings though, do you agree?

♥ ASOS is coming to Australia. Oh yeah! I love ASOS and I know the shipping is currently free, but because the current store is based in the UK when I’m looking for summer gear – the store is stocked with winter clothes. I’m hoping with a store in Australia, it will mean season appropriate clothing. Bliss!

♥ This ‘Darn Good Chocolate Cake’ is just that, darn good. So good that I’ve made it twice in the past few months {and promptly made guests take it home with them}. If you only make one more chocolate cake for the rest of your life, make it this one.

♥ Is Sienna the most naturally beautiful woman ever? I recently watched The September Issue in which she appeared in a shoot. Love her look.

♥ This cake! I’m wondering whether I can convince my sister to have this cake for her wedding because it’s so so so cute. Right?

♥ My current handbag is so huge and filled to the brim that it weighs about as much as a small child. Seriously. I’m eye-ing off this smaller bag so it will keep me from filling it with unnecessary things.

♥ Doesn’t this song sound like it could be sung by Sting? Hubby brought that to my attention. It’s actually Gotye – Somebody that I used to know. Love it. Lots.

So, what do you think? Wearing black to weddings: yay or nay?

  1. Wally de Backer's (Gotye) voice is one of the most beautiful on the planet. I saw him perform with his old band, The Basics years back in a teeny room and he moved me to tears.
    Love him.

  2. Love Goyte! And love black as wedding colour option. Have worn it myself more than once and had my bridesmaids wear It too! Think only colour off bounds is white these days so you don't look like bride.

And re ASOS, am concerned we won't get the opposite season bargains – the camel coat I got this winter for $60 when it was UK's summer for instance.

    Love your list posts!

  3. Love, love Gotye 🙂

Ordinarily, I'd say wearing black to a wedding is a no-go, however, that dress is smoking. I think you could totally get away with it. A brightly coloured, well-placed accessory would be all you'd need.

And that date planner thingy? What an awesome idea.

Thanks for already brightening my Tuesday Chantelle 🙂

  4. I love that song too and it's funny because I initially thought it was a Sting song that I hadn't heard before 🙂 I think these days black is okay to wear at weddings but perhaps break it up a bit with some colour in your accessories/shoes.

  5. Great list post, Chantelle. I think it's quite OK these days to wear black to weddings. I went to a wedding on the weekend and had a bit of black action happening!! And I wasn't the only one! So go for it!! 🙂

  6. It's funny you should ask… Your blog is my favourite right now. Yesterday I read 'One Dress. Seven days. Seven Ways.' Today I looked for a dress to wear to a wedding that's in a few weeks. I found a black one, they're so versatile and I'm looking forward to glamming mine up with some sparkly jewels.

  7. I seriously hope that black to a wedding is fine because I have just bought the black Francesca dress from the same website for a wedding I have to attend in October! Have decided to add a bit of colour with shoes and jewellery…..

  8. Wearing black to a wedding is a traditional faux pas that just doesn't apply anymore. I've worn black to weddings because I love to dress in black, and I've seen many other people do the same. You're fine.

  9. I think black is the most elegant choice. Plus let's face it – black doesn't date – and you are going to snipped in photos that people will treasure and look at for a lifetime! Just don't ever wear bridal colours – all shades of white is off limits – and I even think it's polite to avoid nude & blush pink 🙂

  10. I always vowed never to wear black or white to a wedding, but earlier this year wore a black lace dress with a white satin sash to my niece's wedding. So…now I think black is ok.

If you are worried accesorise with cool earrings or necklace, bag and shoes (silver maybe? or turquoise!)

  11. A friend's daughter had black-dressed bridesmaids at her wedding..however I am not sure whether all people are fine with the black trend, therefore why don't you have a quiet word with the bride first, just in case.

  12. I'm getting married in 26 days – yippee!!!!! I guess we're not being traditional as we're ducking off to the wedding registry and then meeting up with friends and family at a restaurant for yum cha. I've said smart casual dress – and if everybody was in black I'd be fine with that. Mind you, when one of the guests told me smart casual meant denim, I very strongly disagreed! xx

  13. I think wearing black to wedding is fine… I've done it a few times…you can wear really colourful jewellery then! AND that dress you're looking at looks fabulous!

  14. I think black for a wedding is fine. As far as I'm concerned the only colour off limits is white ( or cream).
I was in Marc by Marc Jacobs in Lisbon last week and that bag is beautiful, there is a cream version that is lovely as well. I was eying off another of the Petal To The Metal bags but they were sold out in the black (fingers crossed the London store has it).
I taken to carrying a smaller bag while I'm on holidays as I have the baby-daddy using his back pack and all I can say us my shoulders are thanking me for not having to cart around the bazillion My Little Petshop or dinosaurs that we totally have to take on every outing.
Oh and that dress is HOT!!!!

  15. LOL, hubby downloaded the goyte album before he went away on the weekend…when he played this song to me I said 'sounds alot like the police'.
The dress is gorgeous…no black was the dress code for our wedding, I'm a bit superstitious/traditional like that! Mind you a friend showing up wearing the same colour and similar fabric to the bridesmaids was a little awkward for her (mind you she had been warned by one of them).
    Tatum xx

  16. Love the IGIGI dress – just bought 2 dresses from this fantastic online shop myself and have a few more in the wardrobe as well – Black to weddings is sooooo OK these days – go for it girl!

  17. Oh my goodness Chantelle, I have been saying the exact same thing to my husband about Gotye's voice, every single time I hear it I think I'm back in the 80's/90's listening to Sting. Haha! Some lovely things to be loving here. That dress is stunning, I'd say go for it. I've heard that about black for weddings also, but have been to alot of weddings with guests wearing black and I actually wore black myself to a wedding when I was 6 months pregnant! Maybe just team it with a colourful pashmina or big flowery brooch or something. You'll look gorgeous :o) xo

  18. OMG love that black dress and how hot and sexy is the model and the peep toes! I'm just home from a formal night and I've got to say a clasic black dress will take you far – I wear black to weddings now and love it! I see people in more modern dresses but the stunning dresses and outfits tend to be black! i picked up some great peep toe shoes at diana ferrari and am loving them
