The mum bag

mum-bag

I have a handbag. A nice one actually. I saved up and shouted myself a beautiful one earlier this year. It’s not fancy, but definitely better quality than the other fall-apart bags I’ve had in the past. It holds everything it needs to, and a little more.

I have a special talent of carrying everything in the world in my handbag. {Note: That’s not a special talent at all really, just stupidity… so my shoulders tell me}. If you need it, it’s probably in my handbag. Pens, mints, cameras, iPads, small children, the kitchen sink, headache tablets, vitamins, it’s ALL in there.

But as well as my handbag, I also carry the mum bag too. The other day I watched Lulu try to stash my phone and my car keys down her top. At first I wondered what on earth she was doing, and then I realised she was doing what I do every SINGLE day without realising.

I stash my phone and keys in my bra often. Like when I got from the drivers seat, to grab Lulu out of the car, prior to getting the pram out. The keys need to go somewhere, and quite often it’s my bra. It’s just convenient.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this?

There have been nights, yes more than one, where I’ve gone to undress and found a small toy in my bra. Or a toy car. Or a remote control. Or something. The Mum Bag! I tell you, it’s handy and it’s real. And if I’m the only one that does this, man… embarrassment.

Actually, I once saw a waitress {with a much smaller bust than I} stash her phone and pen in her bra. I wanted to tell her that I was carrying too.

When Lulu tried to hide the phone and keys, they of course fell to the ground quickly because she was lacking two things – a  bust and a bra. It just didn’t work.

So that’s my mum bag. Perhaps it’s a busty lady thing. Perhaps it’s a mum thing. Perhaps it’s a Chantelle-only thing.

And if phones continue to get larger, I’m going to have a problem as my bra can only hold so much… but until then, in my bra it goes. Along with everything but the kitchen sink, because OUCH.

Do you have a mum bag too? Do you?

  1. Soo many people do this, its not just you! My mum and many of my friends do this but alas, it is a busty girl thing, it just doesn’t work for us c-cup and under girls, as much as i have tried lol

  2. Hey! I love your blog! You make me laugh out loud…and maybe shed a tear every now and again…
I just wanted to share a little story with you…my gorgeous younger sister was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago at 36 years of age…she is A-Ok now, cancer free after months of treatment! We had all the testing and there is no family history, nor is the dreaded cancer gene present. BUT, my sister used to ALWAYS carry her phone…in her bra…on the same side, in the same place that she had the lump removed. Now, I am certainly not a doctor, nor do I have any medical or scientific proof….nor do I want to sound dramatic about this, but….well I just think that perhaps putting your phone is your bra may not be the best idea…
It has certainly made me (and all my friends!) think about it!
Thanks for often brightening my day…hope that I have not freaked anyone out…just given you something to consider…
    xx

    • Kimsem – I didn’t scroll down before I posted the same thing about my sister in law. Just too coincidental for my taste. I barely keep my phone in the same room, not because of health reasons, but more because I don’t want to be bothered.

  3. I used to shove all of the stuff in my bra, especially my phone until one of my friends told me the same thing that Kimsem has and now I never leave my phone in bra, or bum. You can’t be too careful. You are no alone in the bra bag though, but usually just keys, money these days! x

  4. My sister is a busty woman. And her phone is just… ALWAYS in her bra. Even if she has pockets, a bag of whatever. Her cellphone is in there. She may be in pajamas, it doesnt change the fact that she has a cellphony breast.

  5. Please ladies don’t store your phone in your bra. PLEASE!!
I do however store lots of other things in my bra, namely crystals!.

  6. … I did the phone in the bra for years Chantelle… I had this little baby Panasonic phone that didn’t take photos… I loved it… my current phone is too big to do the bra thing.. 🙁 xxx.

  7. Hehehe, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!! I thought it was just a busty girl thing, but I like the mum bag idea… I have been known to stash my keys in my mum bag, then forget they are there and spend 30 minutes looking for said keys!! I sometimes put my phone in there too… glad I am not alone in this 🙂

  8. I call it my booby pocket and at any given time can find all manner of things in there. The other day I couldn’t find either of the baby’s dummies until I took my bra off that night and they were both there.
I used to put my phone in too but stopped when a friend told me it might cause breast cancer. I’d rather be safe than sorry on that one!

  9. I never stuff anything down my bra. I’ve never thought to do it but after reading the comments you’re not alone and maybe I’ve missed a storage compartment I never thought of before?! How funny to see Lulu imitate you. Kids are like sponges aren’t they? X

  10. I’m not a mum yet, but I definitely do this. Phone and money are the usual culprits. If I go out to buy lunch and don’t want to take my hand bag, I’ll just take my phone and cash/ eftpos card. When carrying lunch back to the office my eftpos card/ leftover money/ phone will quite often end up in my bra (my work pants/ skirts don’t have pockets). Sometimes when I take off my bra at night I hear coins fall on the floor because I forgot to take them out earlier! Glad it’s not just me that does this either.

  11. No, I don’t stash anything in my bra!!! Boobies take up enough space! I have been know to find crumbs in my cleavage at time…that’s always a good look. That said, I do have a handbag full of sultana’s, tissues, plastic necklaces and Peppa pig toys…and god knows what else! PS That is the most gorgeous bra!

  12. My dear Sister in Law always stuck her phone there while she worked, for hours. Changed her actions a few years ago when a lump appeared in the same spot. After clean biopsy, it was just enough scare to keep it far from vital body parts.

  13. haha my friend does this. funny you say what to do with the keys and phone when getting out of car and then gotta get Lulu – I have been putting them on the roof. I too have this same problem, only so many hands to hold, baby, her lunchbag and her drink bottle. so theyve been going on the roof and probably scratching it. Im going to try the bra haha

  14. Haha totally do this too! Until my Mum saw me do it at one point and got so cross with me for the radiowaves that come from my phone that were going straight into my boob. naughty naughty. Still, its so handy for storing things – the worst one is change on a night out, getting home and showering the floor with coins! 🙂 Alice xx

  15. Do it all the time, although have stopped with my phone unless it’s just for a minute or two. My lens cap goes down there all the time, funny when you’re with someone and have to dive the hand down the bra to find it, gets some really odd looks.

  16. Every day. Keys, dummies, lipstick, lense caps, phone. Its just so damn convenient because its always just right there!!! When my son is ever looking for something he thinks I’ve hidden from him, like the dummy, the first thing he does is yank down my top!

  17. Perhaps if there was boobs there to hold stuff I might shove a few things down there…. I’m afraid they would just fall out given the lack of anything on my chest!!

  18. Oh, this cracked me up, I read the post thinking why on earth would you store anything in your bra?! If I put anything in there it would fall to my feet unless I duct taped it in. Then I read some comments and smiled and laughed. Now I am jealous that I don’t/can’t store stuff in there. Pockets smockets eh!

  19. My phone and keys also go straight to the bra when two hands are (temporarily) required! However, things like dummies, small toys, shells from the beach have been known to get lost in there long term 😉 I *may* have even intentionally kept a dummy in there during bridesmaid duties at a destination wedding my son couldn’t attend..

  20. I did this often in the past – not the phone, but definitely the lip balm and the tissues and the keys hooked onto the strap. Having lost the need for a bra when I lost the boobs to cancer I didn’t realize how often I did use the mum bag! Now I rarely wear a bra…. but I sometimes “boob-up” just so I do have that extra pocket!!! <3

  21. So meeee (well carrying everything in my handbag, just in case)!!! I have to have my bag with me, as I’ve been caught out before without toddler’s spare unides, plastic bags, wipes, tissues, you name it…. Maybe all those mum’s I see without handbags and keys etc, all have them stuffed in their bras….
