The holiday I didn’t know I needed

We go on a lot of road trips. I only realised that this week. Lacey, from the age of newborn to about 2 years, hated the car. She cried from start to finish even if it was just to the supermarket. So we’re making up for lost time, because now she loves long trips. Phew!

Last week we set off on a birthday tour. We arrived up the coast at Hubby’s Ma’s house for her birthday, which we celebrated with some Chinese food and fun times. The next day we then headed up to a resort in Kingscliff. It’s my new, most favourite place on earth. It’s amazing.

Hubby and I had stayed at the resort last November for a friend’s wedding and we didn’t take Lacey. The whole time we were there I felt a bit out of sorts. Some of our friends had brought their kids and we didn’t, and I knew Lacey would love it. So when we got back home we booked a few nights there so we could take Lacey with us. She called it ‘her’ holiday. It was ‘her’ holiday house, and nobody elses. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her so happy.

On the Tuesday of our holiday we were invited by Dreamworld to visit as their guests. Lacey was so excited by the Wiggle World. We watched Dorothy’s concert and went on the Big Red Car ride. Lacey loved feeding the animals. We didn’t get to go on any big people rides, but we did get to eat lunch in the cool of the air-conditioning. Hubby said that that was his Dream World.

On Hubby’s birthday we headed back to his Ma’s house to celebrate. Hubby put in a special order for dinner cooked by his Mum, so that’s what he got. He was in heaven. Before our trip we bought Hubby a stand-up paddle board so he made good use of it on his time away. I’m contemplating getting on it one day in the future. If I can stop being a scaredy-cat.

We left for home on Saturday and arrived back in time to celebrate my own Ma’s birthday. And the birthday tour was complete.

I didn’t realise how much I needed the holiday until I was on it. The day we arrived up the coast I popped out for a massage, and it was perfect. I was so relaxed that I was sleepy most days. The tension was gone from my shoulders and I found my patience again.

When’s the last time you took some time away? Are you due for another holiday soon?

  1. Sounds perfect!! My brother in law lived at Kingscliff for many years….I would love visiting him on weekends…its such a beautiful place! Wow…you've had a birthday heavy month…..fun!! Good to hear you're feeling refreshed after your getaway! Oh, how I love the therapy a good holiday can do. x

  2. That sounds amazing, Chantelle. I am SUCH an advocate of holidays. Even one night a day can recharge the batteries effectively. I think I am almost constantly planning a trip of some sort. Some come to fruition, some don't – but I am holiday obsessed. Planning is fun even when they don't go ahead!!!

  3. Sounds like a fabulous break.
We try to get away every month, even if its just for a couple of days. We are fortunate enough to have a caravan so it make it easier to pack up & go. The kids love it & we do too. Refreshes all of us. We also try to do one trip a year without the kids 😉

  4. We just arrived home last night from a week vacay on the Coral Coast in Fiji. We went for our cousins wedding, & stayed at the Naviti Resort. It was our 2 year olds first plane ride & he was soo good! I too felt sleepy alot & also put it down to being so relaxed. We are looking forward to a trip to the snow this winter & also a return to Fiji in December – to my hubby's pleasure as he was born there, so it always feels like HOME to him,x

  5. Sounds like you had a great time – sorry I didn't know you were on the Coast otherwise I would have tried to say hullo somewhere on the day !

We love road trips (well Al and I do – K not so much anymore unless she has her book and iPod !)- we were going to Canada for our 25th wedding anniversary this year but plans have changed and we are busy booking two weeks on the south island of NZ this year and Canada in the summer next year – all very exciting. Lots of driving planned – hope it doesn't snow too much !!!

Have the best day possible – love, hugs and positive energy.

  6. What a great trip. I had forgotten about the Wiggles World at Dreamworld. Mmmm we might have to make a trip. We have just come back from Japan including a day at Tokyo Disney. Miss two had a wonderful time. I am feeling a little anxious as we have no holiday booked at present although planning is underway for a trip to NYC in July 2013 for hubby's 40th.

  7. Sounds great. How about a blog post reviewing the resort or some photos. I love hearing travel recs from people particularly places that suit kids.

  8. That looks absolutely beautiful Chantelle. Our last holiday was absolutely beautiful, a week in a bungalow on the shores of Glenelg Beach. Like Lacey, it was Carter's 'holiday!' house, and he cried when we had to go home. We now try and do one nighter's here and there. Life is sweet when you can do that!

  9. Beware the stand up paddle board. Mr woog has one and I have tried… god knows I have tried! Sounds like just what the doctor ordered…. and yes. I am overdue for a getaway! Even if just for one night x

  10. Our last holiday was November when we went to Hawaii for my brothers wedding, but with a 2yr old and 7mth old in tow I'm not sure I would use the word relaxing… We are headed down the south coast (of NSW) in October for a few days and will be staying in a cabin. I can't wait! I'm thinking it will be more relaxing than international travel with toddlers!

  11. 1776 km – wow that is some distance …. If we drive 50km in my country we feel we've had a long road-trip! Jules x (the small country that you could drive across in one day – UK!) x

  12. What a great holiday! I love the GoldCoast – and Kingscliff is so beautiful!

We have been to Dreamworld with our boys – they love it 🙂

A massage would be so perfect – and yep I so get what you mean…a holiday is perfect for the realise of shoulder stress!

    Cheers
    Lisa

  13. So glad you had a great break! Kings cliff is so Beautiful I've had friends move there in the past few months. They haven't regretted it! I'd move there too if I didn't have to commute! We're on holidays right now, but I'd give anything to start again and take antibiotics At the start rather than now. Yep, been sick the whole time. And I nay be bitter about it 😉 x

  14. sounds like it was just what the soul needed!

we're heading away in May, it will be our first holiday in 2 years and our first interstate for 5 years. we're heading to the Snowy Mountains at the end of May and i'm beyond looking forward to cold weather, autumn leaves and the real possibility of snow on mountain tops! can't wait, it's long overdue!
