South Australia, do you want to have some fun with me?

Hello! Yesterday we held our photography workshop on the Gold Coast and it was simply awesome. I’ll never get bored of hanging with kids and seeing them get so excited about photography. Tomorrow I’m headed to Melbourne, and I’ll write a wrap-up of those days on my blog next week.

But for now, I want to grab your attention South Australia peeps. If you haven’t heard, I’ve been hosting photography workshops around Australia. We’ve done Sydney, and Gold Coast, and Melbourne tomorrow {as I mentioned} and now we want to head to South Australia {Adelaide!}. The workshops are for mamas and their kids, to share the passion of photography with each other. Rachel gives us a few tips on how to master photography, we eat a beautiful lunch and then we go exploring and take some photos. Olympus hosts us and provides the cameras, and we bring our own fun.

Sound like something you’d like to do?

It’ll be held at Patch Kitchen and Garden on October 8th from 11am to 2pm. You don’t need to bring a thing, just your fine self and your child. We’ll provide everything else, including goodie bags. Also one child will be going home with a Olympus Stylus TG-4 {an awesome camera that’s waterproof and hard to break, so kid-proof!}.

It’s also FREE. Yep, won’t cost you a cent. We have 30 seats to fill, 15 adults and 15 kids. All you have to do is answer the follow question in the comments below, and I’ll select 15 people to attend. The question is: What’s your most favourite thing to do with your child/children?

Competition closes October 1st at 7pm. One entry per person. Winners must make their own way to and from the event.

I’m an ambassador for Olympus. You can read more about our relationship here.

  1. Discover the world, Travel , meet new people!! See all we possibly can and together before they fly from the nest. And if possible capture some of these moments from their perspective ?

  2. We love to explore our world, near and far. From different cultures in foreign lands, to the inch ants on the hill behind our house. From the sights and sounds of busy food markets, to investigating grains of sand at the beach. Always adventuring!

  3. Enjoying the outdoors and everything it has to offer… Whether it’s muddy puddles in the rain or building sand castles in the sun my little man just loves being outside, learning and exploring. And I maybe like chasing him around with my camera while he is doing it ?

  4. We love getting out and finding new parks and areas to explore, my kids are very much outdoor kids! My son loves taking photos, so I encourage him to take his camera with him whenever we go somewhere fun, love seeing his perspective on things!

  5. Exploring in nature. Whether it’s wandering the botanic gardens, digging in the sand and collecting shells at the beach, spotting cloud formations in the sky or picking flowers in the yard! We always enjoy the outdoors together and of course I take a billion photos of my two darlings {Madeleine, almost 5 and Archer, 16 months} while we’re at it!

  6. At the moment I love peaceful activities with my boys, like baking. Being pregnant I don’t have much energy but what I do have is lots of sweet cravings and two boys who are excellent measurers and mixers!

  7. My favourite thing to do with my kids is to walk along the beach. We build castles and collect seashells. Summer winter autumn spring. Any given day.

  8. I actually find this really hard to answer. Reading is probably the first thing that comes to mind, but playing at the beach is pretty high up there too. Cooking with my youngest is always wonderful, and then that early morning or just before bed cuddle (and then all the others through out the day) are just wonderful.

  9. My favourite thing to do with my 2 boys is go on bushwalks (or adventure walks as they have come to be known!). We jump over creeks, climb steep embankments and are always on the look out for koalas (which we often do see!) We are so very lucky to live in a gorgeous area with plenty of walking tracks around.

  10. My absolute favourite thing to do with my boys is baking. They love to get involved and who doesn’t like making {and then eating} cake! It reminds me so much of my childhood, sitting on the bench baking with my mum. Our family has a really good (but also bad) habit of loving through food! Oh and I also love a cuddle – nothing better than a smooch from my boys! X

  11. My favourite thing to do with my children is to enjoy them! Watching them grow into beautiful people, explore the world around them & discover all the wonders that abound. How the simplest of adventures are the ones that make the greatest memories x

  12. I’d love to attend with my teenage daughter Chantelle! She’s a middle child with two brothers and though it would take us a couple of hours to get to Adelaide, I’d love just to have that time in the car to listen to her chat, which is my favourite thing – I sometimes forget just how funny, clever and smart these kids are! xx

  13. One my daughter’s and my favourite thing to do is to grab the camera and phone (her) and to go exploring our neighbourhood and find things to take photos of. She’s becoming a little chip off the old block, and even likes to take photos of her toys in my light box.

  14. My favourite thing to do with my two kids is to teach and learn about the seasons. We are lucky enough to live on a vineyard and the kids love nothing more than learning about and watching the seasonal changes that take place from bud burst to harvest to pruning. We also enjoy feeding the chooks, cutting and collecting wood to keep us warm, checking the rain gauge, looking after the veggie patch and going on adventures down at the creek.

  15. My favourite thing to do with my children is lie in their beds at bedtime and chat. In that time I hear about their dreams, their days, their ideas and stories. I LOVE those little glimpses into their minds.

  16. I love capturing the moments with them, whether they are the everyday moments, like our silly bedtime dances, or special moments like seeing their faces when we visit new places.. Time may pass, but at least I’ll always have photos of them and us together for all the good times and the not so good times..

  17. Be! Just be! Be with them at the beach… At the forest… On a bush walk… In the kitchen… Just be.. In the moment, with my squirts and me.

  18. Hi! We live on a farm so we have a lot of space to go and explore! The girls and I gather things along our travels and then the fun part is making something with our treasures when we get back to the house!

  19. Going outside & collecting shells, sticks, rocks, flowers, veggies, anything really. Our house is always full of decomposing flowers & tomatoes, it’s kinda gross, hahaha.

  20. Wow! So excited you’re heading to Adelaide, yay! My favourite thing to do with my little person is to hang in the yard, soaking up the sunshine with the fluffy pup and a coffee in hand. Lately Saturday mornings have been sunny, it’s become a beautiful ritual. It really is the simple moments I’m most grateful for in life x

  21. First up I think I would legitimately cry if I finally got to meet you. My absolute favourite thing to do with my boys is read aloud to them at bed time. I totally LOVE it and it’s such a great catalyst for discussion of all kinds. Having each one of them snuggled either side of me as we read in bed together makes any of the cranky slide away and it reestablishes our connection. Blissful.

  22. This would be awesome for my almost 10yo daughter who is currently showing lots of interest in photography. I love seeing the passion she has for photography from using her iPad mini so I would love to help facilitate her passion and invest in a camera for her 10th birthday. I love watching her create iMovies, taking care with editing and then seeing the finished product. So right now my favourite thing to do with my daughter is taking her out to different places for footage for her movie clips because I can see how much pleasure she gets from this.

  23. So excited to see you coming to Adelaide! I love giving them new experiences and hopefully create some memories. I also just love being in nature with my curious little critters. I try where possible to capture these new experiences and everyday moments and put myself in the photo with them, so in the future they can look back at all the fun things we did together.

  24. Dinner time is my fave, no electronics, no distractions just each other and we each do a learn for the day and a favorite thing. This time is the most precious time I spend with my two, we share, converse and absorb each others world, they open up so much this way. It’s the most special time of the day for me <3 I love listening to their stories and what makes their world so special 🙂

  25. Ooh wished I’d seen this earlier….my favorite thing to do with my kids is watch them explore their world and get excited about it. .even if its the color of some dirt…the rock they just found or the flowers in the garden.
    Have fun ☺

  26. I have two little girls, age 6 and 2, so (as you would know) there is endless fun to be had! But I think my favourite thing to do is to say YES. To set all jobs and distractions aside and give them my full, undivided attention, and just follow their lead, really listen to their chatter and immerse myself in whatever they want to do. Yes I’ll play babies with you, yes I’ll colour with you, yes we can listen to Yellow Submarine again… life is busy and it doesn’t always happen, but whenever I can, I like to give them 100% of me 🙂 xxx

  27. I love the odd times when I get to have one on one time over a cup of milo or tea, and just openly chat…….about life, about what excites them, what is worrying them. It also reminds me of the unique personalities each of my girls is developing, and actually get to know them just a little better. Connecting; that’s what I love most.

    • Hi Katherine, lovely to meet you and Niamh today. Hope your trip home was uneventful and that you are feeling ok now. Max and I had fun today, photography will now be something we look forward to building on together. Take care, Amanda

      • Hi Amanda! Lovely to meet you and Max too! Unfortunately it turned into a bout of vertigo and so have spent the last few days in bed- not a terrific end to the holidays! But I am on the mend and ready for the new term (luckily I don’t work till Wed 😉 I think photography will be something Niamh and I can explore too – I’m looking forward to it 🙂 Hope the rest of your school holidays were enjoyable! Thanks again for your concern xx Katherine

  28. We like to go explore. Ever since they were really little we’ve gone on walks and talked all about the beautiful things we see, the colours, the sounds. Every now and then I’d take a photo of these beautiful things and we’d talk about that. Immy, almost 4, loves looking at and learning to take photos and lil Cal, 21 months, just loves the stories. Today our adventures will take us, and Dad, to look at old cars in The Bay To Birdwood. I can’t wait. Camera is ready. Zoe xx

  29. I love to snuggle in bed and catch up on the important things, the things that fill their little hearts and only seem to come out in these quiet moments shared.

  30. I don’t have children but two gorgeous nieces and I’m incredibly blessed to be able to spend so much time with them. My favourite thing to do with them is to literally just spend time with them; speak with them about what they did at school and kindy, make birthday cards for their Grandad, colour in, play treasure hunt with natural items from the backyard, anytime spent with them is a blessing. They both like taking photos too ?

  31. We have 5 children and life is certainly loud and chaotic but mostly fun. I just love being with them everyday, whether it’s watching them participate in their favourite sport, days spent on the beach or snuggling up on the couch. One of the biggest challenges is being able to spend one on one time with each of them, but when it does occur this time is truly special.

  32. My three have all grown up but my four year old granddaughter would love to do this with me, we enjoy taking photos together and she loves looking at how they turn out. But most of all we enjoy spending time together.

  33. Ohhhh – Lots of things…. But the common thread is something they enjoy doing – makes it much less stressful!! Usually outside, and most recently my 8 year old has discovered an interest in photography and loves getting creative in nature! It is wonderful to have a shared passion – especially at an age where Mum is starting to become uncool… it is SO nice to have this to share and I hope it continues to grow, as he becomes a young man (who will still be hanging out with his Mum – maybe ‘helping’ her with her photography!!)

  34. I’d love to come as we’re planning a Hills day that day already, and my little 2yo LOVES playing with “his” camera (our waterproof, shockproof point-and-shoot) and I love Olympus and would love a chance to learn more about photography!

  35. These days I love best just “being” with my children. Between work, sports, technology and day to day household survival, having time to just sit and talk and watch is so precious ! Walking the dog, watering the garden and just having slow unrushed and uninterrupted conversations. Hearing about their lives away from me. This class sounds like just one of those opportunities…..

  36. I have 3 kids, almost 5, 3.5 & 14 months. I love taking photos of them and with them and the girls love to pretend to take photos like Mummy does!

  37. Id love to take my 2 beautiful girls our favorite time spending together is cuddling on the couch with chips chocolate and goods with our face masks on and hair all washed and having all the girlie movies play my daughter love titanic and all 3 of us always cry love spending time with them we get to have personal chats and even talk about boy friends yes whi they like lol. I love being evolved in their childhood because I knkw they can always come to me when ever they are in trouble need help or just a mummy huggle. I love them so much no words can express my love for them

  38. My four year old daughter and my 10 month old son and I love going for walks / scoots and rides hunting for caterpillars and butterflies ? Our favourite special place to explore is the botanical gardens or as miss 4 puts it “can we go to better homes and gardens?” (Her fav TV show to watch together on movie night!). I enjoy macro photography and although miss m has a Basic kids digital camera she often asks for my phone to photograph the bugs & flowers we find as well as her little brother as it “is a real picture”. I would love to take her to this workshop to learn more about photography Away from iPhones and iPads but also for a special mummy daughter bonding day – our “better homes and garden dates” have been few and far between since little bro came along.

  39. My favourite thing to do with my children is to make music videos with them and watch their finished product they edit themselves. They love taking photos and videos and creating memories with them, either at home, the park or at school is the best. My eldest daughter wants to study photography when she is older.

  40. Our favourite thing to do together? Get outside! Explore, play in the mud, climb trees, take photos of small seemingly insignificant things that are important to them. We ride, play in creeks, collect things to make into crafts of to play with. There are always things to find outdoors.

  41. We love anything to do with nature. Most of our days include climbing trees, finding bugs (we get especially excited when we find worms and always put them in the veggie patch), collecting sticks, and making mud pies in our mud kitchen.

  42. My favourite experiences with my children are ones where I see the world through their eyes, especially when they see something for the first time or help me see something in a novel way. Recently we were on the tram travelling through the city, and my four year old daughter looked up at window cleaners cleaning sky-high buildings and said “Naughty Spidermans. They might hurt themselves”. I just laughed and laughed! Sometimes it takes us slowing down and seeing those moments through the eyes of little people to appreciate the many perspectives we can take. Photos help with that process. PS- We love Patch! Such a wonderful concept and the food and service is exceptional!

  43. So hard to pick only one thing. I would have to say I love craft time the most. Watching my 4yr old daughter create amazing pictures or 3D creations with items we would usually consider junk. She especially loves using leaves, gumnuts etc collected on our park walks. She is also a budding photographer and would love this adventure! Thank you x

  44. My son (5), partner and I love to explore, find new things and talk about them. He is very interested and asks lots of questions. This would be a fantastic opportunity for my boy to do what he loves this school holidays <3

  45. This is a very hard question to answer as there is so many wonderful things that i love to do with my children. One thing i love is seeing rainbows with my daughter and son, they get so excited and love to tell me how rainbow happen because there is sunshine and rain. i have always loved rainbows but now they are even more special to me as my children love them as much as i do.
thanks for getting me to sit and think about all the things that i love to do with my children, life can get busy and i dont always remember to sit back and reflect on what amazing joy my children bring into my life

  46. for me, it’s just spending time with my kids without having to worry about time. My oldest and I don’t get to spend as much one on one time as I would like because I work and the days I don’t work I of course have the youngest with us. This would be an awesome treat for him and I to spend some time together.

  47. My favourite thing to do with my son is read books with him. His imagination is absolutely extraordinary. The mummy and son time is so important, especially as a single mum, I cherish the moments I just get to sit down and be present with him. He is only 2.5yo so I understand he may be a bit young to grasp photography but gosh he takes a mad selfie with my phone :).

  48. I know I’m a little late to enter, but my grandson (aged 7) is showing a massive interest in photography and we have had so much fun taking photos these school holidays with my Olympus Pen. I know he’d love to come along to this workshop!
