Where To Shop: Plus Size Swimwear Stores

In all my 36 years of living, I had never tried a cossie {swimming costume} on in a shop. Never. I’d been scarred by magazine articles in a teen to think it was a horrendous experience {as bad as they come!}, so I simply saved myself the experience and avoided trying them on.

I’d just go in blindly, look at them, and hope that they’d fit, buying them to take home. Or I’d buy online. Sometimes it was hit and sometimes it was miss, but it was the only way I knew how.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but do you know what is even more ridiculous? For a period of my life I didn’t even own a cossie, because fat people shouldn’t swim… riiight? FLIPPING INSANITY. I know. Why all this hoopla around swimming. All that stuff I read in magazines? It was utter nonsense. I should know, because I recently broke my swimwear/changeroom dry spell.

I went into the swimwear shop in town, and I had the intention of just grabbing one of the rack, paying for it and walking out. My family were waiting outside, so I was really going to be quick… but then the kind salesperson asked me to try it on. I told her that I didn’t need to. But she encouraged me, so I took three into the changeroom and tried them on.

Lacey thought I’d gone missing, so she waltzed into the change room while I was in my first swimsuit exposing me to the saleslady. “That looks great!” she enthused.

I looked at myself, and I didn’t look half bad. I tried on all three, and the crazy thing was, I liked them all. I wasn’t scarred either. It was pleasant. I picked my most favourite, paid a crazy amount for it, and went on my way.

So if there’s two things you should know, they’re this: Get the swimsuit, and GO SWIMMING.

Here’s my favourite places to shop. I’m thinking that spotty City Chic one needs to be added to cart, pronto.

  1. Yay for togs you love to wear!!!
I like Panache bikinis – they’re not strictly plus-size but they cater for big busts (which I think we can agree is essential if you’re not keen on escaboobies at the beach! ?)

  2. I always wear shorts! They hide my thighs and I dont have to worry about the bikini line! Having said that I love the spotted 2 piece here!

  3. I wish Australian stores would sell something like this. I don’t like buying on line as I need to try things on. I am an apple shape and I need something slimming. I don’t want a straight jacket either. Something comfortable that has a clip and the back so straps don’t fall off. I love this cossie but Australian stores have nothing similar. I like v-neck cause I don’t wanna look like a nanny. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Top-Women-swimming-costume-one-piece-swimsuit-best-swimwear-UK-size-10-20/121933742923?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D43572%26meid%3D8435a0b306e441919e34527513499e95%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D121933742923
