Road trippin’ to the home land

I think everyone thinks I’ve gone nuts. When it comes to driving I’m the last person to go out of way to do something for someone. Sydney traffic is the pits, and I spent way too many hours as a nanny on the road… I feel I’ve done my duties. Lately though, it’s a totally different story. I can’t get enough of the driving business. Someone needs a lift from the airport? I’m there. Did someone mention road trip? I’m all over it like a rash.

You see Skoda delivered me one of their new Octavia 4WD last month and I’m suddenly loving driving. I’m declaring June the month of the road trips. We’ve got mini-getaways planned for each weekend, and I’m a little bit {too} excited about it.

Our first little weekend away was south to where I grew up {2.5 hours south of Sydney}. My Lil Sis, brother and Dad all live in Nowra {or thereabouts}, so there are always plenty of people to see and places to stay. This time I wanted to explore a little, so we planned to take Lacey out to feed the birds at a little place called Green Patch.

Lacey fell asleep, so we explored a little while she slept and stumbled across the most beautiful beach we’ve ever seen, Murrays Beach. It’s a little bit off the beaten track, but worth the short walk.

As we were walking there were handfuls of tourists passing us to head back to their cars, and it amazed me that these people had traveled most probably quite a distance to see the beautiful beach and I’d lived nearby for years and never once heard of it.

We even spotted a wallaby just metres from the path as we walked down to the beach. It wasn’t frightened of us in the slightest. It just looked at us and kept nibbling on the leaves of a little tree.

Lacey finally woke and we headed for Green Patch {just the next beach along}.

We took along some seeds for the birds and waited for them to come and land on our open hands. I assured Lil Sis that they would come, but she was doubtful. I have a fear of birds so I was petrified that they would actually come, but I was also hopeful for Lacey’s sake.

And they did come, in flocks. I might have squealed and shrieked a little bit. They’re cute though, aren’t they?

We then headed back into town to spend some time with my brother and his girlfriend, and then over to see my Dad and meet his new wife.

Do you like driving, or do you prefer to be driven?

P.S. I should disclose I wasn’t paid for this post, or any posts regarding the car. Skoda just gave me the car for a month & some petrol and asked me to have fun. I am under no obligation to write about it. x

  1. What, no picture of the full car?! I drove a skoda station wagon one weekend and OMG….I fell i love. It was amazingly smooth to drive. I could steer with one finger! Just loved it. Think they're grossly overlooked here!

I love driving if I'm not in traffic. Open road, loud music, windows down…heaven. However, I am the worst passenger on the planet!

  2. Gorgeous.. and oh oh.. can I have a car and petrol paid for a month :-).. That would rock my world!.. not to mention I hope you take that baby off road :-).. Dunno about round sydney area but there's some GORGEOUS places around South East Queensland where you can off road on AMAZING beaches!

Anyways.. thought I'd say hi.. been lurking/stalking your blog for awhile now!

    E.

  3. I like to be driven. Which can be a problem when I have to drive by myself in our closest city. It all looks familiar but I can't get anywhere! If I had a fueled up Skoda to practise in, I'd be there in a flash though!

  4. I love driving! We have a Holden Adventra and it is an awesome car! That said, I haven't driven a Skoda so can't directly compare. 😉

Love that you're getting away for the weekeneds – we love exploring and did a day trip up to the snow last week, and hopefully will get up there at least once a fortnight over winter and then have more road trips in summer. Best way to get out of the house and explore the world around us!

  5. i'll take being driven any day! i love kicking back in the passenger seat and chatting/reading/writing/dreaming + tending to the kids as they need things! we do ALOT of driving between where we live and Adelaide (550km each way) and I'll do pretty much anything to avoid the drivers seat…mid you hubby much prefers the drivers seat anyway! happy travels 🙂 tatum xx

  6. What a lovely road trip and that beach does look amazing, quite different to the Sydney beaches. I do love driving, in fact, I do most of the driving, as hubby couldn't care less and actually prefers to be driven… so it works well.
We have a massive fear of birds here at the moment too… Mr3 is terrified of all types of birds and even has nightmares about them, the fear only started recently, but it's severe. You were brave to take on lorikeets, they can be SO aggressive.
    Happy driving Chantelle :o)

  7. How exciting for the birds to feed from your hands!! I would have been thrill and scared at the same time.
I love to drive. I will drive as long as I have a map money for tolls and a full tank.

  8. Yeah how lovely are the Skoda wagons. We test drove on but ended up with a Volvo because we didn't want to wait 6 months for the colour of our choice to arrive.

I have a thing about birds too since I saw The Birds by Hitchcock.
