On my reading pile, what’s on yours?

Brought to you by audible.com.auaudible

As a kid I was a huge lover of books, particularly Roald Dahl and Judy Blume. I would devour books in one sitting. I loved getting lost in books for hours and hours, and then emerging only to feel like I couldn’t shake the story {and I kinda didn’t want to either}.

I know today there are truckloads of Apps that keep kids occupied, and I’ve bought Lacey a few books from the App store {interactive type books} but I quite like the idea of going back to basics too, letting kids get lost in books. audible.com.au is an online audiobook service {part of Amazon}, where you can purchase books for children and adults, or join as a member to get your book fix more regularly. At the moment they’ve got a free trial so you can see how you like it. A little taste-tester if you will. You’ll get a free book for the first month, and then just pay $14.95 to get a new book each month after that.

How it works:

1. Download the free App
2. Browse the library of books, and download your pick
3. Listen away

Here are some books on my must-read list:

audible-1

1. The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson
I haven’t met a kid yet that doesn’t love this book.
2. The 4-hour work week by Timothy Ferriss
Ironically I bought this book about 4 years ago and couldn’t find the four hours to read it. I’m going to listen as I work.
3. Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann
Pink AND dancing. It’s a 6 year old girl’s dream!
4. Peppa Pig goes to the dentist
This one will entertain both the girls
5. How to speak dragonese by Cressida Cowell
6. The Icarus Deception by Seth Goden
I love the way Seth’s brain works. Can’t get enough.
7. The fault in our stars by John Green
I’m determined to read {hear!} the book before I see the movie. Have you done the same?

You can grab your free trial here and start listening away. If you’ve got a road-trip planned, I reckon this is the key to a peaceful trip!

What’s on your current reading {or listening} pile?

  1. Right now I am in the process of reading 3 books lol. The Girl with th am a huge lover of readinge Dragon Tattoo…….Fahrenheit 451…..and Vampire Narcise. i am a HUGE believer in reading in any form. 🙂

  2. I’m a bit of a nut when it comes to kids books – great to see The Gruffalo at #1 (highly recommend the mini-movie version too if you haven’t seen it – it’s on ABC4Kids this weekend I think). Miss TT (age 4) has recently discovered Dr Seuss so Green Eggs & Ham and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish are on the current pile. Multiple readings of these are doing my head in….. We also have We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Stick Man, I Want My Hat Back and a number of Peppa Pig titles on this week’s favoured reading pile. Where is the Green Sheep is featured in every week’s pile as Mr TT (age 2) is a little obsessed with that one!

  3. The Fault in our Stars – Oh definitely read the book first! I’ve tried Audible previously (mostly got the classics, like Jane Austen). I listen while on the commute to and from work.

  4. Just finished Fault in our Stars. It’s amazing but here’s a tip, you will need tissues. I watched the movie on the plane and cried like a baby. I was too sad to be embarrassed. It’s a must read!

  5. I was determined to read the Fault in our Stars before I watched the movie too. Then one day, when I was a 1/4 of a way through the book, we found ourselves with a few spare hours and went and saw it at the cinema! I never finished the book but I think I should… the movie was great and people say the book is even better!
    I just finished Anh Do’s memoir “A Happiest Refugee”… couldn’t stop, a great read!
