Random Things

ONE

On Friday I flew into Perth around 10pm, and jumped into a taxi to get to my hotel. The guy was the chatty type, and he asked me, “Are you in mining or gas?” I laughed and told him none. He then quizzed me about every aspect of my work, and finally asked, “What qualifications for this do you have?” And when I said “nothing”, he laughed. “I am not meeting anyone who has a qualification of nothing.” He was also amazed to meet someone that wasn’t working in mining or gas. When we left he said, “I am thinking you are famous.” I told him no, and he laughed.

Friday was the 13th, and I didn’t think too much about it because I was flying and it’s not wise to be thinking those thoughts, but Rachel told me about a movie called Saturday the 14th and that sometimes bad things happen on that day too. We laughed about it over the day, and any slight mishap we’d just laugh, “SATURDAY THE 14TH!” At the end of the day we were racing in a cab to get to the beach to see the sunset. The driver said he didn’t think we’d make it. SATURDAY THE 14TH.

We did make it though, just in time. And it was awesome as I’d imagined. It’s been at the top of my bucket list for so long, seeing the sun set on the west, and now I’ve ticked it off. {Sadly my camera battery died just as I arrived, so I had to shoot on my phone}.

Isn’t it beautiful?

THREE

The weather in Perth was insanely hot. Like sweat in places you didn’t know you could sweat. I’m scared about summer. Do you like super hot weather?

FOUR

The Kookery makes beautiful, hilarious kitchen goodies and they kindly sent me some to give to each guest at our photography workshop {the reason I went to Perth}. If you’re looking for a fun Christmas gift for practically anyone, check them out here. I got so many beautiful gifts from the guests {more on that later though}.

FIVE

I’ve written about this on Facebook, but I’ll write about it here too, because SCARY. I stayed at a fancy, new hotel in Perth on the weekend. It was beautiful. Best shower ever. Everything in the mini bar was free. Awesome. But on my second night there, I was fast asleep when at 10pm someone came into my room. I sat straight up and screamed for them to leave, and they did {it was pitch black so I couldn’t see, only hear}. I was frozen in fear, which is a weird feeling… not being able to move. I called reception who told me they’d look into it, and when I realised I wasn’t going to be able to sleep and called them back and asked who it was, and they said it was the turn-down service {yet I’d already had the turn-down service while I was out getting the sunset pics}. I don’t know what really happened, but I slept with one eye open all night {which is quite a talent when you think about it}.

I heard about the attacks in Paris over radios and as I passed TVs during the day, and it was so upsetting. I was listening to it in the taxi on the way to lunch, and saw these stickers on the dashboard. My worries are so small in comparison to what’s happening in the bigger picture. ?

SEVEN

I’ve flown so much over the past 5 months that I have a few points up my sleeve. I used them for upgrades to and from Perth, which I loved. The hostess remembered me from other flights too. I’m a local in the air! I downloaded Trainwreck to watch on the plane. Well I thought I did. When I opened my iPad I realised it hadn’t worked. So I studied instead {I’m the worst student. I’m six weeks behind!}.

EIGHT

Rachel, being from the States, is obsessed with the nicknames Australians have. We’ll make someone’s short name longer by giving them a nickname. We gave our driver the nickname Wazza {Wayne}, and she asked me what my nickname was. I get Channy or Telle, but back when I was younger I was Channy Fanny. What’s yours?

Tell me something random from your weekend.

  1. I don’t know how you slept at all after that. My weekend wasn’t so exciting. Sick and craft with my toddler. But it was fun

  2. Don’t worry too much about Trainwreck – it was totally different to what I expected!! So awesome to hug you again – we do alright sober! Bahaha!! Yes Perth has a way of making you sweat til you cry in Summer! Sweet Baby Jesus!! Farmer loves to work in this heat – bluugh!! Gorgeous location, Will is busting to come again to a class, haha! He was quite taken with it all. Thanks again gorgeous – how good are those sunsets xx

  3. I’m terrified of home invasions and hotel invasions too. I always do the double lock thing. Gee, you’re brave! I get Sam, Sammie and my oldest friends and family call me Mandy. It’s a wonder I haven’t got a split personality really…

  4. Whenever I stay in hotels I always put a chair against the door at night before I go to sleep for that very reason! It’s never happened to me at night, but I’ve heard of staff coming in to rooms unbidden and it would completely freak me out too.

When I stayed in a five star hotel recently I was working in my room all day because of deadlines (which is really unusual for me as I’m usually touristy and love to get out and see things) and I was shocked at the number of staff who came in and out of my room while I was there quietly working. They obviously expected people to go out during the day and were all quite surprised to see me there, but there were 3 or 4 each day (housekeeping, mini bar stockers, & supervisors checking that others had done their jobs). It really blew my mind as I had no idea that your hotel room was entered so often by staff.
