Operation: Fat Mum Slim

W

hen I mentioned last week that I was ready to kick my butt to the curb and get set on the path to a healthier me, it made a lot of people come out of the closest. I had comments and emails, and even texts of support. I also had a fair few of you that wanted to jump on the bandwagon and lose weight too.

I thought it would be ‘fun’, or at least motivating to do a little six week challenge. We could check in here each Monday to chat about our weight losses, or goals achieved {for those that don’t want to lose weight but want to get healthier}. We could also set new goals for the week ahead.

Keen? I knew you would be.

And as a reward for all your efforts during the six weeks I will get my Lil Sis Jen, who is the resident butt kicker around here {she’s a qualified Physical Education teacher… so she kicks butt well} to randomly select a participant to win a little package that I’ll put together. She’ll pick the winner at the end of the six weeks. All you have to do to qualify is check in each week. Easy.

So the challenge will start on Monday 31st of August and will finish on October 12th. {which is 3 days before my wedding anniversary… perfect!}

Are you in? Great. Just leave a comment below with your name and your goal{s} for the week.

You don’t have to be a blogger or a Mum, or even Fat. Just exchange any of the words in the title to suit you. Not a Fat Mum Slim. Change it to Operation: Lazy Sod Unlazy… whatever. I need to stop rambling because I’m probably going to confuse the bejeezus out of you all.

Feel free to use the image above if you want to put it on your blog.

My goals for the week ahead are:
♥ Exercise 4 times
♥ Stay away from Diet Coke
♥ Break up with chocolate

Wishing you all the best. xx

  1. love your idea, i started last week, hired myself a treadmill and have said goodbye to coke and chocolate…(it was very sad).
i really need to get abit fitter and find some more energy…
good luck with it all, i look forward to hearing all about your progress….
    love bee xx

ps: did you mean the 5th of september!

  2. I'm in!!!

    First week's goals:

Start going to WW meetings again.
    Exercise 3 times a week * 30 mins
No more Magnums (stupid Gold Class promotion!!!!)

  3. Sounds good and much needed!
I just have to say I LOVE your blog so inspirational! Thank u!

    I am going to…

    * use the treadmill to walk/ run on instead of the kids toy shelf
    * stop drinking red wine until I can devlop non binge like habits
    * eat food to help me reach my goals

  4. I'm in! I totally need this.

My goals for the week is to eat a gluten free breakfast every day this week; and to get up to 30 reps of each exercise I do every day 🙂 (currently i'm on 20).

I'll have to think of what to call it … maybe Operation: Wobble Be Gone

  5. Hmmmmm, I've been breaking up with chocolate, too. Although we're one of those annoying on/off couples. We got back together tonight via pudding…

My current goal is Operation: Night-Owl Mum Early-Bird. 6am is bub's new favourite wake-up time, which doesn't mesh well with my inability to go to bed before midnight!

  6. PS: if you're keeping away from Diet Coke, may I suggest getting hooked on juice (pick a favourite) mixed with fizzy mineral water? I know it sounds like it's straight out of the tuckshop, but it's one of the best drinks in the world 🙂

  7. I gave up Diet Coke on Easter Sunday this year and intended to do so for only 30 days. I just wanted to prove to myself that I wasn't addicted. Then a funny thing happened: a month went by and I didn't really want a soda. I'd occasionally get an urge, but then I got more satisfaction out of NOT having one than I think I would have had out of having one. I still ALMOST get one out of habit sometimes, but I'm still laying off of them and truthfully, the idea of having one right now doesn't appeal to me whatsoever.

    Good luck with your challenge!

  8. An idea like this has been running around my head the past couple of days too – brilliant minds and all that stuff Telle.

    I'm in!
    *don't buy chocolate=don't eat chocolate.
*exercise at MINIMUM 3 times a week
    *drink more water

  9. Hi Chantelle,

I am well on my way on a challenge of my own. Have lost 27 pounds since January. And I feel soooo good! I'd like to lose 5 more and be ready to “Run for the Cure” (my best friend has breast cancer and I need to do SOMETHING) on October 4th. I HAVE ALWAYS HATED RUNNING, but I am slowly learning to like it (and to completely suck at it, too!) I think checking in here will help keep me on track and feeling motivated (it is so easy to slip up, isn't it?)
I like your goals. I need to give up Diet Coke too. I drink waaaay too much of it, and I've just read about how it tricks your body because it tastes sweet and makes you want more (and also, it's bloating!) So, here are my goals:
    – run at least twice
    – work out at the gym at least twice
    – drink lots more water

See you on Monday, Sept. 5th!

  10. Oops, I meant NOT completely suck at it!!!

Also, went shopping for a few back-to-school clothes last night (I'm a teacher) and it was so exciting to buy new clothes in smaller sizes and not to get depressed in the change room. I got some really cute “skinny” jeans, a slim denim skirt, some great sweaters… And they were on sale, too! On my way home, I told myself, “No food tastes as good as that just felt!” I am going to keep reminding myself of that, every time I hear the chocolate calling my name.

    Have a really great week!

  11. Great idea! I'm so in!!

My operation is get back to being in shape/fit before I'm 30 (happens at the end of Oct).

    So my goals are:

    * get back to doing classes (my gym card is a bit dusty!) at least once a week
    * book for the next term of yoga so that I'm forced to go
    * stop eating so many crisps (they're my weakness, not chocolate… which I know makes me weird for a girl!)

So looking forward to this now! Yay to Operation Fat Mum Slim (or Flabby Girl Fit in my case!) 😉

  12. This is so great guys. I must have switched off my brain last night. I could get the dates right! It actually starts tomorrow… the 31st of August.

@Kir: I know I've had a magnum in the past month because of the GOld Class promo. Tsk, tsk. I bloody threw out the wrapper too, which defeats the purpose. You did so well on WW. I hope you find that motivation again.

@Iris: That's a great tip. I actually LOVE water. I just like a diet coke every now and then. I will be using your tip for the first couple of weeks. 😉

@Jumping Off the Binge Wagon: Thank you. I look forward to seeing you more often now. 🙂

    @Tracey: Go Tracey. 🙂

@Jack Shit, Gettin Fit: I can't wait until I'm the same. Soon!

@Jaime: Great minds indeed! Good luck not having chocolate. It's everywhere I look. Argh.

@Erin: Wow. You're amazing. That's so good. do you want to share some photos to inspire us? Please?

@Conversation Pieces: I know plenty of people who are savoury people. It's normal. x

  13. Sure, I'll send you some photos. Just to your regular email address, I presume? Let me get all suited up in my gym clothes and take a few snaps!

Mission begins this Monday then? Excellent!

  14. I'm in. I had a baby 5 months ago and am still carrying 10 kilos extra. I joined weight watchers last Tuesday and the gym.

Operation: lose baby weight (not very original I know) starts…

    Goals for this week:
    * stay within points
    * exercise daily (incidental exercise counts)
    * drink water

  15. Definitely count me in!
If I have to be accountable on your blog as well as mine, it's two ass-kickings if I stuff up! 😉

I signed myself up to Weight Watchers online and am now 2 days into it.

    Operation: Goodbye Fatty Fruit Loop
    Goals for the week:
    – Drink more water
    – Stay within my points
    – Be honest with myself (hardest part)

Good luck everyone! Or maybe good willpower!

  16. Sign me up!

    Operation: Find My Inner Hottie!

I have been so slack lately and starting a new job has made me extra lazy, driving where I should be walking, and buying convenient unhealthy lunches when I should be taking lunch to work with me.

I am looking down at my enormous stomach right now wondering how I got to this size without noticing. Scary.

My goals for the week are:

    Enough with the chocolate already!
    Stop the soy caramel lattes!
Walk to work (minimum) 3 mornings (weather permitting – and this is not a cop out since snow is forecast!!).
    eat breakfast.
Eat vegetables at lunch AND dinner.
And most importantly, focus on the benefits to me of doing all of the above, and remind myself of these when it al feels too hard.

Thank you FMS, you're an inspiration!

  17. The timing of all this is beautiful for me – October 8 marks my son's third birthday, and it has taken me that long to shed all my pregnancy weight. I'm about 4-5kg from goal, so fingers-crossed I can lose those kilos over the next six weeks. 😀

  18. I'm Keane! he he

I've been losing weight and counting points for a week. This 'operation' is perfect for me because if I work hard enough I can be at goal by the end of it!

    My goals for the week:

    * Get back onto the Wii Fit (30 mins a day)
    * Stop letting dieting/weight/being overweight controlling my life
    * Do my measurements (blurgh)

    Thanks Telle xx

  19. I'm in.
October 12th I start my final teaching prac and don't want to feel uncomfortable and lumpy in my pants every day.

    Missions:
Mine are exercise focussed as really can't change food TOO much.

    * Use the wii fit 5 days in the week for 30 minutes a time. This will be what I use to judge loss/improvement by – not accurate but consistent.
    * Use the 30 day shred dvd at least every second day
    * Walk the dog every morning but Wednesday

    * No chocolate, lollies or alcohol Monday to Friday

Ideally would like to drop a few kilos in the 6 weeks. Not going to say how many as then it won't happen.

  20. Count me in too!
    my goals for this week
    *exercise 4 times
*no energy drinks ( I dont drink tea or coffee so kid myself that I need a caffeine hit!)
*another week of no baking biscuits!

Thanks for letting us use your photo too
    🙂

  21. Good luck with your challenge. I've been battling the yo-yo for years. Right now I'm pregnant, and not at all interested in losing weight. However, I do want to give bubs more healthy foods, knowing that I've OD'd on sweets this week… fornight….. oh ok, two months!

Put locks on the cupboard & fridge between 3pm – 6pm
And to stop making every excuse not to exercise

  24. Ok I am in too!

Thanks for the inspiration to start something I have been putting off for too long!

  29. Great minds think alike! I had just written a pledge to myself and my family to live a healthier life.

  31. I would love to join the bandwagon – I need some inspiration to get fit and lose a bit of weight. I'm tired of being tired.
Still haven't decided on my goals for the week – need a bit of thought.

  32. I have three goals for this week:
    – Walk to the ferry rather than catch the bus
    – Pack my lunch or make healthier choices when buying lunch

i will call it 'operation me'. i seem to make sure everyone else eats right and takes vitamins and surfs (hubby) and goes to gymnastics and horseriding (audrey) and i am always too busy to do anything for myself!

in the coming weeks i will add more water and other forms of excersice and maybe even give up coke and / or sweets but lets not get ahead of ourselves… babysteps! this is a good start!

    thanks for inspiring me (again),
    rowe x

    * Make time for my own mini-facial.

  35. Ok so I have just read your operation fat mum slim and I'm keen to do it too even if I am a week late! Is that allowed?
