Northern Rivers & Gold Coast: Where To Dine With A View

Brought to you by American Express Rewards.

I must warn you, this post might make you hungry. I’m hungry just thinking about it. You know this blogging business is hard sometimes. And by hard, I mean delicious.

You may have noticed over the past few months I’ve been working with American Express to share a little about how you can maximise your card to work for you. I have the Platinum Edge Card, and I have to admit before I started working with the American Express team, I didn’t know just how much I could get from my Card {an annual free flight, points to stay in hotels and buy things, and more}. But now I do. Over the past few months I’ve used my hard-earned points to stay in Byron, to go shopping, and now to eat up a storm. To quickly explain how it works, I simply used my card at restaurants that accepted American Express, enjoyed my meal and the view and then logged into my account a few days later and paid for them with points. It’s really easy, and satisfying to pay with points.

I’m sharing where you can dine and enjoy a view on the Coast; particularly the southern Gold Coast and Northern Rivers. Read on at your own risk; you will get hungry.

THE TWEED GALLERY CAFE, MURWILLUMBAH

I’m going to put my hand up here and say that I’m guilty of living in this area for almost 5 years now, and never having visited the Art Gallery once. I’m a lover of art I admit this is a huge crime. So of course I gave myself a talking to when I turned up to the Art Gallery and it was mind-blowingly good. But let’s start at the beginning. The Tweed Regional Gallery is located in Murwillumbah, just half an hour from Tweed. It’s a beautiful drive, with lots of greenery. The cafe was delicious, serving fluffy scones with cream, and shortbread biscuits with Lulu absolutely approved of. And look at that view! So much green.

After morning tea we headed into the gallery for a look, and I fell in love. The artwork is beautiful, and there’s a space where they’ve transported Margaret Olley’s actual house into the gallery. You have to see it to believe. I highly recommend watching the ten minute film they have about it too. It puts it all into perspective. It’s also great for kids, with an interactive area for the kids to get their art on as well.

GET HOOKED, TWEED HEADS

This is our local and favourite fish and chip shop. Sometimes we’ll grab takeaway and head up to Duranbah Headlands to look for whales in the cooler months, otherwise there’s a pier with tables and chairs to eat at while enjoying the river view. The kids grabbed battered fish and chips, and we went a bit fancy and had the seafood platter. It never disappoints. Also, the snapper burger is awesome.

TUPE ALOHA, KIRRA

This place. THIS PLACE! I need to yell it because THIS PLACE. One afternoon I was in the pool with Lacey and my neighbour, and we decided to go out for an impromptu dinner.. and Tupe Aloha was our choice of place. You know I love anything Hawaii, so I knew this place had to be a winner, and it was. We had a few fancy drinks with umbrellas, and then starters {coconut shrimp and salt and pepper squid} and then some mains {best fish taco of my life!}. I highly recommend this spot. I’m salivating writing about it, it’s that good!

KINGSCLIFF HOTEL, KINGSCLIFF

This is a spot that I go to at least once a month, either with Shane, or with the kids, or we meet up with friends and family. The food never disappoints, and the vibe is cool, plus it’s right on the beach. There’s a play area for kids, live music, and a menu to die for. On our last visit I opted for the Vietnamese Chicken Salad, but the Stone & Wood battered chips is equally as good, although not as healthy.

BURLEIGH BAKER, BURLEIGH

I love a good bakery, especially one that specialises in sourdough bread, which Burleigh Baker does. They’ve got delicious pies, bread and so much more. We grabbed two pies {one beef and one chicken} and a beef sandwich. They were all gorgeous. You could easily grab some supplied, and head down the road to the beach and chill out on the grass and take in the divine view.

A big thank you to American Express for working with me over the past few months, and for helping me go on these fun adventures.
