Mother’s Day: What we really want

I’ve been asked a handful over times of the past week, “What do you want for Mother’s Day?”

And each time I’ve struggled to think of a single thing I really want, so I end up saying, “A nice dinner would be great.”

I don’t really want anything. I mean, I want things, but not for Mother’s Day. I’m just happy to have my little family and to be with them on my day. I think Hubby thinks he’s walking into a trap because you know how we can be. When we say nothing, do we mean nothing or do we meant something? This morning I took some time to really think about what I might want and what other mums might want too and put them together {in the graphic above}. I don’t want Hubby to go out and spend a fortune on me {but other mums might feel differently}, I am most looking forward to something that Lacey has been making at Kindy for me, ‘for Mudder’s Day’ she tells me. It’s meant to be a secret but she’s too excited to keep it that way!

Now I just need to sort out what to get my own mum!

Do you have anything to add to the list? What do you really want for Mother’s Day?

I just wanted to say that I know Mother’s Day can be tough for some people, particularly those who have lost their mother or those who are having difficulty conceiving. I just wanted to say that I’m thinking of you at this often hard time.

I’m having a little procedure this week. Nothing major. But it just means that I’ll be away for a few days and things will be quiet around here. See you when I’m back and at it. x

  1. I'm looking forward to a day at an animal farm with my kiddies and extended family. I can't wait for school age kiddies and mothers day markets… seems far away at this stage.

Good luck with your prodeedure, we'll miss you xx

  2. I love this list Chantelle and it covers exactly what I want for mothers day!!!

I hope all goes well for you this week and hope you have a gorgeous “mudders” day on Sunday.xoxo

  3. Same thing I want every year. All my family together, in the one house would be the best gift at all. Won't happen though. Gives me something to dream for next year.

  4. I've also been asked several times by my family, I pinned some items I'd like but in all honesty I want my kids to make me a card and be creative. I want everything on your list. I think that is one of the reasons we celebrate Mother's Day. Not so we could get another item that we can certainly buy another time.

As for your procedure, I wish you a successful one and an easy recovery.

  5. Besides wanting my family together, and seeing my mom and grandma… I am getting a huge canvas picture of my husband and twins. It'll go in my entry way. <3 And, some might say it sucks to know what I'm getting before I get it but... this way I'm getting EXACTLY what I want!

  6. Hope everything is ok 'healthwise' and the procedure goes well.
I love your list of what us Mother's want 🙂 I want some SLEEEEEEP lol.
I also put together a little blog post of 'gift ideas' 2 weeks ago on my blog.
Being a Mum rocks! And I love that we get a day all about us….but yes I feel for those who have lost their Mum or who are trying to become a Mum and fete has other plans! My thoughts are with those!!!
    x

  7. I just want to feel like someone in this house listens THE FIRST TIME I say something! That would be a gift!! 🙂 (said with a cheeky grin)

Honestly, my little ones are under the weather so if they bounced back, that would make my day!!!

  8. I think your list is pretty much spot on…only because I finally got my ipad for Christmas lol. Hopeall goes well with your procedure. Happy Mother's Day xx

  10. Chantelle, you have expressed exactly what I want for Mothers' Day. My family never believe me, because they want to buy gifts (that's how they show their love), but what I REALLY want are all those things in your list, especially the hugs and kisses and me-time. 🙂

I hope your procedure goes smoothly and that we see you back here all happy and healthy soon.

    Happy Mothers' Day!

  11. I love this list – it covers exactly what I want this Mother's Day.
Sure a gift would be great but one of those family days when everyone is well behaved, I don't have to do any housework AND I get a sleep in – now that would be heaven.

  12. I just want something hand made from my 4 year old and a succesful BF from my newborn and some sunshine to enjoy a special day together.

Good luck with your procedure Telle

  13. I love your list. For Mother's Day I would love hugs from my children and a nice lunch or dinner cooked for me.

I hope you recover from your procedure quickly.

  14. Thanks for acknowledging the challenges faced by those of us (particularly mums) who have lost their mum. My mum died four and a half years ago and becoming a mother nearly two years ago has made me miss her that much more. Hugs to all the 'motherless mums' this Sunday.Xx

  15. i know my son as tucked away something he made in shop at highschool … and my daughter will be purchasing some $10 wonder from the School P&C stall. i hear lots of Mums groan when those stalls are mentioned, but i think they are great. your kids get to choose something all by themselves (win), it only costs $10 (Win) and the money goes back to their schools (WIN).

(((hugs))) to everyone for whom Mothers Day is a source of mixed and/or conflicted feelings. remembering this, i feel especially blessed that i was able to have my own children, and that my Mum is still with me. xt

  16. I agree – rather than wanting “stuff” we just want to be made a fuss of. Know that they appreciate all that we do!

Good luck for the procedure and can't wait til you're back!

  17. A perfect list Chantelle and I totally agree, I honestly don't want a gift either, just hugs and cuddles and kisses is enough of a gift and would make me feel like a special Mama 🙂 Hope all goes well with your procedure x

  18. I love that list. I would really love to have all of this every single day! Am I expecting too much ;-))) ?

Hope everything will be ok with you, take care!

    xoxo,

  19. Nice post (:
I can't really describe how I feel about Mothers Day. My mother died 12 years ago, when I was six years old. So on one hand there's this sadness every year on this day. But on the other hand it's always one of these days where I really think about my mother and all the great memories I have.
In fact I'm always more happy and nostalgic on this day than sad. (:

  20. goodluck with your proceedure. I'm the same. I don't want anything. In fact I scheduled a 10k race for that day, for a children's charity. After which I will enjoy a lunch out with my son, husband, mom, dad, brother, grandma. I just want to be with them.

  21. I'm blessed with a fantastic Mom (still here), and a loving grown daughter. I recall with tenderness as she sang, 'When April Showers,' for me in her three-year-old voice. She and Grandma had spent weeks working on the words. That was a perfect moment!

The only thing i think about adding is 'Dark,' to the word, 'Chocolate'! Also, painted fingernails and toes are fun, too.

Hugs to all who who'll be struggling on this day, and blessings to you Chantelle, as you have your procedure. We'll miss you–hurry back!

  22. Heehee, “to go to the toilet alone.” Aint' that the truth…!

Your list is absolutely adorable :] And so universal, I think!

  23. I think you pretty much summed it up. A massage, 8 hours of me time and a card from my little one would make me happy.

Best wishes with your procedure and happy mothers day!

  24. Everything that is on your list! I so want to spend time with my boys, without anyone fighting, lots of laughter, good times and dinner without anyone having to wash up afterwards 🙂

  25. This is the first place I've ever seen motherless daughters thought of around Mother's Day. Thanks Chantelle – it means a lot.
All I want for Mother's Day is a day with my little family and I can't wait to see what Bella's made me at pre-school.
Then in the evening I'm going to go for a drink with my friend who also lost her beautiful mum too soon, so we can have a drink or two and toast them together.
Happy Mother's Day everyone and I hope your procedure goes well xxx

  26. I didn't have any big dreams for Mother's Day, except to be able to spend time with my mamas and with my little one. BUT then I decided to go for it and head off to Sydney for Blogopolis, so I've asked for that dream to come true for Mother's Day AND my birthday (which isn't until November!). I'm so looking forward to it, hubby is supporting me 100%.

Wishing you a wonderful Mother's Day.

  27. Mia was also waaay to excited to keep what they were making at kindy for Mothers Day a surprise! It made me smile. Hoping that your procedure goes well and that you are feeling ok. Sending hugs. Cassie xx

  28. I hope you have a lovely mothers day tomorrow Chantelle and that everything goes smoothly for you this week. Will be thinking of you. xx
