IKEA Sprutt: Style ideas and adventures at IKEA

IKEA Sprutt: Style ideas

Yesterday I went to IKEA. You know when’s a good time to go to Ikea? Not Sunday mornings. Everyone is all about getting their cheap breakfast and storage items. We arrived a few minutes early, because it’s us and we’re always early, so it wasn’t yet opened. Across the entrance to the showroom they had one of those ribbons {the ones they use at flight check-in areas at airports} and people were lined up like they were about to run a marathon.

An announcement came over the system that IKEA was ‘officially’ open and for everyone to have a nice day. Hubby and I stood back and watched, because as well as being continually early, we’re also not stupid. People elbowed their way to the front, because apparently PEOPLE NEED STORAGE IMMEDIATELY, IF NOT SOONER.

Anyway, enough about IKEA on Sunday mornings, and more about my reason for visiting. My Ma moved out, I got my office back {yay!} and I needed a storage solution. A friend on Facebook shared a few photos of a piece that she wanted, and I had to get it because it was perfecto for my office. I got two in fact. It’s the SPRUTT.

IKEA Sprutt: Style ideasIKEA Sprutt: Style ideasI’m a self-professed pro at putting together IKEA furniture. I find it oddly relaxing and calming. {I know, weird}. But this was one of the hardest pieces I’ve had to put together because it does NOT contain EVEN ONE SCREW.

Also, one of mine was missing a whole box of pieces, which makes it even harder. I’ll share photos once I have all the pieces and I’ve spent 70 billion hours styling it to perfection for Instagram. As you do.

The IKEA Sprutt will cost you $149 in cash, 23 hours in putting it together and one marital breakdown if you do it with a partner.

BUT I GOT MY OFFICE STORAGE. And it’s going to be pretty and useful.

Lacey has already started labeling them: homework, plain paper, ten frames {?}, little toys, number something and computers {because we have lots of mini computers that will fit in the drawers}. So stinkin’ cute.

  1. Ooooooh. This might be good in my future lady cave/home office! How big are the drawers – for scale? Like do they hold A4 sheets of paper? Could you use it kind of like a filing cabinet? I am very intrigued – best not tell Mr Unprepared it might be difficult to assemble – he’s my flat pack go to guy haha! x

  2. Oh you do make me laugh – I could just imagine those hoards of shoppers raring to go like it was the Boxing Day sales or something. I think the Sprutt looks absolutely adorable and I’m sure I could put it to good use in my soon-to-be-set-up home office… I just have to start buttering the husband up to put it together for me, cos I ain’t got the time (or skillz) for that! x

  3. Now all I need is an extension so I can have a home office so I can have space for a Sprutt. At least I have a husband who can put it together because I have no patience and lorry load of bad IKEA karma. I can’t wait to see your pictorials xx

  4. Hi Chantelle the cabinet looks very cool. Can’t wait to see how you have styled it. Is there any way you could tell me more or less weight of package. I would love hubby ( mine) to venture out to ikea Tempe buy one and bring it over on the plane to Where we live. Closest ikea would be 10 000 or so km away. It is just one package and metal so I assume it’s heavy? There is no indication of weight anywhere.
    Thanks

  5. Lacey is clever 🙂 Tens frames are literally a frame with ten squares. We use them at school for counting, making ten, practicing 1:1 correspondence.

  6. I originally came across your blog through the photo-a-day challenge that one of my friends was participating in, and posts like this one are the reason I keep following it… I laughed all the way through your post. Thanks for the great reads!

  7. It’s so funny, that people at IKEA Australia act the same way like in Germany… waiting at the entrance to start the marathon through the house. We experienced this once and will never be early again 🙂 The difference is that IKEA Germany doesn’t open on Sundays.

  8. Can you please tell me the exact measurements of the drawers? I’m considering using an undetermined amount of time to buy and put together.
