  1. I love drama and comedy. Love true stories as well. My favourites would be: Little Miss Sunshine, Julie and Julia, Meet The Fockers, Hugo, Miss Potter, Napoleon Dynamite {don’t think you’d like that one}, The Help …

  2. I loved We Bought A Zoo! Such a cute movie.

I only made it through twenty minutes of P.S I Love You – I was crying too much I had to turn it off (mind you I was 8 months pregnant so probably hormonal!).

I don’t have a favourite movie but some of my favourite’s are Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club and 27 Dresses.

  3. HATED We Bought a Zoo! That movie has a quote in it when the father is talking to the son and says “she still thinks the Easter Bunny is real!”. My 7 year old looked at me and cried. Can’t believe they’d put that in a kids movie!!!! duh. Have that movie to thank for ruining my kid’s Easter earlier than we’d like. Made me so hot, had to share my 2 cents w/ you.

Remember Me – it was unpredictable and a tear jerker. I love Drama and Rom Com’s. I loved Jane Eyre. Bridemaids is great for when you need a good laugh!

  4. Steel Magnolias… Beaches… and most recently we rewatched E.T. and I was sobbing. In my defense, I just had a baby so I blame leftover pregnancy hormones. The first two make me cry every time. Every single time.

  5. I can guarantee Marley and Me will use up all your tears for at least the day! Especially for dog lovers like ourselves!! It will make you want to spoil Bronte and let her sleep in the bed! xox

  6. I cried in “up” when it was showing the montage of the elderly couple’s life together!!
also cried in my sisters keeper.
i think “big fish” made me cry too at some point, i cant remember why though!!
my fave movie is definitely Hairspray! Its just so colourful and all dancing and singing livens me up! 🙂

  7. August Rush – a lot of music but beautifully told … and based in NYC … my latest fav is the lucky one from the same writer as the notebook … – the colours they have used in shooting the movie is devine !!!! and The Notebook is a firm fav. Don’t watch PS I love you … if you are sick worse movie to watch … so sad

  8. The Blind Side was good. I would recommend watching Crash or Little Miss Sunshine. I own the DVDs and absolutely love them.

  9. I watched ‘one day’ in the weekend, I enjoyed it, a bit slow but a real tear jerker towards the end (as usual though I preferred the book).

  10. I’d also recommend Remember Me, such a different and heartfelt movie. Crazy/Beautiful is a very touching movie about finding what you really want to and can be. Black Swan is beautiful, dramatic and quite touching, probably one of the best movies I’ve seen in the past few years. Water to the Elephants is next on my “must see” films, I’ve heard so much good about it, I’ll have to get the dvd soon 🙂

  11. Gran Turino with Clint Eastwood. I recommend The Life of David Gale too. Also loved The Pursuit of Happyness – Will Smith drives me nuts but this movie was just awesome!

  12. Are you specifically looking for tear-jerkers? I’ve got two of my absolute favourites, but they are quite old so may be hard to find. But if you can get your hands on them, watch them! ‘Splendor in the Grass’, and ‘Imitation of Life’.

  13. You have to watch “the help” its right on the same route as the movies youve watched~ love it~ laugh, cry, perfect movie!!

  14. “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”. It’s a new release and is definitely beautiful. “Thankyou Happy More Please” was also brilliant, I think I watched it twice while I had it out and it was an overnighter! Both movies that have the capacity to change you, or at the least make you think! x

  15. Green Mile made me ugly cry but that’s so old now … August Rush is good, The Lucky One, Remember Me, My Sisters Keeper, Life is Beautiful, Step Mom, I am Sam. So many good ones 🙂

  16. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is amazing….
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas would make you cry if you’re after another tear jerker!

  17. The Blind side is great! And I loved We Bought A Zoo! I’m a crier! I cry watching Tv, movies, when I get too tired, I cry watching movies I have seen over and over again, and always cry at the same time. I love chick flicks and when I MADE my husband watch The Notebook, he also cried a little.

  18. Soul surfer is a beautiful movie about a young girl who loses her arm in a shark attack while surfing & getting back in the water & on a surf board. Truly moving & inspirational.

  19. The Notebook is one of my all time faves. No matter how many times I watch I cry & cry & cry.I cried in Red Dog, I even cried in Brave ( ridic, I know).

  20. Inception is one of the best recent thinking movies I’ve seen. I also like the Butterfly Effect and Donnie Darko for a bit of a mind bend. The Deep End of the Ocean always makes me cry. I cried reading the book.

  21. “The Blind Side” was SUCH an amazing movie. I bawled. “The Notebook” and “500 Days of Summer” are 2 others that I bawled in. After a breakup last year, I can’t bring myself to watch “500 Days of Summer” again (even though I own it – it’s still in the plastic wrapping!). Oh, and “I Am Sam”. I saw it at the cinema, and I’m positive it was my very first Sean Penn film. 5 minutes in, I broke down. I love Drama/Thriller/Action/Comedy/Sci-Fi films!

  22. Life is Beautiful is the most moving, amazing and absolutely the saddest film I have ever seen. It is the only film that has ever made my husband cry. It’s Italian and I didn’t even notice the subtitles once it got going it is that good! I bawled my eyes out before I became a parent, but am even worse now.
Up and One Day also got me set me off this year.

  23. I loved we bought a zoo it was cute blind side was great too!

My sisters keeper is the biggest tear jerker!
    Pursuit of happiness
“In America” is seriously the sadest movie I’ve ever seen though!!

  24. Yes! The blind side is amazing!
And yeah: Gran Turino as well! MY personal favorite movie this year: Intouchables!
A very beautiful French movie… Maybe you can rent it via iTunes?
    Happy monday
    Jules

  25. I LOVE The Blind Side and Steel Magnolias is an all time favorite but one movie I watched that made me cry and think more than any I have ever seen was The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. if you haven’t seen it YOU MUST!

  26. I love that movie! I love movies in general and have gotten out of the habit of late so Mr & I are making Sat night movie nights now. 😉

  27. I like movies that move me too – I feel the same about books. I think my husband thinks it’s a bit morbid but if it doesn’t get me thinking, I think it was a bit of a waste of time.

I liked the Descendants (good one for crying)
Midnight in Paris & Stranger than Fiction (not crying but good)

  28. Oh yes, My Sisters Keeper…. Took me a while to see that one but I sobbed.
And a different one, Japanese Story (with Toni Collett)… it is a combination of the story, the music and the scenery that makes it beautiful and sad all at once.

  29. I love PS I Love You!! Also watched salmon fishing in the Yemen the other night with Emily blunt and ewan macgregor and loved it!

  30. Oh my goodness! you are a sucker for punishment! Don’t end up getting too sad! you need to throw in some funny ones too! There are some actors that are just so good it doesn’t matter what the genre you will love it, for me that involves Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, Mark Wahlberg, George Clooney, Russel Crowe, Angelina, Denzel Washington, Mel Gibson, Channing tatum- I could go on but my list is diverse and strange!!!!!

  31. My favorite movie of all time is The Color Purple. I watched it in the theater with my mom as a child and was forever changed. I only watch it once a year because that is all I can handle! It will rock you to your core and make you think about life like NO other movie. It’s my number one choice for about 27 years now. Have the tissues ready! And when it’s over you will be crying after the credits are long gone, but no guns, aliens, vampires, or plastic surgery to deal with. 😉 ~ashley

  32. Nothing like a good flick! Be prepared for The Boy in the Striped Pjamas, it shook me to the core having visited Dachau a few years ago. For something a little more uplifting try The Help – it changed my perspective on a few things!

  33. I love movies. Lots of kinds, not just one. Good script, splendid costuming that fits the times of the story, whether it is 1400s or 1980s or present day, era films, true events are amazing, but so are dramas to make you think. How can the bad guy in a story still have you root for him in the end? Just saw Arbitrage. Great film, makes you think.

  34. I love movies that make me cry, such as Sarah’s Key, My Life, and definitely The Notebook. I’m going to think on this throughout the day and give you more suggestions later.

  35. My favorite movie in this genre is Dear Frankie. It’s so touching, poignant, heart-wrenching and beautiful. It’s a sweet little movie from Scotland and it was the first time I had ever seen or heard of Gerard Butler. Hands down his very best role EVER! He’s young, gorgeous and simply brilliant in it…his character is very subtle, quiet, and extremely well-played, the kind of lovely acting/story where you fall in love and swoon and sob and feel an ache in your chest at the end. A must-see if you love that kind of movie experience!

  36. @fatmumslim I know it’s a kids movie, but the Bridge to Terabithia will definitely make you cry. I don’t cry in movies, but this one had me secretly sobbing.

  37. I really love all types of movies, but dramas that make me think and cry, or romantic comedies are my favorite. A couple of my all-time favorites: Dan In Real Life (love movies about crazy big families – it’s hilarious and sweet); City Island (another crazy family movie that really made me laugh).

  38. From your entry, it makes it sound as if you haven’t seen Princess Bride. If you haven’t seen it yet, stop whatever you’re doing THIS INSTANT and go watch it. Sacrilege.

Big Fish makes me cry almost as bad as Schindler’s List. If you haven’t seen Big Fish, it seems to be one of those movies people either really like or really *don’t*. My favourite film, though, is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Recently, my husband and I have been going through the IMDB Top 100 and AFI Top 100 films with the notion of seeing them all. Admittedly, I don’t tend to voluntarily watch movies made before 1970, so it’s a good way of forcing me to get some film history in.

  39. A league of their own, True Lies, Forest Gump, Shall we dance (with Richard Gere), those are some of my favorites..they dont make me cry but they make me feel good, and some parts may make you cry

  40. I’m not sure if anyone has suggested this but ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ I cried from beginning to end, so did my Husband and he’s not a crier. Heartrenching.

  41. I don’t think this blog is for me anymore….I found The Blind Side to be the most racist movie I’ve seen in the last few years, because it honestly depicts black people are being poor, dirty, unable to parent and needing to be saved by white people. Who are of course SO GENEROUS to put up with these black people even though everyone hates them for it. I had a LOT of problems with that. I also haven’t liked a single movie mentioned in the comments. So. Bye-bye this blog I guess?

  42. The Blind Side is one of my most favourite movies ever!!!! Can I recommend 2 others that you might like…Remember The Titans and Glory Road. Both are based on true stories and both are about life in the segrated US.

  43. I Love “PS I love you” – but gee does it make the water works turn on big time 🙂 I have seen a few lately that really make me think deep! Havent seen “The Blind Side” – will have to hire it.
