Grab your cossie: 9 swimwear to splash about in

If I told you to grab your cossie, would you know what I was talking about? Depending on which state you’re from in Australia, you’ll call it a different thing. It could be cossie, tog, swimmers… or perhaps you call it something else. Tell me if you do, because this sort of stuff makes me happy. I don’t know why {small minds?} but it does. I’m talking about swimwear. And seeing as I’m in Hawaii and quickly realising that I am in desperate need of a new cossie/swimmers/togs/swimwear, here’s 9 that I’d happily own and wear…

COSSIE-1
ONE: Esther Williams via ModCloth | TWO: Mosaic Tankini via Nordstrom | THREE: Robyn Lawley via Iconic

COSSIES-2FOUR: Robyn Lawley via Iconic | FIVE: Coral Bandeau via Sequins & Sand | SIX: Pour Moi via ASOS

COSSIES-3SEVEN: Fringe halter via SwimSuitsForAll | EIGHT: Goddess one piece via City Chic | NINE: Pour Moi via ASOS

What do you call swimwear where you live? And which of the above do you like best?

  1. 1, 7 and 8 are all my faves. Which one do you like the best? I think I need another holiday just so I can give them a whirl! We call them cozzies, bathers or if I’m feeling especially formal, “costume.”

  2. Togs where I grew up in Qld, but swimmers sounds right to me too 🙂 Love 2, 3 and 4. I avoid shopping for swimmers at all cost – hate trying them on in those tiny, brightly lit changing rooms and I am never completely sure if it will end in tears! I love the coverage of these. I feel way too self conscious in itty bitty bikinis in public.

  3. Originally from Adelaide I call
Them bathers. Now I’m in Sydney I hear everything from swimmers, costume, swimming costume and cosi!!!!

  4. We call them bathing suits….. I’m in Texas, USA
I really like #2 and #9. Went on a cruise last month
and needed bathing suits……mine are almost a match
    for these.

  5. I quite like #2 and #8 ….#3 too if I had the body to suit! ! Swimmers here in Newcastle NSW. But I’m familiar with all terms! !

  6. 3, 4 & 8 are my favs. As a child in Qld we called them togs, but moved to Vic when I was 10 and have called them bathers ever since (now 34).

  7. My husband is originally from South Africa, and the first time we took a short holiday together, he said he was going to go change into his costume. I’m born and raised in the good old USA, and the thought of someone traveling with a costume in their luggage had me rather perplexed. So I asked, “You brought a costume? Superman or Batman?” Now he was the one with the puzzled look on his face. He proceeded to explain what he meant, and added that it is called “cossie” for short. Still makes me giggle! I’ve always called it a swimsuit.

  8. 7 is my favourite. The fringing makes it a bit different, but the black plays it safe for hiding a Mummy tummy.

  9. Love #3, 4 and 7! I am in NZ and call them togs. I have such massive boobs so finding swimwear (apparently I call them that too!) that fits them is so hard. I tried on a size 18 suit recently, which was massive everywhere else and STILL too small for my blimen boobs. So if anybody knows of anywhere great for someone like me, that’d be wonderful 😀
