Friends And Fashion.

Today

we’re off to spend time with good friends, by the beach. Hubby might go for a surf, Lacey will play with a friend and I’ll get to chat and catch up with my girlfriend.

My girlfriend and I share many things in common, but one is a love of Marc Jacobs goodies. So today I am sharing my goodies that I found under the Christmas tree {thanks Big Sis}. Here is my new handbag and my purse.

The bag is perfect for me {and boy does it smell so special!}. It has a pocket inside that’s perfect for a magazine, and pockets on the outside so I can quickly find my phone, keys, gum, money, hair tie, nappy… oh I could go on and on and on.

My one problem is that both of these beautiful pieces are sitting snuggly in their protective bags, inside their boxes. I’m too scared to use them yet….

*Oh, and yes that is tape on the table. We devised a little homemade childproofing thingy. The underneath of our table has the sharpest metal strips so we covered them with little towels, and packing tape. Soooooo stylish! It’s the new black.

Are you the sort of person who likes to keep things for a special occasion, or do you use all your good things straight away?

  1. Use and enjoy, I say! Life is too short.

My sister bought my Mum a beautiful teacup set for her 80th birthday a couple of years ago (something fancy – can't remember what now) and she won't use it! “Oh, it's too good,” she says. No, no, no. Go on and use them now and ENJOY! They were made to be loved. In person.

And kudos to sis on such a great gift!

  2. I am a person that wants to save them… but I use them right away.

Mom on the other hand… she saves everything for later, and doesn't want to mess things up. I bought her some adorably cute homemade kitchen linens for Christmas, and she won't use them. “Oh they are too cute, I don't want to mess them up” sigh.

  3. Use, use use! I can guarantee, as a lover of Mr Jacobs myself, that the leather will just become better and more buttery with use (provided you look after it!). It's too beautiful not to use.

  4. That bag is amazing!! I love handbags that have a million pockets and secret compartments- makes life so much easier.

And as for the tape on the table edges? My parents used to do exactly the same thing when I was a wee one….

  5. I definitely believe in using the things you love.

I used to keep my treasured football guernsey that was signed by the whole team for my 21st hanging in my wardrobe. Until I watched a very inspirational episode of Oprah where a man who was dying basically said 'what is the point of that?' and I've worn it to every game I go to since. No point hiding it away since I love it so much.

(someone else might be able to reference that man better than me lol)

  6. That is a BEAUTIFUL bag!

I use everything straight away (or maybe I just haven't got anything good enough to worry about?!). I made a mosaic outdoor pot for my Mum once, but she still keeps it inside because it's “too good to put outside”. Sigh.

  7. Use, use, use all the way!

My very first pair of Manolos, which I was soooo excited to buy, are totally trashed now because I wore them at every possible opportunity.

Beautiful things become even more beautiful once you have worn them in – then they become uniquely yours, rather than the same as every other “special” one out there.

  8. Oooo the pics of your MJ goodies finally!

I love the second silver clutch!

I try to say that I use everything right away (so that it works out to a lower cost per use) but I tend to only use the more special items on special occasions.

  9. Depending what I buy.
with shoes I use right away (like I wear them out the shop)
With bags I tend to love them for a while & then start to use them
but with clothes that are to pretty to stain with paint I keep for special occasions.

My mother she says “any day could be your last so just use it”. Yet she still has things for special occasions.

  10. I used to be a save-it-for-later kind of girl, but as I get older, I'm realizing life is too short!

Love love love the bag. 🙂

    Happy 2010!

  11. How funny, we have tape on our furniture too to stop Robert opening cabinet doors and we've covered the gas connector thing with bubble wrap and tape in case he fell on it.

I agree with what everyone else has said, you should just use them. They are beautiful.
