Feeling Fat.

Yesterday I was reading Mia’s Blog. She referred to an article written by Francesca Newby.

It was brilliant. Brilliantly sad. I connected with every word. I felt like she’d stolen all the feelings from my head and written them down. It was strangely comforting to know that someone else felt the same way I did. Someone else lived every day taunted by their inner most thoughts of feeling fat. Living fat.

This paragraph had me nodding away:

This is the heartbreaking, life-sapping crux of the matter, the sheer
emotional waste, the relentless anxiety and self-absorption. Oh, and my
constant companion: guilt. At what I eat, when I eat, why I eat, sometimes even that I eat. There’s a voice in your head, in your ear, at your back, hissing through the greatest-hits compilation of every taunt you’ve ever heard, and the ones you haven’t. You can dim it but you can’t turn it off; your own little bully travels with you.

If you’re fat, feeling fat or never even had a fat moment in your life. Read the article. It’s a great insight into how many of us feel. It’s not pretty, but neither is feeling fat. xx

  1. Thanks for the link Chantelle, that little quote is spot on for me! I have been reading through your older posts and am really enjoying what you have to say about weight loss and everything else. I need to get my bum in to gear and start getting fit, so thanks for the insights you offer here!

  2. Penny – Unfortunately you are. 😉

Danielle – Yes, I am. I had lots of people asking me to return so I gave in. Plus I love it, so it wasn’t hard for them to get me to come around.

Cherry – Welcome to my blog. Enjoy. x

Danielle – The comments on Mia’s blog upset me a little. I guess not everyone gets it, and that’s probably a pretty nice place to be. Ignorance is bliss, perhaps?

  3. Oh tell me about it! This lady writes like an absolute dream, even if the subject matter is very close. She is so apt, precise, and exact. There is comfort in the knowledge that it’s not only me who has felt like this, and that those feelings aren’t so separate and isolated from other people’s experience/s.

Has she written anything else? I would certainly be interested in reading more of her thoughts 🙂

  4. Verity – I just purchased a book called Maternity – Tales of Motherhood. I will let you know what it’s like.

NLK – How are you!? Nice to see you. x

  5. Thanks for posting this. It’s a good insight into the life of someone not happy with their body. I’m glad that I didn’t read the comments. Unless you go through it then you just dont get it, do you?
