Exciting news!

lunch

It’s been a while since I’ve had an exciting announcement to share, and today I’m pretty darn excited to be sharing this one.

OK, so things you should know about me. I love photography {der!}, I love food {double der!}, and I love meeting my readers {triple der!}. I love those three things, A LOT. And when they come together, well that’s a moment of awesomeness right there.

Next month, August 22nd to be precise, that moment of awesomeness will be happening. Olympus and myself will be getting together to host a reader photography workshop. We hosted three last events year, and they were the best fun I’ve had blogging. Seriously. This time it’s going to be a little bit different. First let me show you where it’s going to take place…

grounds

The Grounds of Alexandria! I have heard so much about this place, and seen so many beautiful photos on Instagram… I’m so super keen to experience it for myself. We’ll have grazing plates throughout the workshop so you can eat, learn photography and chat, and snap photos of the food {because did it really happen if you didn’t take a photo of it?}.

And also, because we like to mix things up and have a little fun, we’re inviting 15 readers and we want you to each bring a child too {preferably your own!}. This year I bought Lacey her first camera, and I’ve loved watching her explore photography, and I think it would be awesome for you to share that with your kidlet as well. I love that I’m passing down my passion on to her, and I’d love to see that happening in the room on this special day. So the kids are invited to come and share the photography love. This is about them and us, and passion and having fun with photography. We’ll have a table of kid-friendly food, and cameras for you and the kids to use and explore with too.

Then to put the cherry on top of this very delicious day, not only will myself and Olympus be hosting the event, but the very inspiring and talented Rachel Devine will be hosting it alongside us. Her brain is full of all the things that we need to know. Honestly, Rachel is brilliant at teaching photography and sharing tips, that you’re going to walk away excited and inspired and a better photographer. You will. And the kids will too.

 So will you join us?

When: Saturday August 22nd
Where: The Grounds of Alexandria, Sydney
Time: 11am – 2pm
Hosted by Olympus, myself and Rachel Devine
Who: You and your child

Olympus will supply the cameras, so don’t worry if you don’t own one. They’ll also be giving you a lovely goody bag to take home too.

So let’s learn photography together, and pass the photography addiction on to our kidlets! Let me know if you’d like to come along! I’ve got 30 seats to fill {15 adults, and 15 children} and I love for you to be filling one. To grab a seat, just leave a comment below answering this question: What’s your favourite thing to do with your kid/s? Why?

A super big thanks to Olympus for making this fun stuff happen. This year, as I was last year, I’m their ambassador. You can read more about my relationship with them here.

Expressions of interest will close 10th August, 2015. Guests will need to cover their own transport to and from the workshop. I will email all successful attendees promptly, after the closing date.

  1. Wow what an exciting opportunity!

The favourite thing I like to do with my kids (5, twins 3 and 8 months) is to snuggle up in my bed in our PJ’s and watch a family favourite DVD like the Croods. I love hearing them laugh, say out loud their favourite lines and sing along to the songs. Afterwards, I also love watching them sleep and count my blessings because sometimes I can forget when they are fighting with each other or throwing a tantrum.

  2. Come to Melbourne next time please ☺️ I would still have to travel 3 hours, but I would do it to be involved! Your photo a day has made me a better photographer, and I get so excited about the new list each week! I hope you all have a fabulous time ☺️

  3. This is amazing!! I love going for walks around our neighbourhood with my kids. Quality time with them is always high on my list. We often grab the scooters and bikes and head off! Usually ending up at a playground. I also love just hanging out with them at our local cafe. Chatting with them about their favourite things.

  4. This sounds so amazing Chantelle! I love doing anything and everything with my girls but I think my favourite thing is to travel with them and explore new places together. They’ve watched me taking photos everywhere we’ve been for their whole lives and my love of photography has worn off on them I think! My youngest is in New York at the moment and the photos she’s posting are really impressive 🙂
I’d love to take one of them with me to Sydney and participate in this event with you….they’re not “kidlets” any more though…they’re young ladies (late teens). They’re still my babies though so hopefully still eligible to participate? 😉 xx

      • Gah Chantelle…..as of today I’m going to have to withdraw from this competition 🙁 I received an invitation to a good friend’s 50th birthday party that same weekend, and I live in Brisbane so I can’t do both. I would’ve loved to have been considered, and would have flown to Sydney with my daughter to make a weekend of it if we were chosen, but c’est la vie!
I hope you all have a wonderful time 🙂 xx

  5. I love snuggles with my boys, why? Well they are such busy little kids, into everything, trying out and testing the world around them and I love (LOVE) that moment when they stop and snuggle and we’re all completely incase in a warm snuggly cuddle. Then half a second later they are off at exploring the world again!

  6. Our favourite thing to at our house is making memories need a little help when it comes to capturing thise memories we love taking photos at our house although we tend to have more unusable ones (thank goodness for digital) as Ive never taken a photography course so its more miss than hit 😉 my 2 older girls both have the fms app on their ipad minis but if I had to choose one child out of the five I would say that my 11 Yr old Caitlin would be the most enthusiastic and creative with her photo taking I think because she thinks outside the box I would love the chance to improve on my photography skills for our own memory preservations and I am looking at getting my sewing off the ground as more than a hobby and photograpy makes a huge difference in interest; and would love to spend the day bonding with Caitlin over something we both have interest in before she heads of to high school next year.

  7. Our favourite thing to do is explore the world around us . When we go anywhere hubby has his camera, I have my phone and compact, and the kids use my old compact and old iPhone

  8. My Favorite thing to do with my 3 teenage girls (13&14) is being with them every single day!! But truly my fav thing is to snuggle up on the lounge and yarn and watch movies. Having conversations with my girls can be the funniest moments of our lives they have such amazing and cheeky sence of humours !! Love being their mum x

  9. I would love to join you for the workshop and bring my daughter along to learn about photography from a professional! My daughter is 13 and one of my favourite things to do with her is explore nature! My son is 16 but it was my daughter who loved going outside and exploring and playing with dirt, sticks and bugs etc. when she was younger. Through my daughter I learnt to appreciate how cute slugs and snails can be! and baby praying mantis’ and big praying mantis’ and ciccadas and spiders who carry their cute baby spiders on their back (sorry if you don’t like spiders 😉 ) and lots of other things! and of course trying to get a good photo of them, battling low light and the fact that they move and jump! ps. I’m glad you thought of food appropriate for the kids. She is a bit fussy 😉

  10. Hi i have a five year old daughter who loves photography, just wondering what sort of camera you got Lacey, as we have had a couple of cheapies that just break after a few days?

  11. My favourite thing to do with my kids is travel. I am excited to share that love with them.
When my youngest was 10yrs old we took him to the Cook Islands, he had his birthday at home and then on the plane the Captain announced we had crossed the Date Line and made everyone sing him ‘Happy Birthday’, he got two birthdays to reach double numbers!
In Rarotonga, he picked up the language and spoke to the Bus Driver who thought he went to school there because he spoke so well, he learnt to snorkel and at least tried a bite of new foods! Later in that year we did a two month camping trip seeing half of Australia and he had our old camera and took some awesome photos… it was great to see what he thought was photo worthy was much different than what I or my husband saw, he got some awesome photos, especially of Uluru out the helicopter window and in a bit over a month we leave for a two month camping in tents trip over to Western Australia where he will have use of the camera again. I am training him young to see and document new and exciting things!
This morning before he left for school we were out taking photos of the Ice and frost in the front yard! He is now 13 and would love to go to Sydney and do this day of adventure!!

  12. Baking delicious sweet goods is my all-time favourite thing to do with my daughter. We have laughed standing side by side covering ourselves in flour and sugar since she was a little toddler. Now she is a wonderful 7 y.o. and has the ability to read the recipes, measure the ingredients and crack the eggs (sometimes with a bit of shell and sometimes with ALOT!!). It’s a great joy watching her grow and to know she is still excited to bake with Mummy.
Bonus: getting to eat the sweet treats at the end with a tea/milo party 🙂

  13. My favourite thing to do with my baby Audrey (8 weeks) is to get out and about, exploring and experiencing old things and new things. This is even better when we get to share these moments with our family and friends who love and care for her so much 🙂

  14. My favourite thing to do is to cuddle my little girl. She is growing so fast, and I never want her to get too old for a cuddle with mum. I want to cuddle her forever.

  15. I love being able to see my eldest son (almost 5) finally accomplish something that he’s been working so hard to do, it could be something as simple as getting his kite up in the air and flying it by himself or finishing a drawing and then filling me in on all the details. I’d love for him to learn about photography so then he can share in something that I love doing too!

  16. I love walking and traveling with my 7 year old son. Walking anywhere, through cities or national parks. I love watching him soaking it all in.

  17. My favourite thing to do with my children; with my oldest it is art, he spends anytime free time he gets or any recycling into another piece of art, with my middle child she loves playing kitchens or doing my hair or with the camera I got her for Christmas or posing for photos I take… and my littlest I just enjoy watching him explore everything

  18. How exciting! What a great opportunity. After being diagnosed with cancer about two years ago I started putting my health and myself higher on my priority list. I started running, I seriously hadn’t run since I was made to in high school! I now love it, the fresh air, the beautiful scenery and the feeling of being strong and free. My eldest is a great runner and I love when we go out and run together. I am proud that I am finally providing a good example of being fit and healthy and strong. And we can do something together out in the fresh air away from all technology and distractions. Just her and I. They really are special times. We are going to do some fun runs together later in the year, can’t wait!

  19. Oh gosh this would be wonderful!!! Fave thing to do with our 3 kiddies, hands down to travel the globe! We’re very thankful that we have the opportunity & means to take our kids traveling. My mum, dad, sister and lots of our besties live in the UK and OS so we LOVE to travel whenever we can to see them all and most importantly spend QUALITY time with the kids. Good for the mind & soul in my opinion. Some of our best memories as a young family (and mine as a child) are made while traveling. Either overseas or simply local day trips. We love family adventures. Simple things are also right up there… baking, crafting, jumping on the trampoline, bike riding, beach-dwelling, monopoly-playing!! My little miss Maya (5) would LOVE this as i’m a photographer myself and i’d love to let her loose with her own camera (we plan to get her one for her b’day this year… may i ask what you bought lacey?). Great idea Chantelle, would love to be a part of it. Keep up the awesomeness (sorry, epic comment!!) xx

  20. My son is a bit small (1) but my niece who is 3 loves my camera and is very curious about it and would love to learn (as would I) 🙂

  21. My favourite thing to do with my kids is make a mess. Firstly, it’s because it’s something that I’m quite good at 🙂 but I really want them to experiment, and fail, and create something unique, and something that doesn’t work and something that sounds a little bit crazy. I want them to feel like they can have a go at ANYTHING, and you can’t do that on a tidy desk!

  22. Loving spending time outdoors with my kids. Whether its on the beach, or hiking in the bush, or in the local park; whether the season is summer or winter, we LOVE it. We’re experimenting with my very old (retro) ‘point and click’ camera at the moment which the kids are absolutely loving! This would be an amazing opportunity for one of them, and me. Thanks for considering us and keep up the amazing work you do…xx

  23. Alright so without trying to sound like a complete brown noser [laughs!], my kids actually love helping out with Photo-a-Day. We talk about the prompt over brekkie {we hear the peep come through on the Little Moments App at 8am}. They brainstorm capture-ideas with me and LOVE if their suggestion is the shot I end up taking and hash-tagging. And you know what? Kids have the BEST ideas! I have 4 children, but I would chose my eldest, Bridie {almost 9} to come. A photo I took of her made the Fab Four and it boosted her self-esteem greatly {mine too but lets make it about her!}. Another thing Bridie and I both love is Netball. I coach her team and it has been excellent bonding for us. Even the drive to and from the games {just her and I} are some of the best conversations of my life. Choose us! We are fun and you are on my “Must-Hug-Before-I-Die” list. 🙂

  24. What a brilliant experience those 15 parents and 15 kids are going to have. I have no doubt that at least one of the kids will have a fire lit inside them and become a photographer in the future. Another Awesome event FMS and Olympus.

  25. Oh this would be such an amazing opportunity! I love to go to the beach, cook and of course take photos of and with my kids! My 8 year old daughter is absolutely loving taking photos at the moment and I’ve started a new instagram page to help her with this awesome hobby (a future fms a dayer)! Photos through the eyes of littlies is wonderful…

  26. Oh this sounds wonderful!! My Miss 7 would be there in a flash. She seems so grown up when I let her use my Olympus. She knows how important it is to me and loves that I trust her with it. Right now I would have to say my favourite thing to do with her is anything that boosts her confidence. It breaks my heart to hear her say she’s not good at X, or Y is too hard for her, before she has even tried. She has just started at a new school that I think will be a better fit for her. But for now, whatever I can do to help her with the stuff she finds hard, and to be her cheer squad when she tries and tries and succeeds are my favourite shared moments.

  27. To laugh and share adventures whatever and where ever we may be everyday – playing chess, baking brownies licking the spoon and dotting our noses, silly selfies and of course boys playing pranks on me.

  28. My favourite thing to do with my daughter right now is read – we are working our way through The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton which is a favourite from my childhood. I get to snuggle up with her for at least a few quiet minutes every day, smell her hair, enjoy the story and watch as her eyes light up with the possibilities that an active and creative imagination can bring.

  29. We have lots of “love” moments in our family, but at the moment i think we all love the simplicity of riding to school together. Even when it’s chilly and frosty outside in the morning the kids happily jump on their bikes and we ride.
It’s the little bit of quiet in our busy day that allows us to have a chat and get some fresh air before school, homework, dinner rush, showers and reading.
Enjoying the simplicity of it ❤

  30. Oh, wow!! I love spending mummy-time with my 2-year-old and letting her take the lead on neighbourhood rambles. It’s so much fun watching her discover her world. I often think how amazing it would be to see things through her eyes and would love to share my love of photography with her!

  31. My favourite thing to do with my little 5yr old girl is create. Whether it is a mess in the garden, an artistic masterpiece at the kitchen table or an awkward dance in the lounge room, I love watching her think, explore and discover the world around her. She has an amazing, crazy mind and I can’t believe I am (partially) responsible for creating her.

  32. I have three girls & our favourite thing to do together is have a ‘dance-off’. Usually at around 6pm, after dinner when my girls seem to have their last energy surge! None of us are particularly coordinated but we love to dance. The music is turned up to its max and we all bring our best moves to the (living room) floor. Think moonwalking, break dancing, daggy daggy dancing & the robot to name a few. My daughter showed me her Krumping the other night, hilarious!

  33. Baking a cake! We have a laugh when we can’t remember how much and of what ingredient we have already put in, mix with my grandmas old hand mix, wait in anticipation to see if our concoction is going to survive the oven , and finally breathe with the relief when they do , then decorate until no more can possibly fit 🙂 then eat!

  34. Yippee! This will be an amazing opportunity so I’m totally in if you’ll have me. My favourite thing to do with my kids is take a ferry ride. We love the water, we love the spirit of adventure, we love that ice cream is generally involved at the destination. It’s our favourite. x

  35. Hitting he road with our 5 and 8 year old for a day trip or overnighter and discovering somewhere new. We finally made it up to the Barrington Tops last week and took in that big country sky and those stunning mountain ranges. The boys love getting out of town as much as we do and we love to watch their tightly coiled springs unwind and see them really relax. I feel like it’s when we really see “them” and it’s beautiful 🙂

  36. Oh I would love to, but living in Melbourne, Alex is a little bit too far away. 🙁
I’m selling up my Nikon and moving toward the Olympus, can not wait. Probably one of my all time fav things to do is camping. Escaping everything, the adventure, the togetherness, just can’t be beat.

  37. We love bush walking. We love exploring our national parks, rain forests, beaches and mountains. As well as connecting with nature, it allows us to connect with one another. Talk and giggle, discover new plants and animals and lookouts, or simply walk in silence and enjoy some quiet time. It’s our happy place.

  38. One of my favourite things is going on a coffee date, and my 16yr old daughter is used to me taking a photo or 2 of my coffee! She also loooves photography! We live in Melbourne but how lovely it would be to spoil her with a coffee date in Sydney, and to share with you and Olympus! Fabulous!!!

  39. I take what I can get – back yard, in the car, walk to the letterbox, brushing my teeth. Got to go, she’s here.

  40. Our kids are at a great age right now (5 & 8) so we’re really enjoying getting outdoors and doing things we can ALL participate in. Last year we did the Junior Stampede which was a whole lot of muddy fun (highly recommend it!) but I think my favourite thing to do would be going for a paddle in our kayaks. Our 5 year old was finally big enough to get his own kayak at Christmas (and not have to be a passenger in Daddy’s) and seeing the joy on his face the first time he took it out was amazing. “I’m doing it mum! I’m really really doing it!” Now they all leave poor mum struggling to keep up, haha.
My daughter has a camera at the top of her wish list this year so I think this would be a fun experience for her 🙂

  41. My daughter and I love doing acrobatics together although she’s much better than I. Also we love having dance off’s to our (my) favourite songs. The most fun so far was Michael Jackson thriller!

  42. Me: coffee – latte
    Josh: babycino
    us: the park
Enjoy our coffee date, take some photos and have play 🙂

  43. It sounds cheesy, but our nightly dinner tradition is for each family member to nominate & talk about their favourite part of the day. My girls are young, but I love the joy they get from sharing their precious moments with us and it encourages us all to find the positive in everyday.

  44. How fantastic! You have organized such a great day out. My favorite thing to do with my 3 girls is to head down to the beach, walk up to the lighthouse and buy milkshakes afterwards! Sweet family time is so precious.

  45. We love to sing!! FYI not very good but it connects us to the right now moment, which can be forgotten so easily. XO

  46. My fave thing to do with my kids is to get outside and explore our garden, the beach, the park, the bush, anywhere in nature where we can find treasures to add to our “collections” take photos and just get a bit dirty.

  47. My favourite thing to do with my oldest (5 years) is to go on treasure hunts! We have a list of things to find, and instead of collecting them, he takes photos to add to his album… It works especially well on long car trips, stops the constant “are we there yet?” Might need to get him a drop proof/waterproof camera for Christmas (he dropped my little camera on our last adventure!)

  48. I love swimming with Lovisa! its when I feel my best and she is a fish. win win. Swimming in my pool that is.. no ocean for a while! xxx

  49. My favourite thing to do with my children is spending time with then doing what ever we can at the time, my children are 5,8,15,18 so they all like to do some thing different , from shopping to baking to singing and dancing in the lounge room…

  50. This sounds fantastic what a fun getaway too. Our ‘kid’ just turned one and it’s like another world has opened up to explore. Im loving just hanging out with him as he discovers all these new things in life, aeroplanes, birds, shadows, buses, his own singing voice, tastes and texture of new foods. It’s all so new and intriguing.

  51. Oh how fun! My DD and I share a love of being creative together, whether it is scrapbooking, taking photos, cooking in the kitchen and enjoying what we’ve made or just some DIY at home. I would sooooo live to join you at The Grounds x

  52. We love to go to the Park… Penelope has a mean sense of adventure and even though she’s not yet two, can be found running, climbing and swinging off things you’d expect someone much older to be swimming from! Olive has found joy in playing with and nurturing Penelope’s sense of adventure. I love to watch them and take pictures of the little monkeys as they play…

I’d love to join you and Rachel Devine at what is (lets be honest) one of Sydney’s best cafes for a workshop with Olympus! And Olive (almost 7) would absolutely love the chance to meet new kids, and tae pictures of her own 🙂

  53. My kids and I love nothing more than a lazy breakfast, a story book and a giggle at something rude my 4 yo says… which is pretty much every second sentence these days hahaha. The fact that we aren’t having to run to daycare and work and we can just be together makes us all happy.

  54. We love our weekly trips to the art gallery! My kids are 5 and 2, and both love arts and crafts. We do a hour long class full of messy fun.. Drawing, painting whatever takes our fancy!.. morning tea milkshakes and cupcakes then followed by a walk.. Well.. Run really!.. around the gallery. We love it! If you every get the chance check out Maitland regional art gallery 😉

  55. This looks fantastic! My son (nearly 7) and I love going out to take photos together. We bought him an Olympus Tough camera for his birthday last year, and he now looks outside and tells me ‘The light’s good Mum, let’s go and take photos’. He’s also discussing dismantling his telescope so he can have a tripod of his own! My daughter (3) tries to join in with her Minnie Mouse camera, and I know it won’t be long until she’s begging for a real camera of her own. I’m so glad I can share one of my interests with my son. It gives us something in common, and a hobby he can continue to improve as he gets older.

  56. My girl is 8 and my favourite part of the day is when she gets into bed and we lay down together and talk about our days. She shares good things and not so good things and we work through solutions to any issues she may be having at school with social groups, and then we each choose our best part of the day. I get to learn about what she’s done that day, what’s important to her at the moment, and I share with her what I’ve been doing at home with her little brother (4mths old). Especially with a new baby it’s an important way to still spend some soecial time together!

  57. Wow, this sounds AH-MAZING!

Our favourite things to do together are to cook up a storm in the kitchen together or just go silly tickling and teasing each other on a Sunday morning. That’s true love in our house <3

  58. Oh Chantelle this would rate even higher than scoring tickets to Oprah !!!!

Life with 5 children, school, activities, sports….it is just crazy busy beyond anything I could ever have imagined!!!! So I love to have one on one mummy/daughter days with each of my girls throughout the year…..and I try to tailor it to things that each particular daughter is interested in…so miss 17 and I have been to a shabby chic workshop, miss 16 and I have been to an art class, miss 14 and I went shopping (that girl loves shopping!!) etc.. etc..

I’d love to make this workshop one of my mummy/daughter days…probably with miss 17 as she has a real passion for photography and the way that she see things and photographs them is amazing. Year 12, high school, friends….it can all suck a bit sometimes so I’d love miss 17 to get the chance to leave that all behind for a day and come along to this workshop with like minded people and have the chance to learn to improve her photography skills with some amazing Olympus equipment and some amazing and inspiring people (yourself included)…..and then she can show me how to do it all when we get home lol !!!!

  59. I have many obvious fav things I like doing with my kids. One precious one at them kms t is writing love msg to each other. Miss T started school this year so she is learning to read and write. Her little notes my my heart. And her eyes light up when she reads mine. Xx

  60. My fav thing to do with my boys (11&9) is simply being with them and watching how they see the world, through their eyes. I learn so much through them and the way they look at the world. I think they teach me more than I do them. I can honestly say that spending time with my boys is my fav. thing to do. Passing on my love of photography to them is something that I treasure. I want to teach them to capture a moment as well as living it! What a great way to spend a day!

  61. Hmmmm I’d say that my favorite thing to do is cook with my son, it sounds ridiculous as he’s 15 months but we have the “tower” (i think it’s called learning tower) and he stands next to me and passes me all the veggies, with bite marks on them, his quality control mark, and we talk and describe all the things we make and bang his mini pots and pans and we dance while the food is cooking. I love how fascinating it all is to kids so really i could write on about it all heheh
I would love to have a chance to meet you and your wonderful readers so fingers crossed!

  62. Oh Chantelle this would rate even higher than scoring tickets to Oprah !!!!

  63. My favourite thing …. The end of a long day, darkness is falling, yawns are starting and it’s bedtime. With the lights out and in between much convincing of eyes shut for slumber, my beautiful little girl slowly starts to download all the detail of her day – the climbing and swings, monsters and fairies, her love for Mummy, Daddy and Bubba – and then slowly drifts off to sleep. So magical.

  64. Listening. It’s so easy to do that we sometimes forget to do it properly. I love to listen, to hear how he views the world, how he feels and expresses his emotions, how he tells his own story… which is of course, magical.

  65. I am so excited to share my love and passion for photography with your readers!!!! I can’t wait!!!!

  66. I love to dance and sing and be silly with my girls (6 & 3) but my most favourite thing in the world is to snuggle with them – that’s what makes me feel whole, and that everything is right with the world. Xxx

  67. My favourite thing to do with my kids is go to the park & playground, and explore what has washed up on the river, and collect things for our nature table, then go back to the playground and watch them learn new skills – Eli is just learning how to climb those rope ladders, and I get so excited for him when he manages to do a step by himself!

  68. I love to go feed the ducks with my girls. We explore the gardens, look at the flowers/spider webs, run, laugh at some point we feed the ducks. Then mummy gets a coffee the girls a fancy cookie and popper and I watch them in the playground play together happily

  69. My favorite thing to do with my kids is go on beach adventures. With ages 11y -7months, this is something that they all enjoy. They run and squeal and swim and I walk peacefully along with them. Living in Canberra, this only happens a couple of times a year – so it’s extra special. Grateful for coastal days.

  70. We love to put our favourite songs on as loud as we like (loud enough for the neighbours to enjoy as well), and just go nuts. Let it all out. Go crazy. It’s the best fun we have together.

  71. My favourite thing to do with my kids is to share new experiences with them; nothing beats that look of pure awe and their self pride in mastering something new.

  72. Oh my goodness what an amazing opportunity. You will just love love love The Grounds (the coffee is particularly good too). My fav thing to do with my kids is baking. I have always enjoyed baking and I find its the one thing I can do with all three of my kids at the same time. We all get stuck in and have fun and no one is fighting. It can get messy (very messy) but its lots of fun and surprisingly relaxing. Best bit is we all get to eat our creations at the end 🙂

  73. I was lucky to spend a week alone with my eldest son, who is 9, over the school holidays. His brother was lapping up 1 on 1 time with his nanna is Brissy, and Austin and I got to spend some serious 1 on 1 time in Sydney. My little boy has been a mummy’s boy from day one, and this week made me realise how much of my time he demands from me, at his brother’s expense! So, at the moment, I am loving reconnecting with my eldest boy, watching him play footy (his most favourite thing to do in the world) and just having grown-up chats with him (that I am not really ready for!). He loves taking photos, and has decided that our old DSLR should be his, so this workshop would be right up his ally!

  74. We love to be silly, sing and dance but mostly just be happy and laugh. With my miss ten we love Mummy and Daughter time and in which case we go out and explore the world together and capture life’s amazing moments.

  75. Just spending time chatting and playing. I’m a working mum and from the time she was born my philosophy has been it can all wait but she can’t so we enjoy the little things together last weeks highlight ballet in the front yard – me not her of course! She’s two but very good at giving directions 🙂

  76. Miss 7yo and I have a little hardcover journal that we write in to each other. Sometimes we write questions to each other. She asks me questions about what games I played when I was a child or what I wanted to be when I grow up and I ask her things that will be fun to look back on like her favourite song, movie or food. Other times I write her messages about something she did that I am proud of or some little kindness she did that I noticed. Sometimes she writes about things that worry her. It is fun and I hope we do it for years and can look back on it when she is older.

  77. I know it sounds boring, but one of my favourite things to do with my kids is to just drive with them in the car. Our farm is 40 minutes from town, so we spend a bit of time travelling to and from it. All our great conversations happen while we drive to and from town. I get to hear about their hopes, and thoughts, and concerns. It’s the number one time for spending uninterrupted time communicating with each other.

  78. I love taking my kids to all their sporting activities then at night when I tuck them in I always say “I love watching you play………………” no rerun of the game, no comment on their performance. I just want them to know I love watching them play. The smiles when I say this, makes it all worthwhile.

  79. I would love to be there! My teenage daughter and I are just starting to share a love of photography, and it will be a nice thing for us to do together, and a skill for her to grow on with…

  80. My lord this would be so so so so so awesome!!! My Fave thing to do with my kids ( 12-3 + 5 ) is explore , we love to get outside and dig in the dirt , pick flowers and adventure in wild. We also read and cook and dance and yell and make a lot of mess and drive each other mad!! The things I remember from when I was younger were the things that made me laugh and made me feel loved … The simple things like giggles and slippery worms, messy cake mix fights and the lazy Sunday’s at home 🙂 I want my kids to think back to these days and remember them like the perfect photograph xx

  81. So hard to narrow down, but since having my second daughter who is now 8 months old, I love watching my two girls interact. My eldest, Luella is 3, a big show off and loves sending Maddie into fits of laughter, at any given opportunity. Usually resulting in us all in hysterics. It’s the best.

  82. Every Friday my 4 year old son and I have a date day where we talk about the big things in a 4 year olds life over hot chocolate and banana bread. You know …. Stuff like frog heaven and who he’s going to marry this week

  83. I love that my little girl (5, but if you ask her very almost 6) is just super interested in whatever I love doing and wants to do it too. I’m a designer, so she loves EVERYTHING creative and I love teaching her and creating things together. She loves helping me with my #fmsphotoaday prompts as I’m relatively new to Instagram and that’s something we can plan and do together. Thanks Chantelle!……. Oooh and also knitting, we like doing that, and drinking milkshakes.

  84. Every Saturday we take our 18 month old son to the Farmers Markets and grab our produce for the week…. We love seeing him get excited by all the beautiful fresh produce and choosing what he wants to eat (while taste testing lots of stuff along the way!) He just loves to cook and it’s so fun to be able to share my passion with him and share yummy meals together 🙂 xx

  85. This will sound a little indulgent but I love to holiday with my kids. I am a much happier person and mum and wife on holiday. And making memories is what life is all about ?

  86. My little miss, aged 5, has quite the creative streak (not sure where that or her left-handedness came from!). At the moment, we love writing our own books – creating an exciting, fun and whimsical story and illustrating it with bright and bold pictures. We have even considered taking photos to illustrate our next tale!

  87. I love hanging out with my kids just being me. No rushing, no nagging, no phone/iPad/technology from anyone! Shock horror but just being silly us. Chatting, giggling, talking talking talking!! It might not happen all the time but when it does its just right.

  88. I could say cooking, mummy-kid dates, dinner table ‘happy & sad’ and cuddles, and they’d all be true, but I actually think what I most love at the moment is our stories at bedtime; the wind down, the child’s attention and enjoyment of just us and the pictures and words. And the kiss, cuddle and nose rubbing as we say I love you and nighty night. Pure bliss.

  89. We just came back from a weekend adventure, just me and the two little ones. We needed to feel the sand beneath our feet and jump over little waves. Peer into rock pools and draw stick figures in the sand. We spun around with the sea breeze, chased sea gulls and imagined building a home among the dunes.
I love spending time with them and creating joy and fun memories.

  90. My entry probably doesn’t stand a chance against all the others, but you’ve got to be in it to win it right? I just love spending time with my kids in general and watching how they develop and learn new things everyday. I love photography and always try to capture the good (and bad) moments by taking photos on my phone – I have almost 13,000 photos already this year alone! I’ve always wanted to do a photography course to perfect my skills but have never got around to doing one. I think that the workshop is a great idea and would love to learn some new photography tips 🙂

  91. taking miss 4 to Local beach to explore, as her daddy has changed jobs, so now works away for 28 days straight So we are still adjusting.

  92. I love to take miss 4 to the local beach for her to run, explore, dance and sing. While I soak in the beautiful sea air, as her daddy has recently changed jobs and it now away for 28 days straight and we still adjusting to this huge change in our life.

  93. I’m a foster carer in Northern WA, my 6 year old daughter and I love to take photos together. In the 2 and a half years of her being mine I have lost count of the amount of photos we have. It’s a great way to connect us and for her to feel trusted when she gets to use the “special camera”. ?

  94. Explore and Adventure.
I was a candy crush, movie, tv an couch enthusiast before being a mum. Now we are out and about every weekend. I am so very lucky and grateful to be a mum – I love sharing all these adventures with my little one!

  95. I just introduced my 7 year old to Grease and she loves it! It’s awesome watching a movie I know so well with my kid and sharing my love for it. Upside: dancing to all the songs with her, especially Grease Lightening. Downside: think I’ve heard the movie 47 times this weekend!!

  96. I added a 15yo to my fosterbrood this year. It’s changed everything and in the most positive way. There are many things we enjoy doing together, but if I had to wrap it up in one word, it would be – adventure. Going to new places and learning about and doing new things together is gold! When I can convince my big boy to turn the camera around and take photos of not just himself, but of the big wide world, he is a natural. I would love to open him to the world of creativity and self expression that photography offers.

  97. What a tricky question! There are so many things I love doing with my three kids. But I reckon, when pushed to choose just one, I’d have to say Kitchen Disco takes top spot! Stick a Genevieve Jereb or Justine Clark CD in the old CD player on top of the microwave and get those feet moving on the lino floor! A family of three kids plus no dishwasher plus a love of cooking up all sorts of tasty treats equals a lot of time spent in the kitchen! Might as well have fun in the process! My girls love to dance and my young fella likes to laugh at my wacky dance moves. Memories in the making!

  98. I love spending time with each of my boys individually and I almost don’t care what we do. Why? Because together they are a crazy bundle of energy and flailing limbs but apart they we can actually engage nicely without me being referee constantly!! Mister Five loves taking photos with my phone so this outing would be a great one for he and I to do together, while Dad and Mister Two hang out together ?

  99. I love letting my kids choose something they want us to do together. It always surprises me the cool sstuff they come up with that beats hands down what i think they would choose. From a bike ride around the lake, a lick of paint on their bedroom walls to drawing, video creating or card games. So many fun things to do 🙂

  100. My favourite thing to do with the kids is lie in bed with them in the quiet of the early morning before the getting ready begins and have chats about their day (the good news and the bad news), their dreams (the monster under the bed, and the transformer that befriended them). I get to smell their sweet cheeks (and their delicious morning breath) and have calm time before the crazy. My especially favourite part of it is when I get one of the boys come in first and I have time with them on their own and then the second one come’s in and we have together time. It’s even more fantabulous when it happens the second day in a row and the opposite one comes in first. They have such amazing little personalities, it’s hard to know how we got so lucky.

  101. How do I choose? I love watching them play sport, in school productions, painting and making craft. My most favourite is introducing them to new experiences like sushi train and them loving it like I do… I love doing this with them because I love being around them.

  102. Surfing is our new favourite family activity. We’re having so much fun teaching the kids and doing something free and healthy together. I know that when they’re older, we’re going to miss those days when the kids wanted all our attention (some days that’s hard to imagine though 😉 ) but we’d love for there to be something we’ll always love doing together. I hope surfing is it.

  103. With 10 years between my kids (son 13, daughter 3) they have vastly different interests, so it’s not always easy doing things together. However going to the beach is always a winner, with swimming during the summer rains being the absolute best !!

  104. I love “adventuring” with my daughters. We often go for weekend road trips (even if it’s not too far). I love to explore with the girls and find special hidden spots because I want to create these memories of outdoor fun adventures with the family, that they will remember for years.

  105. My favourite thing to do with my three boys and husband is going for bush walks in the Blue Mountains, so many beautiful places and things to see. We also love to cook although there isn’t often enough time to take photos before it’s all devoured ?, thanks for the chance, plus the daily inspiration!

  106. We love exploring our home town – Sydney and finding new and fun places to eat, play and experience life.

  107. I love just being with them and having special one on one time with each of them. We decide on something special that just the two of us will do and its our time to have fun together. It might just be going to the beach and collecting shells, or choosing some seeds to plant or shopping for a fun craft project.

  108. As the days are getting busier (more preschool and work days than a few years ago), I love to take a picnic blanket, my four year and my fluffy white dog down to our local park and blow bubbles. Not only does Chloe have heaps of fun, I always get some cute photos x

  109. I’ve been in love with taking photos pretty much all my life. And I’ve passed it on to my two kids (8 and 4). Both of them. Daddy finally accepted it but still does the eye roll ;o). We are originally from Europe and my favourite thing to do with my kids it go down to the beach. Build sandcastles, run around or just watch the ocean. It’s magical to us ..

  110. I love travelling with my kids – experiencing different foods, cultures and way of life. Often the experiences make us realise how blessed we are to be living in Australia. Lots of photos taken on these holidays provide us with memories our travels. My 5 year old loves snapping pictures on my phone, so I would love to bring him along if we had the opportunity.

  111. I simply enjoy each moment of everyday with Master 4, especially when a moment calls to snap it on the camera. But when I asked him, he responded with doing the vacuuming with mummy and getting his feet massaged before sleep time. x

  112. My favourite thing to do with my kids is to have “adventures”. Saturday mornings is when we all pitch in and do cleaning (the kids their rooms, me the rest of the house!!). Then we let the kids choose an adventure as a reward Saturday afternoon. It usually involves going and exploring somewhere, like being tourists in Melbourne, or going for a lovely nature walk or driving to a new town to investigate, we like to do something all together and fun. I usually try to ensure that where ever we end up is photogenic so I can practise my photography skills!

On a side note my family and I are travelling over to the UK to spend Christmas and New Years with our family there. It will be the first time that the cousins (ages 10, 6, 4 and 1) will celebrate christmas together! We have been thinking of gifts that we can get the kids for christmas and I thought the other day that I would like to buy my son (the 10 year old) a digital camera just for him. Encourage him take photos from his perspective on the holiday and then for his birthday (which is at the end of January) I would like to secretly get all of his holiday photos printed into an album and surprise him with it! Showing him the power of photos in capturing and preserving memories will be such an amazing thing, I adore photography and would love to share it with him.

  113. I love to watch my son do what he loves, which is play soccer. He has just turned 6 and seeing him be so passionate about something is inspiring and the best part is he has really only just begun. it makes you remember how exciting things are to watch them love something that much.

  114. It’s tough to pinpoint one thing, but at the moment I’d have to say it’s exploring our beautiful new city together. We’ve just moved interstate to NSW and the kids and I love to go adventuring in the car while Daddy is at work. There’s always something new to explore and it’s so nice sharing the experience with them. I love to have fresh new spots to photograph them in too. I think my 5 year old daughter would be super thrilled to come along with me to this.

  115. My favourite thing to do with my boys (3 and 5) is turn the music up loud in the car and sing at the top of our lungs! Nothing better than hearing them belt it out (even if they get the words completely wrong) then giggle their pants off ☺️ We even get the air guitar and drums going!

  116. I have 4 kids. All
    Grown now. My son Tom
Lives clear across the country and I miss him dearly. My favorite thing to do with him was sit up and just talk, Til the wee hours of the morning. I miss that the most. I would bring him with me if air fare is not outrageous.

  117. The weekends as I can enjoy each moment of those days with master 4, especially when a moment calls to snap it on the camera. When I asked master 4 this question, his response was vacuuming with mummy and getting his feet massaged before bedtime (a bedtime routine continued from birth).

  118. It’s the simple things that I love to do the most with my kids. Bush walks or exploring a new park. Seeing the world through their eyes is always amazing. I would love to do this workshop with my son as he has just started to really enjoy photography with me and it would be nice to spend some quaility time just the two of us.

  119. Quality uninterrupted time with Tallulah is getting harder as she grows up. Lu is a teen now and spends so much of her time with friends. When we do get each other we walk our dog around the The Tan and eat yummy food afterwards.

  120. My favourite thing to do with my daughter is go to the beach. Even in Winter, living a few minutes from the beach is our favourite place to go, the ocean is amazing in Winter. The squeals of delight as the waves chase her, the shells, the sand, the wind and the salty air. The beach is where I fill up my cup of calm, the reset that helps me to get back on track.

  121. My fave thing to do with my children is…just letting myself be a kid again with them, running in the sea, laughing at silly things, jumping, scooting, skating, it’s the best feeling of freedom when you just let everything adult go and try to understand and be present in the moment with them. (and document it with a few photos along the way!) x

  122. My favourite thing at the moment is trampolining with my kids. We’ve been going to skyzone and for that hour we just fly and let any worries go and enjoy the feeling of being absolutely free. It’s all about finding activities that connect you and your kids. And if it means finding your own inner child and seeing it through their lense, that’s even better. I hope to see you for the workshop!

  123. I love getting myself and my kids away from TV and from Facebook, and simply spending time together outdoors. I love going for a walk with them, holding their hands, and hearing about whatever they want to talk about.

  124. We love going on family bush walks, fresh air, nature and new experiences! Could there be anything better! My daughter and I would love to make it a mummy / daughter weekend away and join you in Sydney! (We are from Melbourne)

  125. I’m going to throw my hat in the ring here even though I’m from Melbourne. I’d happily fly up to Sydney for this incredible opportunity! My favourite thing to do with my girls is very little. In the hurly burly of hectic family life we like to “schedule” some slow time. Almost every Sunday (with the exception of a kid’s birthday party or other family commitment) we keep Sundays free of commitments. It’s called SLOW SUNDAY and my children love it. It means whatever you want it to mean. Everyone moves at a slower pace, we are gentler on ourselves. It may mean lazying in PJ’s till lunchtime (or beyond), time in the garden picking flowers and tending to our veggies, baking something sweet, a little photography on the side, and “stealing” a few minutes of quiet time to read, rest and restore. The real magic happens in these times when we are not harried or beholden to routine. We love it. My girls have totally embraced the philosophy behind Slow Sundays and we are all better people because of it 🙂

  126. My favourite thing to do with my 3 year old son is a little ritual we do every day together. As we are always the first up, he sits up on the kitchen bench and we make a pot of tea together. He loves to measure the correct amount of tea leaves and put honey in his cup while I do the hot tea pouring. We then enjoy a morning cup together and talk about the day ahead. It’s a little moment just for us before the rest of the household wakes up and the craziness begins!

  127. I love taking my kids out for a nature fix. Our day to day lives rush by and sadly and annoyingly they fight and shout at each other or someone is always whinging! But miraculously a day , or longer if we can manage it, in the bush climbing trees, walking and exploring makes everyone so happy. It’s magic!

  128. At the moment my favourite thing to share with my almost 12 year old is doing creative stuff like making terrariums and trying to live life a bit more slowly and in the moment. Would love to attend with my daughter, who loves instagram and taking photos (like Mama like daughter!). x

  129. It is so hard to articulate what my favourite thing to do with my kids is. In all truth it is just being with them creating memories. Whether we are exploring, crafting, playing, imagining, cooking, dancing, or reading, when we are together it is just the best.

  130. I love baking with my little monkeys. There is something magical about watching them create something, and then seeing it transform in the oven. Science made fun!

  131. What an unreal opportunity.
It’s hard to say 1 thing I love to do with my children as they are aged 18 , 17 & 10 so they are at different stages of their lives. My 2 oldest have full time jobs & their own cars so they have just started that fun care free stage of life but I love our conversations we have every night.
Miss 10 is my baby , I love when she snuggles up to me of a night reading 1 of her books but I love love love when she helps me with photo a day. She will often ask what the prompt is for the day , I love the ideas she comes up with but I love it more when she’s in front of the camera.
Thank you Chantelle for giving us Sydney siders an awesome opportunity
    Good luck everyone xxx

  132. I love chatting with my daughter. I love hearing her perspective on life – I am learning so much from her. We are kindred spirits and my heart soars when I am in her company.

  133. This sounds wonderful. My favourite thing to do with my kids is cuddle them because I know it won’t be long before they won’t be into that anymore so I’m squeezing it all in now. I think that they like the cuddles the best too especially in the mornings when we are all in as a family. If it’s not cuddling then the next favourite thing to do is be at the beach together building dribble castles and searching for treasures.

  134. HELLO CHANTELLE!
Well, like you i LOVE photography..and food…. and meeting people ! I have A beautiful 12 year old sparkly wonderful creative creature, my daughter Tillie. She shares my love of creating, making and photography… and sees beauty in the world around her. She is passionate about life, a happy beautiful soul with a killer smile and easy laugh. She is my middle child, my least demanding, the least squeaky wheel, and I rarely get to spend the time with her that I would like to.

My favourite thing to do with each of my kids is just HAVING ONE ON ONE TIME WITH THEM, it does not matter what we do really, i just like being able to share time with them so I can appreciate their own personalities. That’s why it’s my fave thing to to do.

We live 5 hours west of Sydney, in the country, and opportunities to partake in these types of creative ventures locally are rare indeed! Tillie LOVES coming to the city,it’s all so different to home and exciting, she is such a sweetie, even buying sushi makes her grin from ear to ear. Being able to be part of this workshop would be a wonderful treat for both of us, and open up new worlds, possibilities and give us a chance to make some precious memories… I am WAY too aware she is going to grow up soon. Please choose us! xxxx
love, @rarepearstudio and @tillie_tillie (our Instagram names!)

  135. My absolute favourite thing to do with my children these days is to stop what I’m doing and just say YES! This means letting the long Mummy To Do List wait, letting the house stay messy a little longer & letting posts on social media go unread. Gasp! But saying YES brings me so much joy on a daily basis. It has allowed me to play soccer in the backyard with Mister Five, cook play dough and make ‘hamburgers’ with Mister Three and sing and giggle with Miss six months. I never envisaged my life as a mum to be so busy and time poor but saying YES more often ( and believe me I don’t always say yes!) has allowed me to let my children be little and enjoy NOW xxx

  136. We love exploring new, exotic places and meeting interesting characters via the glorious world of picture books. All from the comfort of a snuggle on the couch. As a child, I loved the world of books and it’s so exciting to share my love of reading with my little one and watch her being won over my the magic of books.

  137. So, we do this thing. It started as one on one time for my hubby & daughter (3) while I prepared dinner. A simple little game of hide and seek. The first time they played, there was so much laughter and shouts of delight, they never played on there own again. My other kids (my big babies 19 & 17) joined in, along with myself & now it is a nightly ritual! It’s so funny to see how creative everyone is with the hiding spots and there have been many photos taken of spots they get stuck in! It really hit home for me how special this time is to our family the other night. We weren’t able to play because little Miss 3 was unwell. All of a sudden I heard counting and the familiar “Ready or not, here I come”. It was our neighbours! We are a noisy, fun bunch in our family. It lifted my heart to hear that our favourite time with our kids had encouraged family time for someone else. xoxo

  138. My favourite thing to do with my daughter is go on adventures. It starts with her in full regalia – including pink gumboots and ‘the magic wand’ – and we set out on a treasure hunt around our neighbourhood. We are lucky enough to live within walking distance of hidden beaches, secret caves, rock pools, nature trails and an old lighthouse. She loves finding trinkets in the sand. I love her fearlessness and imagination. Out in the open, time slows down and it somehow brings out the best in us. It’s so much fun, doesn’t cost a thing and reminds us to appreciate the little things.

  139. It’s the simple act of holding my 5 and 2 year old sons’ hands that I love the most. Whether out and about or on the couch watching a movie. I love the soft, chubbiness of my 2 year olds hands – they melt me. I love the caring, playful, slightly rougher hands of our 5 year old – those hands make me proud. They’re the most important hands I’ve ever held.

  140. My most favourite thing to do is to just be with my daughter. Between my Uni schedule and the never-ending list of “mum” jobs and her school/dance week it can get busy, so whether it’s a planned weekend of fun or just blasting songs on the way home from dance class, making sure I am in the moment and connected with my daughter is my favourite x

  141. The morning snuggles.
    The picnics.
    The birthday cakes.
    The ‘just because’ cakes.
    Chocolate crackles at parties.
    The road trips.
    The big Sunday lunches.
The toasted sandwiches with tinned spaghetti inside.
    The beach.
    Toasting marshmallows.
    Fishing.

…. So many things to relive my childhood but best of all I can capture these memories forever as my family growing up never had a camera!

  142. We are very into our bike riding. My son just got on to 2 wheels and the level of proudness (is that a word?) is awesome. It’s a great way (and cheap way) to get out and enjoy Sydney and we are so lucky to have some great bike paths to explore.

  143. My most favourite thing to do with my son is travel. I love to see the world through his eyes. He likes to talk about things that he sees along the way and has a great attention to detail. He shows me how to appreciate the little and big things in life. I have no doubt that is going to turn out be one hell of a explorer.

  144. I love taking my girls to places I’ve never been before. It helps make me as excited as they are, and we can all explore with fresh eyes.

  145. Thanks for asking this Chantelle. I already answered down below, although I should add that I absolutely love snuggles/huggles with miss 7 and master 2 and always tell them ‘there is always time for more hugs’ no matter what I am doing. But I wanted to say thank you as I have really enjoyed coming back and reading the things others love to do too. It’s given me some new ideas to try with our little family

  146. My boys and I love exploring. By jumping in the car and driving somewhere we haven’t been to yet. It’s generally a little beach we’ve not yet discovered, then we seek out the local chippie and promptly head to the beach with our chocolate milkshakes and fish and chips. I love watching and capturing (photographing) them discover all the things they encounter. Children find the fun in almost any found object. It’s just beautiful to watch, capture and be a part of this exciting journey with them.

  147. Travel is our bonding thing. The fact we have been able to do it despite a wheelchair being part of our ‘baggage’ has just made it twice as sweet. A weekend beach-side shack or a swanky hotel, it doesn’t matter. The fact we are all together minus distractions (think that basket of washing overflowing, lawns needing mowing, WII game calling to be finished and homework deadline looming) is what I love. Suddenly I find myself jumping into the ocean with abandon and just enjoying being a kid with my kids. Precious memories forever.

  148. Hi Chantelle! I love learning from your blog, especially the Photo-A-Day
challenge and your Little Moments app. I would be very grateful for
this amazing opportunity to share my passion of photography with my
eldest. I love all the little moments with my children. Even the
simplest of things like stopping to watch my little girl pause during
our walk to preschool to pick dandelions. It is just us now at home, so
my favourite thing at this point is just to cuddle and snuggle up to
them at the end of a long day and read stories at night. It’s so
wonderful to let the everyday worries melt away and let them know how
    much I love them.

  149. My favourite thing to do with my mini’s is sunsets! We LOVE sunsets! No matter what we are doing we stop to see if it’s a good one & take a moment together marvelling over its beauty, my eldest mini (8yrs old) will encourage me to take photos & give me tips on how to do that! It is the best part of my day & brings stillness to an otherwise crazy day! xx

  150. Congratulations to the winners- you lucky things!! Have great fun and don’t forget to share??? For the rest of us-better luck next time?
