Dummy, Or Am I?

Lacey has never had a dummy.

I tell a lie. She had one for about thirty minutes in the hospital when she was born, and then hasn’t been interested in them since. She’d try them for a few minutes and then spit them out.

I thought it might have made her more comfortable at times, having one. Like when she used to scream in the car. That would have made life a little more easier, for everyone involved.

On the weekend I rediscovered her dummies. I washed one and then offered it to her to see what she would do.

She loved it. Like really loved it. I think it’s because I’ve stopped breastfeeding. I’ve noticed that when she’s drinking her bottles sometimes she’ll just suck on the teat when the bottle is empty. The dummy is the next best thing.
