  1. Sometimes I do it when a place isn’t very busy. I just use my point and shoot camera though… I actually don’t know why we can’t take photos in some places. Like the mall for example… ???

  2. Oh me too! I don’t mind taking exterior photos of shops or restaurants but I can’t bring myself to take photos of food in cafes or restaurants, I’m scared of getting told off as well! Yes, I’m a wimp.

  3. While I am in ‘tourist’ mode (most of the time while I am living here fortunately!) I find I can take pictures of food and inside shops easily. ‘Normal’ mode is a lot harder. Though I find having kids helps…you can pretend that the photos are actually of them when you are out.

  4. Easy! Don’t bring a big camera. Use a palm-sized one so you can quickly put it in your pocket or handbag afterwards. Turn off the flash. Turn off the beeping or clicking noise it makes when you press the shutter. Learn to hold it extremely still (so it doesn’t blur too much when inside and not using a flash).

I’ve taken photos of anything and everything. It doesn’t worry me. Even when I KNOW I shouldn’t be. If you get caught just give a sweet innocent smile, apologize profusely, say, “Oh I didn’t know. I’m sorry”, put the camera away, and walk off. Then they leave you alone. 🙂

    Good luck!

  5. If I do, which is rare, I’ll ask the owner or manager if it’s OK. I just say I’m posting it on my blog and they are welcome to view the pics on my view finder and OK them if they like – done it twice and no issues.

  6. Cool! My phone (before it died) had a great little camera. I can’t turn off the sound though so it makes a HUGE noise when I take photos.

    Thanks for the tips.x

  7. Dear chantelle. I’m not so worried about getting into trouble for photographing food…. But I feel embarrassed too (OMG I look like a tourist etc). I guess if anyone asked, I would just say that I have a fantab-tastic blog that will make this restaurant famous, thanks very much 🙂 and check the inhibitions about the big camera at the door. We all have to suffer for our art :o)

  8. I have a little camera I take out instead, way more covert. I’ve taken pic at the hairdressers while my dye is setting, of funny people in public, wacky fb profile self portraits on public transport lol… I think I find it exciting!!!

  9. i try not to use the flash to minimise obviousness (and cause i flash photos), but most of the time i just take the photo, and just try not to think that people think im odd.

at least i get the pics i want 😛
