Bits + Bobs.

We met up with friends over the weekend for breakfast at Bills. If you haven’t heard of Bills, well he’s famous for yummy breakfasts. Usually people order the ricotta hotcakes or the fritters. It’s a whole lot of amazing.

My girlfriend Rowe, who we met up with, is the sort of friend that I never run out of conversations with. I can’t imagine we ever would. So after breakfast we hit the movies to watch The Lorax. Her little daughter and Lacey get on really nicely, even though there is a 4 year age gap. Anyways, those details are irrelevant, but it’s always a good time when we’re together.

The Lorax was a beautiful movie with a beautiful story line. The quote above is pretty much the moral to the story. There’s something in that for everyone, isn’t there?

Whenever I leave a movie I often find it hard to adapt to the real world again. I get so caught up the movie that I have to remember what’s real and what’s movie world. So I came out of the movie feeling all warm and fuzzy, and as I was walking around I hear a live band in the shopping centre singing ‘All you need is love’. Surreal. And there they were, a Beatles cover band, singing warm and fuzzy songs about love.

{And see that shop in the back saying ‘The big reveal’, I hear Zara is going there. Nice.}

On the topic of movies, I love stumbling across a movie that I didn’t know I was going to watch. It happened on Saturday night, with Lacey sleeping beside me and Hubby at work, I discovered Into the Wild on SBS.

In short, it’s a true story about a young guy who finishes college and then decided to ditch his savings {$24k} and live a simple life, ultimately getting to Alaska to live in the wild. Because I’d never heard of it, and hadn’t planned to watch it, I had no expectations. It was an amazing movie. I sobbed through it and felt changed after watching it. Brilliant. And it didn’t even have sub-titles. Go SBS.

On Thursday Miss Lacey turns 4. OMG.

{The beautiful letters are from Yellow Bird Yellow Beard. Cute right?}

We sold our apartment, and it officially settled last week. We’re now renting it from the new owner. Exciting things ahead, I hope.

I recently bought these two dresses from City Chic. The green and black is still yet to arrive. I also bought the shoe clips below. I haven’t been brave enough to wear them yet.

And now I’m tossing up whether to get these boots on eBay. I can’t decide if they’re cool, or a bit daggy. I know if I got them Hubby would be sure to say, who do you think you are? A cowboy? What do you think?

What’s the last movie you watched? Love it, loathe it? And what’s the last thing you bought, fashion-wise?

  1. Hi – love those dresses and those boots rule (I am going to Texas in July and intend to buy myself a pair!
I have started doing April PAD but having trouble uploading but i will get there
    Love your blog

  2. Love the boots, get them. Way cool.
I saw Into The Wild, great movie but the book is better. I cried as well.
Last movie I saw was The Hunger Games. Liked it okay, loved the book so much better.
Wear the shoe clips. You're awesome and you can pull it off easily.
    ( =

  3. I like that quote, it's a good one. Also think SBS is rocking the ratings in our household of late. Pretty sure it's my age but the programming is bang on for me. I am bummed I forgot about Into The Wild. I buy Feast magazine and it has a movie listing – matched to food, of course – and I spied there that it was on, but clearly forgot about it after that. Oh well. Memory fail. Also a symptom of being in my late 30s, yes? By my 70s I'll be able to blame everything on age – that's the plan.

  4. The boots are super cute but are they one of those things you love looking at yet you'll never wear?? I do that alot! Ha! Last movie I watched was The Lorax with our kiddos and I did buy the cutest pair of sandals with peacock feathers on them…love them!

  5. Oh wow….awesome catch up of bits & bobs!
Firstly…I read Ella The Lorax book last night at bedtime….she loved it…I loved it {the message & quote} and promised her we'd see it this holidays at the cinemas 🙂
Secondly….I have those exact boots LOL!!! Only wore them 3 times…they look cool with a dress & tights in winter! {and i will confess I wore them for Ella's 4th party….a famr party!} I love em' though :)))
Also….sold your apartment…yahooooo! We sold last month & moved on….best thing we did! I'm so happy! We have more space. A fresh start. Exciting things to focus on.
And a big {early} happy birthday to Lacey! Wow…the big 4 🙂 What an awesome week ahead you have Chantelle.
    ENJOY!
    x

  6. I don't heart the boots. Sorry x Congratulations on the apartment sale – interesting things ahead for you guys.

    Happy birthday, Miss Lacey.

And I'm in love with the shoe clips. I need some in my life!

Oh, and I'm in for April photo a day. Have promised the Welshman no net whilst we're away so will have a mega photo session upon my return!

  7. Great post! Last night I went to see Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It was a lovely, heartwarming movie. I laughed a lot and cried a little, too. Loved it and want to see it again!

  8. Wow, such an exciting weekend, I really want to go see that movie hopefully we can on Tuesday. I like those boots, but if your not 100% on them maybe check out the ones in the shoe stores just to have a feel what they look like on.

I can't believe she is nearly 4, too exciting.

  9. Into the Wild is a great film with Eddie Vedder's fabulous music. It certainly gets you thinking…
The boots are great, I'm looking for some cowboy boots too. Buy them!
Congrats on the sale of your apartment x.

  10. Very exciting things ahead for you!

We watched “The Hunger Games” and “Mirror Mirror” on the weekend – I loved both. Really want to go and see “The Lorax”!

  11. I don't watch movies very often, I'm more of a TV junkie, but I finally watched The Social Network a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I would really like to see Snow White and the Huntsman when it comes out.

I bought myself a lovely tank top with sequins on it a few days ago. Great investment methinks.

The City Chic dresses are lovely, and congratulations on the sale of your apartment!

  12. Wanting to see The Lorax soon – love Dr. Suess…. I love Horton Hears A Who and The Grinch

Last movie I watched was 'Red Dog' – aussie movie, really liked it but it put me in a bit of a down mood, movies that are a little sad do that to me so I don't watch them much… Marley and Me was a killer lol, same with 'Jessica'. I refuse to watch 'My Sister's Kepper' Im such a sook

  13. Read the book of Into the Wild too. It was brilliant. The sound track by Eddie Vedder is awesome and is on regular rotation in my car 🙂

I can't remember what the last movie I watched was… Saturday night is meant to be movie night, but with 2 under 3 it just hasn't happened lately!

Love the Boots. I say go for them!!!!

  14. Congrats on selling the unit, exciting times ahead for you! The last movie I watched was Hop on Foxtel last night and surprising it got me in the mood for the Easter break coming up … actually Russell Brand will get me in the mood for anything 😉

  15. hi! it's nice to meet you! I've been following your blog the past few weeks and find you are inspiring, my dear. the last movie we watched was at home: Hanna. it had some funky parts but I was totally impressed by her skill. && I read into the wild years ago. I've never seen the movie but must now!! I rarely buy anything for myself (I'd rather spoil my boys or dress them cute!) but three weeks ago I bought my black sandals that I loveee.
    much love,
    vanessa

  16. I love the green and black dress, I'm going into City Chic tomorrow to pick up a layby, I'm going to look at the dress! I just love that shop, I recently bought a gorgeous red dress from there for a wedding.
Into The Wild was a fantastic movie, and very sad. The last movie I saw was A Dangerous Method which I hated! Saw the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which I loved.
Make sure you are going to wear the boots if you buy them, I often go to buy something unusual and then think “would I really wear them?”.
    🙂

  17. We took Aurelia to see the Lorax as well on Sunday because she loves the book. It was such a charming film.

Congrats on selling the apartment, can't wait to hear more about what's in the pipeline. Not sure about the boots but love the shoe clips – what shoes are they going on?

  18. btw, spolier alert!

I love Eddie Vedder's soundtrack for Into the Wild, I listen to it allll the time! However, I found the movie annoying as I think the guy was just bloody hopeless. I can totally understand his POV that getting away from the craziness of the world, but he ended up dying/starving mere metres from help. He just didn't realise he was so close to civilisation. If only he had a few more skills then he could have survived and enjoyed his anti-society life. I just can't get past his survival skills stupidity.

  19. Absolutely love Dr Seuss but haven't seen The Lorax yet. Might have to do that.

As for the shoe clips… just do it 🙂 Then you won't ever die wondering “What if I had just worn them.”

I think you should get the boots. They've obviously appealed to you for some reason or another, so live a little and take the plunge. When your husband makes a 'cowboy' reference, just gallop around in a circle yelling “Yahooo!!” He'll probably roll his eyes, but you'll feel good and Lacey will think it's a hoot!

I've just joined up for PAD…so really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

    Take Care.

  20. My (19 year old at the time) son came over and brought “Into the Wild” with him for us to watch together. He loves that movie… I sobbed and loved it all at the same time. I'd never heard of it before and often that's the very best way to watch a movie I think. Have a great week!

  21. Go the boots with a skirt or dress to soften them. I'm the same as you, I get very invested in movies. I find it so hard to watch the ones that will make me teary, as it takes ages for me to get out of that heart breaking mood. x

  22. I saw two movies on Friday. the Hunger Games and 21 jump street. Both were good but I loved The Hunger Games!

  23. Love the Lorax, started reading Into the Wild some time ago and never got into enough of a rhythm to continue so must try again, can't bear to see a movie before I've read the book. The boots would be gorgeous with a skirt or dress. Love your pics. x
    Betty

  24. I saw The Lorax and loved it. Afterward I was quoting the movie to my grandmother, she turn around and said that I was a 21 year old quoting an animated movie. I laugh. But the very last movie I saw was The Hunger Games, I read the books before and I was waiting for the movie. I have to saw that it actually met my expectations. I went well from the book to the screen.

On another note, how does the clip work, the red one?

  25. I love Dr. Seuss…I think 'My many colored days' is my favorite…I also LOVE Bills but as I live in Victoria I have to be satisfied with cooking from his books!

  26. I haven't watched a movie in quite a while now! But I totally know what you mean about a film transporting you to this world that's not the reality. My head kind of “floats” and doesn't come back for a while 😛

  27. I've not long entered my 40's and was given The Lorax book when I was 8 for christmas. I LOVED it growing up and was determined to keep it for my kids… which I did. Unfortunately it's in such a state that if you try read it, it will fall apart!… LOL. Looking back this book was soo ahead of it's time and I remember at 8 wondering what our world would be like if that ever happened. Well… 33 years on and here we are! We've allowed all that to happen in 30 short years…although I acknowledge that the ball had started rolling before then. Very sad and tragic!
The last movie I saw that really impacted me was Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I took my hubby to see it and we both sat there clinging to the others hand while we cried throughout it and it was such a beautiful reminder of why we need to make the most of the time we have with our loved ones… especially our kids.
I love the boots and can see them being a great addition to your wardrobe. They are so versatile and you could wear them with so many things. Living in Darwin, I don't get to wear boots unless I head south, so I'd always steer someone down the “get the boots” lane, especially if they lived in a 4 seasons climate. Love both the dresses – they can be worn across multiple seasons. Always a hit in my eyes. Thanks so much for all your sharing. I love your blog. I find it so easy to read and at a length where it doesn't require a lot of my time. Look forward to your next one. Lynne xxx

  28. The last movie I watched, quite by accident, was My Sister's Keeper this past Saturday night. It's based on the book by Jodi Piccoult. OMG, it was a tear-jerker. However, it also made me think…if that was my daughter, my family, struggling with the same issues…what would I do? Definitely worth a watch. As for the last thing I bought fasion-wise, it was shoes…and you should definitely go for the boots…not daggy at all!

  29. Wow lovely dresses and shoes.

What was the last thing I bought for myself? wow that was a long time ago, I always shop for the children and my husband.

And the last movie I have seen is what lies beneath, I have seen it a hundereth times LOL

  30. Oooh thanks for posting the letter pic (and Happy Birthday for Thursday to the adorable Lacey) ! A friend has just had a bubba and I've been looking for a pretty letter as a room decoration and after a quick look I'm already in love with Yellow Bird, Yellow Beard. Plus there are so many cute props I can use for blog photos – my credit card will be taking a beating (after next weeks pay) LOL!
Oh and congrats on the apartment sale – best wishes for awesome times ahead…

  31. Those boots are so 80s, along with the shoe clips, I can't believe they're back again. If you love the boots and know you will wear them, get them. The green and black dress is nice, great colour combo.

  32. Cant remember the last time I went to the movies…but if its a sad one I usually end up crying and looking a mess when its over 😉
Those boots are so cute, and I love the dress.
    Gorgeous shoe clips!
Congratulations on selling your place, do you plan on travelling or buying another home?

  33. Just went to see The Hunger Games yesterday with my hubby. Good but I didn't think it played up the background story enough. Hubby liked it without having read the book, though, so I was glad about that.

The last thing I bought was some oversized dresses from a thrift store (just today!). I plan to cut them down and make matching skirts for my daughter and I. <3

  34. I completely and utterly heart everything about Into The Wild. Read the book while I was living in the US, and not long after, the movie came out. The soundtrack is bang on, I adore it, my fav song is 'Guaranteed'.
Its special to me because it reminds me of a time in my life when every day was an adventure.
I honestly think that this is one of the few films that comes up to scratch next to the book that it is based on.
