8 of the best ‘About Me’ pages

It takes just seconds to create a great first impression. In person we’d dazzle people with our pearly white grins, wit and charm {and dance moves if we had a few drinks under our belts!}, but when it comes to blogs it our About Me pages that tells a reader who we are and what our blogs are about.

I scoured the Australian blogosphere for About Me pages of mums who blog and found 8 that really work. Here they are and a little bit about why they’re so great:

Who: The Happy Home
Why it works: Belinda’s About Me page on her blog, The Happy Home, is conversational and engaging. She writes as if you were standing in front of her and she was telling you about her blog, and what she blogs about. Belinda’s page is brief, filled with images and really sets the tone for what her blog is about and who the blogger is.

Who: bellaMUMMA
Why it works: Nikki, the blogger at bellaMUMMA, has not one but two About Me pages. One is about the blog, and the other is about Nikki herself. As an established writer it makes perfect sense for Nikki to have two pages, and as she’s kept them both brief, informative and pretty {which is bellaMUMMA’s signature} it really works well for her blog.

Who: Planning with kids
Why it works: Nicole’s About Me page for her blog, Planning with kids, starts with a photo of herself, a few paragraphs about her life and then she addresses a few pertinent topics, such as her book, her family, using photos from her blog and getting in touch. It’s clean, clear and really easy to read.

Who: Meet Me At Mikes
Why it works: Meet Me At Mike’s author, Pip, really allows her personality to shine through in her About Me page. The page is filled with more text than many About Me pages, but it’s a fun and interesting read. She shares about her life, her loves, what she blogs about, what she’s done and where you might have seen her. It’s comprehensive and showcases the talents of Pip and Meet Me At Mikes.

Who: Sheye Rosemeyer
Why it works: Sheye’s About Me page is brief, but really fun. Having been a follower of Sheye’s blog for years now you can really get a sense of her whimsical style from her set of short, descriptive lists. Sheye has really created a point of difference from other About Me pages, which is just one part of it’s effectiveness.

Who: Frills in the Hills
Why it works: Melissa starts her About Me page by making you part of the conversation, “I’m Melissa, but everyone calls me Liss.” She then continues to engage the reader by sharing about her life briefly, her children and then about her blog. Liss‘ About Me page really sets the tone that carries through the rest of Frills in the Hills.

Who: Ish and Chi
Why it works: Viv of Ish and Chi has created an amazing About Me page that really demands the reader’s attention. Viv obviously understands that we’re visual creatures and that images will always win. She tells her story, as well as the story of the blog through images that she’s taken herself and a few short words in a flowchart manner. Viv’s About Me page is fresh, creative and gives the reader a great impression of what the author and the blog are about.

Who:

Hello Owl
Why it works: Danielle’s About Me page starts with one of her signature self portraits and immediately the reader knows that she’s a mum {as she’s holding her baby in the photo}. Danielle shares a little about herself in her About Me page, keeping it brief, and then goes on to share what happens on her blog each day of the week. It works as it sets the readers expectations and allows them to see what they’ll get when they return to Hello Owl without giving too much away.

What do you think makes a great About Me page? Do you often visit them when reading a new blog? If you’re a blogger, how long has it been since you’ve freshened up your own About Me page?

  1. What a fantastic idea for a post, and it immediately inspires me to go and tart up my own About Me, and finally get a grip and do an About This Blog page which is really what I meant to do first. Love a bit of inspiration early in the morning!

  2. Great post, Chantelle. I'm off to check out these ladies' blogs.
I think the About page is so important because as soon as I find a blog that catches my eye, I go straight to the About page to find out all about the author.
If there isn't one there, I get disappointed.
I try and keep mine regularly updated and enjoy making it better.

Yours is an awesome about page!

  3. The very first place I go when I discover a new blog is the “About Me” page. I love to know who is the face behind the blog.

I have a very basic one on my blog, but I never know what to write on there! Hopefully checking out these amazing blogs will give me a bit of inspiration xxx

  4. A great post – I love 'About Me' pages. It's the first thing I read when stumbling across a new blog and I find it really frustrating when bloggers don't have one.
    Xo

  5. Thanks Chantelle. I probably need to check out mine and give it a spruce up! Great post. PS I'm freaking out about the photobucket messages too. I hope they fix it :/

  6. Awww thank you! I love yours and Belinda's too…! I want to update mine – with photos/updates but that's a good few weeks away I think ! xx

  7. Great tip. As I type this, I have no idea what my About Me page says. But I am sure it is brief and lame. I have no problem laying my feelings, thoughts, emotions into a blog post, but for some reason, talking “About Me” just doesn't come easily…

  8. Thanks to your post, I finally took the time to update my About Me page. It could still use some work, but its a far cry better than it was! Now I'm late for lunch with a friend! Oops

  9. Thanks Chantelle!
This is exactly the type of stuff i need to know for creating my own blog! for to do some work on it now. x

  10. I always check the About Me before I follow someone new, I like to know a bit more about them. You inspired me to go and update mine too! Mine use to read about what the blog was for like I needed a reason to ramble, but I've changed it to be a bit more personal and quite like the new About Me 🙂

  11. A fab post, Chantelle, and thanks for introducing me to some new bloggers.

I freshened mine up recently when doing the Blogging Your Way course with Holly Becker and really enjoyed the process. It's a bit daunting to have to sum yourself up but so worth it. J x

  12. This is really helpful! I am trying to build up my blog,l but never even thought about the “About me” page.

Between your ebook and posts like these, you are definitely becoming my blog teacher! 🙂

  13. Thanks so much for this, Chantelle. I am new to this, and haven't even thought of conjuring up an About Me page! I will definitely check these out for some ideas and inspiration!

  14. Oh I am so chuffed! Thank you so much for featuring me! I HATE writing bios… I really HATE it. So my page is a complete run down of the things I have done so far, in my own voice rather than in the 3rd person. It feels a bit easier to write that way!

A good About me page makes it easier when other bloggers or media outlets write about you too, because all the research they might have to do independently is already done! No need to click around or google! It makes everyone's job easier.

Anyoo.. thanks again, Chantelle!!! I really appreciate this! xx pip

  15. Food for thought, here! I never look at “about me” pages, and I don't have a clue if I even have one of my own. Interesting. Perhaps something I can look into, although I tend to like my blog minimalist.

ps. can't believe Lacey's three nowadays!

  16. This totally put a fire under my seat to get my about me page from 'under construction' to fabulously finished! Now it's done! Yay!
Plus you totally put me on to Nicole's blog – I must've been living under a rock all this time…

    xx

  17. Chantelle YOUR about me page is one of my favourites! I think every blogger should have one (making one right now) as I also like to know the person behind the blog.

  18. Chantelle, this is very informative. I am going to have a really good look at my blog again and focus on the content. Thank you.

    Lili
