7 reasons I’m excited about The Good Dinosaur

Earlier this year I went all the way to San Francisco to visit Pixar Studios because a movie was being made, and I needed to know about it. I was the only media from all of Australia to go, it was the ultimate honour. I’ve had to keep secret squirrel about this for a while now, but now that this movie is about to open in the States, and in Australia on Boxing Day I can share all.

I’ve seen short bits of this movie and met the people that actually made it, and from what I’ve seen I’m excited. In short, it’s a movie about a dinosaur Arlo who makes an unlikely little friend {a human}. It’s kinda a classic boy and dog story, but it’s twisted and turned around and is about a dinosaur and a cave boy.

THIS IS WHY I’M EXCITED ABOUT THE GOOD DINOSAUR

ONE

I got to sit down with the director of The Good Dinosaur, Peter Sohn {super nice guy}, and I had one question for him. I wanted to know this, “How will we feel when we walk out at the end of the movie?” Peter said that it’s a story that we’ll feel connected to, and identify with. We will get emotional. So bring tissues. I love a movie that makes me feel stuff, don’t you?

TWO

So much love and soul went into this movie. I felt it there. I saw it in the first sketch ever made of Arlo and Spot. I heard it when the animators talked about Peter, the director, asking them {begging} them to put their love into the film. He’d often ask of them, “Let’s dig deeper, ok?” And they did.

THREE

It’s the most real a dinosaur on film {in animation} has been done. The team went out to zoos and researched elephants, and worked on how Arlo and his family would move. I’m sure it was tedious, but you’ll see in the film how beautifully they’ve done.

FOUR

The team also went out into Montana and researched the landscape to create a beautiful backdrop to the movie. Every little thing that could have been thought about, has been considered. The landscape is stunning.

FIVE

The voices are brilliant. The team auditioned 1400 {!!} people to get the right voice for Arlo. In the end Raymond Ochoa got the gig. I think you’ll like Buck too.

SIX

Anything that is based around this message, has to be beautiful and good. This is what I want to teach my kids.

The Good Dinosaur

SEVEN

THIS.

And also who doesn’t love a Boxing Day movie. It’s the best way to work {ha!} off a hectic Christmas Day in the air-conditioning. With choc-tops. Enough said.

Will you be watching?

I traveled to Pixar Studios as a guest of Disney•Pixar. All thoughts are my own.

  1. I am so looking forward to taking my son to see this. It will be his second time at the movies (He will be 4 in January, and his first movie was Pitch Perfect 2 because he insisted on coming LOL).

  2. Took the kids yesterday to see this and all I can say is take tissues and lots of them. Myself and my 13 year old had tears rolling down our cheeks and my 5 year old sat in my lap and cuddled me while watching. It is a beautiful movie and such a great message. Loved it.
