7 memorable weekend moments {I’ll probably forget by tomorrow}

We got up early and trekked out to the new Ikea in Tempe. Basically when it comes to Sydney, I know the East and North Shore well – but anywhere else is ‘somewhere over there’. So I picked up Ma at 7:30am and readied myself for the road trip. Turns out Tempe is 10 minutes from my Ma’s house. Kinda totally early.

We beat the crowds {I hate crowds} and shopped our little hearts out. Somewhere in the middle of the store {around the bedding section} an alarm started to go off, “EMERGENCY. Evacuate the building immediately!” I assumed we’d just keep shopping. Who takes warnings seriously anymore anyway? {Kidding!} Men in red hats with WARDEN written across them and bright yellow jackets came out of nowhere and started to direct us to the store entrance and out to the car park. Unmotivated to trek back from the beginning we shopped from the end instead. We still haven’t seen the middle of the store.

I got de-moustached. My beautician has always convinced me that I never needed any upper-lip waxing, and that she’d tell me as soon as I did. Whilst getting my nails done yesterday the nail lady, Ruby, said, “I’m going to tint your eyelashes and wax your lip.” So she did.

Pretty much all of Sydney headed East to see the Sculptures By The Sea. They must all read my blog. The Sculptures are pretty much in my backyard so the streets around my house are like gridlock. As I was walking back from buying my morning paper a couple had decided to park half-way across our driveway. I politely told them, “We kinda can’t get out when you park like that.” The passenger replied, “Yeah I know” and continued to get out of the car. I stood near the car like a pathetic {yet friendly and polite} henchman. They got in the car and drove off.

We bought Lacey those kid-safe knives that those genius kids on Junior Masterchef use. She’s ace at cutting sugar snap peas {her speciality} usually. On Saturday she tried cutting cooked chicken. I discovered the knives aren’t kid-safe. Lots of blood & a bad/sad mum moment.

I made Tim Tam Tarts. They will blow your mind. Recipe to come later this week.

I wore my skinnier jeans. You know you have them in your cupboard. The ones where you know if you can fit into them you’re doing something right, and feeling pretty darn good about it. And then my favourite episode of Sex and the City came on {where Miranda fits into her skinny jeans after having her baby and loves herself sick}. Serendipity.

Did your weekend contain any memorable moments?

  1. Those sculptures by the sea are amazing! Seriously, the fact that on one you can turn on an app and see a mermaid, and then the faucet to the sea. I love them! I just wish they weren't in Australia or I'd come see them.

How long are they up? And then when they go back up are they the same ones year to year or do they change? Essentially I want to see the faucet to the sea.

  2. Yay! I love the feeling when you can fit into your skinny jeans! Good for you! I also want to go to the new Ikea but I dont know where Tempe is. Its hard enough going to the Homebush one. What did you buy from the nordic boutique?

  3. I had to have a giggle at the Sculptures by the Sea comment – I was one of the thousands of people that went yesterday – I think I saw more on your blog post about it the other day than in person : (
    Poor little Lacey : (

  4. congrats on fitting into your skinny jeans!! that's one of my favourite eps of satc too.

re the parking – gee some people are just so rude these days and don't think of how their actions will impact others do they? i'm glad you stood your ground and they moved.

can't wait for the recipe for tim tam tarts, they look very similar to a recipe i made out of delicious mag earlier this year and they were yummo!

    ~x~

  5. I want to go to Sculptures by the Sea but am still debating when. Is there a time you would recommend? I'm not a fan of crowds. I wanted my kids to see it and am almost tempted to pull them out of school to go see rather than trying the weekend.

I did Ikea as well. On the opening day. I was so nervous going in thinking it would be choc-a-bloc with people but it was such a smooth run.

Hooray for the skinny jeans. I'm still not that brave. You go girl!

  6. Well done on fitting into your skinny jeans – gotta love that feeling !!!!!

Hope Lacey is OK after the episode with kid-safe knives (have never heard of those probably because we don't watch much TV).

My memorable moment was being able to sit in the sun with my book for 45 minutes – totally undisturbed !!!

    Have a great week !

  7. Oh My! Bad/sad mum moments are officially the worst! and as for the 'skinnier jeans'……. I KNOW! Nothing makes a yummy mummy yummier to herself…. ummm – did that even make sense? Maybe my skinnier jeans are a little to skinny 🙂

  8. seriously this made me LOL. I used to live in paddington for a long time, and I got so sick of having to try and find parking every saturday!

People would just park anywhere, across driveways etc not caring about the people that actually lived there!!!

  9. Congratulations on fitting into your skinny jeans, best feeling EVAH!

I live up in Vaucluse and I couldn't face the Sculptures gridlock. I'm going on Thursday morning instead, haha 🙂

  10. lucky you going this long without a bit of lady moustache waxing! I've been getting it done for years and every year tell myself I'll get laser hair removal and never do!

I can't wait to go to the new ikea as I need some new dining chairs and barstools!

    Corrie:)

  11. YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! It was skinny jeans day!!! I LOVE SKINNY JEANS DAY!!! 😀

Also, how rad is IKEA. A day trip to IKEA is one of my favourite weekend events. I seriously squeal like an annoying 12 year old when we turn on the motorway and it comes into view.
