5 ways to banish blogger’s block

I get blogger’s block when I’m stressed or frazzled. I struggle to muster up a post idea, or wrangle a sentence from my poor, overworked brain. There are a handful of solutions that I know work on getting my creative juices flowing again, and I’m sharing them today in hope that they’ll help other bloggers in getting past the dreaded blogger’s block.

1. Shoot
Grab your camera {be it your point & shoot, your DSLR or even your phone} and start shooting. Seeing life through a viewfinder instead of your very own eyes can be inspiring, and always makes cures my writer’s block. If you still haven’t mustered up a post filled with musings, why not do a wordless post of pictures from your travels?

2. Shop
Heading to my favourite shop always has my mind ticking over. You could create a post of things you didn’t buy, or 5 trends you’d like to try. Just make sure you leave your purse at home, otherwise it might be an expensive experience!

3. Watch
Isn’t people watching the most revealing adventure? You learn a little about other people and even more about yourself. Head to the beach, your favourite cafe or even to the supermarket and take notice of people, their behaviour, quirks and differences. Write a post on lessons your learnt from observing other people.

4. Read
Put ten dollars in your hot little hand and head to the newsagent, browse the shelves for your favourite magazine or perhaps one you’ve never read before. Head home with a pile of post-it notes and mark down ideas that reading through the magazine inspires.

5. Explore
I’ve said before that reading blogs is like being Alice in Wonderland and falling down the rabbit hole. I’m always taken to faraway places and can never remember where I started or how I go to where I am. Blogs are inspiring, and you can browse from the comfort of your own home. Remember to be inspired, but not to copy {and link back to the blog that inspired the post that you put together}.

Here’s hoping you never have a bout of blogger’s block again. What are your tips for getting inspired when it comes to blogging?

  1. I think I'm too much of a newbie to suggest any blogging suggestions. I love blogging about my life – kids, pregnancy, staying at home, etc. – but often run out of ideas when life gets a bit dull. Thanks for such wonderful ideas – think I might go write a blog now!

  2. I'm definately with you on the camera one! I love to grab out my dslr, and see what magic I can capture with my crazy toddler!

I like list writing, I usually turn them into blog posts .. Because my brain is top frazzled to stick to one point!

    Great post x

  3. Hello! Great post. i think if you sit down to blog and nothing's coming then go live your life for an hour of two, read a magazine, watch a film, phone a friend, make your bed. When something captures your interest don't let it slip away! Note it down and make it blogable! Lovely blog btw.
    I'll follow you.

  4. One of the things I love most about blogging is the rabbit hole experience. I love how I can get completely lost in beautiful blogs and keep finding new blogs to read and people to “meet”.

Not sure if I've ever told you this, but your blog was the very first blog that led me down the rabbit hole two years ago after I found you through Mamamia. True story!

    Great tips xxx

  5. OK, so when I said I was going to go and write a blog NOW I'm sure you would have assumed that this would of course mean that I would log onto blogger only to get interrupted by children. As it turned out, when one boy was shipped off to kindy, and the second boy was asleep, I did get a blogging moment. Using your suggestion to look around for inspiration, I only had to look out my back door to see a lovely story to blog about. (I only wish I had a DSLR to capture it on…) Thanks for getting me started today – even if it took longer than expected!

  6. Thank you for your suggestions. I carry the camera with me everyday.

You are absolutely right. Taking pictures and seeing them later give me plenty of ideas.

It also captures moments when they are forgotten in later days.

  7. These are great! I have found reading Women’s Health magazine is always inspiring for yummy recipe ideas and healthy living tips. 🙂
