We live in a small neighbourhood, and in our little area of the street we’re quite friendly. When the weather is good the kids will meet in the street and ride bikes together. Everyone is always up for a chat. I couldn’t love it more. It feels like the neighbourhood where I grew up. Each year we’d block of our street and have a party. In our new neighbourhood we all meet for a Christmas party at the park, bring some food and have a bit of a drink.

Last year we were the new kids on the block. We were just getting to know each other well, now we’re old hats. I think I might even break out some gifts of the food kind. I’ll share a few recipes of the next few weeks. I think I’ll make these earthquake biscuits as well. They’re so good!

Ingredients

Scale

1 block of white chocolate (around 220g)
100g peanuts, roughly chopped
1 cup pink marshmallows, cut into quarters
10 red snakes, chopped (or other red candy/lolly)

Instructions

1. Break chocolate into smaller pieces and place into a microwave safe bowl. Melt by blasting it on med-high heat for 30 seconds at a time, stirring between each blast – until completely melted.
2. Once melted place all the other ingredients into the bowl. Mix until combined.
3. Line a loaf tin with baking paper, and pour mix into prepared tin. Place in fridge until set.
4. Once set cut into small rectangles or bigger chunks {depending on how you want to wrap and gift it}. Wrap in cellophane and tie with a ribbon. Give as a gift! {And sneak some for yourself!}.

  1. Sounds delish and I would love to make but this American is wondering if you could more specific about “red snacks”? Thanks!

  2. I have to say I have never given any gifts to my neighbors. Well, I have one that I adore who lives a couple of doors down but I have several neighbors. Maybe if I made these treats and gave them out I would get to know more people in my neighborhood!

  3. I was thinking of what to make for colleagues etc for Christmas – usually make gingerbread stars but a bit bored. As I am not always sure of the recipient (if they share with family etc) then what is a good alternative for peanuts? Trying to go nut free for my gifts.
